The Dutchman in Abu Dhabi missed the opportunity to achieve something that only a 7-time Formula 1 world champion has managed.
The Formula 1 title win by Lando Norris in Abu Dhabi put an end to an era of dominance. Max Verstappen, after four consecutive championships, failed to reach the legendary record of Michael Schumacher, the only driver with five consecutive titles in the history of the sport (2000-2004).

Why the opportunity was missed
Despite the fact that he started the 2025 season as a clear favorite, Verstappen did not have the same racing safety margin of previous years. Red Bull Racing showed signs of internal instability and technical stagnation, while McLaren took the decisive step forward. With an extremely fast car and a winning mentality, Lando Norris took advantage of every missed opportunity the Dutchman missed.
After the summer break, Red Bull introduced a series of upgrades that made the RB21 equal in performance to the MCL39. The result? Ten consecutive podiums and eight victories for Verstappen, who reached the source but did not drink water for just 2 points.

Γιατί χάθηκε η ευκαιρία
Παρά το γεγονός ότι ξεκίνησε τη σεζόν του 2025 ως καθαρό φαβορί, ο Φερστάπεν δεν είχε το ίδιο αγωνιστικό περιθώριο ασφαλείας των προηγούμενων χρόνων. Η Red Bull Racing παρουσίασε σημάδια εσωτερικής αστάθειας αλλά και τεχνικής στασιμότητας, ενώ η McLaren έκανε το αποφασιστικό βήμα μπροστά. Με ένα εξαιρετικά γρήγορο μονοθέσιο και με την ψυχολογία νικητή, ο Λάντο Νόρις εκμεταλλεύτηκε κάθε χαμένη ευκαιρία του Ολλανδού.
Μετά τη θερινή διακοπή η Red Bull παρουσίασε μια σειρά από αναβαθμίσεις που έκαναν την RB21 ισάξια σε απόδοση με την MCL39. Το αποτέλεσμα; Δέκα συνεχόμενα βάθρα και οκτώ νίκες για τον Φερστάπεν, ο οποίος έφτασε στην πηγή αλλά δεν ήπιε νερό για μόλις 2 βαθμούς.
Ως αποτέλεσμα, έμεινε στους τέσσερις συνεχόμενους τίτλους (2021-2024) κι έτσι ο Μίκαελ Σουμάχερ είναι ο μοναδικός στην ιστορία με πέντε σερί πρωταθλήματα.

Τι σημαίνει για την ιστορία
Το γεγονός ότι ο Φερστάπεν δεν έφτασε τον Σουμάχερ δεν μικραίνει το μέγεθος της παρακαταθήκης του. Αντιθέτως, αναδεικνύει πόσο σπάνιο και δύσκολο είναι το ρεκόρ του Γερμανού. Πέντε συνεχόμενα πρωταθλήματα δεν αποτελούν απλώς έναν αριθμό, αλλά μια εποχή απόλυτης κυριαρχίας που παραμένει μέχρι σήμερα ανεπανάληπτη.
