Poor performance by Olympiacos in Barcelona and heavy defeat by Barcelona (98-85) for the 15th round of the EuroLeague.
Difficult night in Barcelona for Olympiacos, who were defeated on Friday (12/12) by Xavi Pascual's Barcelona (98-85) for the 15th round of the EuroLeague.
Piraeus fell to 8-6 (5-2 at home and 3-4 away), with Giorgos Bartzokas not having McKissick-Ward and not believing what he was seeing, especially in the third quarter which turned into a nightmare for his team.
Sasha Vezenkov was the top scorer (22 points, 6/8 two-pointers, 1/4 three-pointers, 7/7 shots in 30 minutes), Tyler Dorsey followed with 19 but never troubled the home team and had incredible mistakes, Nikola Milutinov played little in the second half as Donda Hall finished phases and helped more with rebounds.
At 10-5, Barcelona (5-2 home and 5-3 away), which did not have Nicolas Laprovitola, but got a lot of points from the duo of Pender and Clyburn. The former made a splash in the first half, the latter was unstoppable in the third period and the Catalans reached three consecutive positive results.
The MVP
It was impossible to single out one of Kevin Pender (24 points, 5/8 two-pointers, 3/4 three-pointers, 5/6 shots, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, all in 24:50) – Will Clyburn (28 points, 3/5 two-pointers, 7/10 three-pointers, 1/1 shot, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals). Truly great, in every sense of the word.
The statistic that stood out
With six assists for one mistake, Olympiacos closed the first quarter, in which the duo Fournier – Milutinov had 17 of the team's 22 points. Clyburn had 16 at halftime (3/5 two-pointers, 3/4 three-pointers, 1/1 free throw), Pender took over in the second half, 12-2 points from surprise at the end of the game, 21-11 points from opponent's mistakes, 18-14 points from second chances (offensive rebounds), with the home team renewing ten more possessions than the visitors.
The match
Olympiacos opened the match with the classic five (Waukap, Dorsey, Fournier, Vezenkov, Milutinov), who saw Barcelona hot for 11-4 in the fourth minute. Fournier was the one who gave the impetus, with a series of points for 14-13, he continued to hammer the home team, before Vezenkov scored a goal-foul for 21-21 towards the end of the period.
Fournier's second foul, in the 11th minute, sent him to the bench early. The defense worked well, the offense not so much, but a three-pointer by Dorsey (29-31 in the 15th minute) and another basket of his own for 37-35 at the end of the attack, kept Olympiacos close. At halftime (42-39), however, Bartzokas had complaints, mainly about some easy mistakes and some partnerships that he wanted to see, but they did not work out.
The home team entered the second half with momentum, scoring 17 points in four minutes for a +12 (59-47) and with Olympiacos on the ropes. Bartzokas even tried a formation with Walkap – Nilikina in the same five, to see the Catalans increase the difference to 18 (67-49 at 27′) and close the third quarter at 72-56.
The Piraeus team was hoping for a small miracle at the beginning of the fourth, but an unsportsmanlike throw by Vezenkov on Paras, on a jumper at 33′, decided everything. Definitively. From then on, Olympiacos simply fought to close the gap, but they didn’t achieve that either.

Στο 8-6 έπεσαν οι Πειραιώτες (5-2 εντός και 3-4 εκτός έδρας), με τον Γιώργο Μπαρτζώκα να μην έχει τους ΜακΚίσικ – Γουόρντ και να μην πιστεύει αυτά που έβλεπε, ειδικά στο τρίτο δεκάλεπτο που εξελίχθηκε σε εφιάλτη για την ομάδα του.
Ο Σάσα Βεζένκοβ ήταν ο πρώτος σκόρερ (22 πόντοι, 6/8 δίποντα, 1/4 τρίποντα, 7/7 βολές σε 30 λεπτά), ο Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ ακολούθησε με 19 αλλά δεν προβλημάτισε ποτέ τους γηπεδούχους και είχε απίστευτα λάθη, ελάχιστα έπαιξε στο δεύτερο μέρος ο Νίκολα Μιλουτίνοβ καθώς ο Ντόντα Χολ τελείωσε φάσεις και βοήθησε περισσότερο στο ριμπάουντ.
Στο 10-5 η Μπαρτσελόνα (5-2 εντός και 5-3 εκτός έδρας), που δεν είχε τον Νίκολας Λαπροβίτολα, πήρε όμως πολύ σκορ από το δίδυμο Πάντερ – Κλάιμπερν. Ο πρώτος έκανε θραύση στο πρώτο μέρος, ο δεύτερος ήταν ασταμάτητος στην τρίτη περίοδο και οι Καταλανοί έφτασαν τα τρία σερί θετικά αποτελέσματα.

Αδύνατο να ξεχωρίσει κάποιος έναν εκ των Κέβιν Πάντερ (24 πόντοι, 5/8 δίποντα, 3/4 τρίποντα, 5/6 βολές, 5 ριμπάουντ, 3 ασίστ, 3 κλεψίματα, όλα αυτά σε 24:50) – Γουίλ Κλάιμπερν (28 πόντοι, 3/5 δίποντα, 7/10 τρίποντα, 1/1 βολή, 3 ριμπάουντ, 2 ασίστ, 3 κλεψίματα). Πραγματικά σπουδαίοι, με όλη τη σημασία της λέξης.
Το στατιστικό που ξεχώρισε
Με έξι ασίστ για ένα λάθος έκλεισε ο Ολυμπιακός το πρώτο δεκάλεπτο, στο οποίο το δίδυμο Φουρνιέ – Μιλουτίνοβ είχε 17 από τους 22 πόντους της ομάδας. Ο Κλάιμπερν είχε 16 στο ημίχρονο (3/5 δίποντα, 3/4 τρίποντα, 1/1 βολή), ο Πάντερ πήρε τη σκυτάλη στο δεύτερο μέρος, 12-2 οι πόντοι στον αιφνιδιασμό στο τέλος του αγώνα, 21-11 οι πόντοι από τα λάθη του αντιπάλου, 18-14 οι πόντοι από δεύτερες ευκαιρίες (επιθετικά ριμπάουντ), με τους γηπεδούχους να ανανεώνουν δέκα περισσότερες κατοχές από τους φιλοξενούμενους.
Ο αγώνας
Με την κλασική πεντάδα άνοιξε το ματς ο Ολυμπιακός (Γουόκαπ, Ντόρσεϊ, Φουρνιέ, Βεζένκοβ, Μιλουτίνοβ), που είδε τη Μπαρτσελόνα καυτή για το 11-4 στο τέταρτο λεπτό. Ο Φουρνιέ ήταν αυτός που έδωσε ώθηση, με σερί πόντους για το 14-13, συνέχισε να σφυροκοπά τους γηπεδούχους, πριν ο Βεζένκοβ βάλει γκολ-φάουλ για το 21-21 προς τα τέλη της περιόδου.
Το δεύτερο φάουλ του Φουρνιέ, στο 11′, τον έστειλε στον πάγκο νωρίς. Η άμυνα λειτουργούσε καλά, η επίθεση όχι τόσο, όμως ένα τρίποντο του Ντόρσεϊ (29-31 στο 15′) και ένα ακόμη δικό του καλάθι για το 37-35 σε τέλος επίθεσης, κράτησαν τον Ολυμπιακό κοντά. Στο ημίχρονο (42-39), πάντως, ο Μπαρτζώκας είχε παράπονα, κυρίως για κάποια εύκολα λάθη και για μερικές συνεργασίες που ήθελε να δει, αλλά δεν βγήκαν.
Οι γηπεδούχοι μπήκαν στο δεύτερο μέρος με ορμή, έβαλαν 17 πόντους σε τέσσερα λεπτά για το +12 (59-47) και μαζί τον Ολυμπιακό στα σχοινιά. Ο Μπαρτζώκας δοκίμασε μέχρι και σχήμα με Γουόκαπ – Νιλικίνα στην ίδια πεντάδα, για να δει τους Καταλανούς να εκτοξεύουν τη διαφορά στους 18 (67-49 στο 27′) και να κλείνουν το τρίτο δεκάλεπτο στο 72-56.
Οι Πειραιώτες ήλπιζαν σε ένα μικρό θαύμα στις αρχές της τέταρτης, όμως ένα αντιαθλητικό του Βεζένκοβ στον Πάρα, σε τζάμπολ στο 33′, τα έκρινε όλα. Οριστικά. Από εκεί και πέρα ο Ολυμπιακός πάλεψε απλώς για να μαζέψει τη διαφορά, αλλά δεν το πέτυχε ούτε αυτό.
