Panathinaikos - Volos 2-1

After months, Panathinaikos appeared with the main players in the forward position (Dessers) and goalkeeper (Laffon) and defeated Volos 2-1, taking a deep breath in terms of points.

Panathinaikos welcomed Volos to the Avenue, in a match where they had no room for new points losses. The "Clover" had Cyril Dessers in high spirits, who returned to the starting lineup and with a goal and a penalty win led his team to a victory of great importance - despite a problematic performance in the second half -, before departing for Nigeria in view of the African Cup of Nations.

The "greens" are now level with Thessaloniki (22 points for each team), having played less games, while they are -3 behind fourth-placed Levadiakos. Of course, the trio is still far away, since PAOK has 32 points, AEK 34 and Olympiacos 35, all with a game more than Rafa Benitez's total.

The coaches' initial choices

Rafa Benitez lined up the "Clover" with his favorite 4-2-3-1, with Lafon under the posts, Calabria on the left, Kotsiras on the right and Touba and Palmer-Brown as stoppers. Siopis and Tsirivelia were the midfield duo, with the trio of Zarouri, Bacaceta and Tete behind Deschers.

Juan Ferrando, on the other hand, chose Siabanis under the posts, with Fortuna and Myga on the defensive ends and Triantafyllou and Hermanson as stoppers. Koba and Martinez were the midfielders, with Lambrou, Juanpi and Joka behind the promoted Macni.

One... Dessers Show in the first half

The game started in the most ideal way for the home team, who were fortunate enough to open the scoring on their first real opportunity. Chirivella pressed high in the 5th minute and led the Thessalians to a mistake, with Dessers becoming the recipient of the ball and with a perfect shot from outside the area marking Siabanis' net, "writing" 1-0 and scoring his third goal in as many appearances as a starter with the "Clover".

Volos' first visit to Lafon's goal came in the 10th minute, with Hermansson trying a shot from the left inside the area after a corner kick, but the ball was blocked. The home team, however, reacted, "warned" in the 19th minute with Deschers failing to execute from Zaruri's cross, and in the next minute they won a penalty, after a header from the captain and a smart move by the Nigerian forward in the area. Bakasetas took the shot and made no mistake, giving his team a significant early lead.

Deschers continued to make fun of the opposing defense and in the 28th minute he teamed up with Bakasetas again, but the shot he attempted with his right foot from a wide position in the area went wide. In the next minute, the Nigerian forward went into a one-on-one position and shot just wide, in a phase where the referee raised his flag and indicated that he was in an offside position. The experienced forward also threatened in the 31st minute with a header, which, however, went over the posts of Siabanis.

In the 35th minute, Lafon was found on the ground after being marked by Macni and the medical staff of “Trifillio” had to enter the field, with the Ivorian, however, continuing the match normally. The pressure of “Trifillio” continued, with Bakaseta’s shot in the 38th minute being blocked and going for a corner, and the Volos defense clearing it in the 40th minute before the ball crossed the line after Calabria’s turn from the left.

And while Panathinaikos had complete control and the third goal seemed just a matter of time, Volos managed to reduce the deficit in the second half, with Koba's shot from the edge of the area that went against Siopis, changed course a little and ended up in Lafon's net. Immediately after that, the match caught fire... with Macnee constantly provoking with his behavior and making Palmer-Brown and Lafon furious. Then Mygas entered the scene, with Fotias eventually issuing cards to the three aforementioned players, except for the Volos captain.

And after managing to get back into the match from... nowhere, Volos won a penalty in the 48th minute after an incomprehensible action by Kotsiras and a push on Lambrou, with Lafon however falling to the right corner and stopping the intervention of the Greek ace! The match had acquired a very fast pace, with both teams trying to score in transition, without much success.

In the 62nd minute, the tone rose again, with Koba leading the way this time, with this momentum however favoring Volos, who had a better picture in the replay and took the match to the power, trying to "destroy" Panathinaikos' game. The guests even came close to equalizing in the 69th minute, but Pinci's shot from outside the area went just wide.

Ferranto had refreshed his team by gradually switching to the game of Tasioura, Pinci, Bouzouki and Asechnoun, with Volos having "trapped" Panathinaikos but unable to create the big opportunity. Benitez, for his part, sent Padovic, Djurisic and Jedvai onto the field, with the match entering the last quarter.

In the 78th minute, the Serbian midfielder came close to making it 3-1, but the slicing shot he attempted from the left inside the area went wide. A minute later, Gentvay (who moved to the right wing of the defense) went on the counterattack and distributed to Bakaseta, with the shot of the "green" captain with the right counter and going for a corner. The "green" however had brought the game back to their own standards, seeming to control the situation in the final stretch.

In the last 10 minutes of the regular period and in the 5 minutes of the extra time nothing remarkable happened, with the "Clover" holding on to the three precious points and the return to victories, after 3 consecutive unsuccessful results in Greece (AEK, AEL) and Europe (Viktoria Plzen).

Μετά από μήνες ο Παναθηναϊκός εμφανίστηκε με τους βασικούς παίκτες σε θέση φορ (Ντέσερς) και τερματοφύλακα (Λαφόν) και νίκησε 2-1 τον Βόλο παίρνοντας βαθιά βαθμολογική ανάσα.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός υποδέχθηκε τον Βόλο στην Λεωφόρο, σε ένα ματς όπου δεν είχε το παραμικρό περιθώριο για νέες βαθμολογικές απώλειες. Το «Τριφύλλι» είχε σε μεγάλα κέφια τον Σίριλ Ντέσερς, ο οποίος επέστρεψε στην ενδεκάδα και με γκολ και κερδισμένο πέναλτι οδήγησε την ομάδα του σε μια νίκη μεγάλης σημασίας -παρά την προβληματική εμφάνιση στο δεύτερο ημίχρονο-, πριν αναχωρήσει για την Νιγηρία ενόψει του Κόπα Άφρικα.

Πλέον οι «πράσινοι» ισοβαθμούν με τους Θεσσαλούς (22 βαθμοί για κάθε ομάδα), έχοντας ματς λιγότερο, ενώ βρίσκονται στο -3 από τον τέταρτο Λεβαδειακό. Φυσικά η τριάδα είναι ακόμα μακριά, αφού ο ΠΑΟΚ έχει 32 βαθμούς, η ΑΕΚ 34 και ο Ολυμπιακός 35, όλοι με παιχνίδι παραπάνω από το σύνολο του Ράφα Μπενίτεθ.

Οι αρχικές επιλογές των προπονητών

Ο Ράφα Μπενίτεθ παρέταξε το «Τριφύλλι» με το αγαπημένο του 4-2-3-1, έχοντας τον Λαφόν κάτω από τα δοκάρια, τον Καλάμπρια αριστερά, τον Κώτσιρα δεξιά και τους Τουμπά και Πάλμερ-Μπράουν στα στόπερ. Σιώπης και Τσιριβέγια ήταν το δίδυμο των χαφ, με την τριπλέτα των Ζαρουρί, Μπακασέτα και Τετέ πίσω από τον Ντέσερς.

Ο Χουάν Φεράντο από την άλλη επέλεξε τον Σιαμπάνη κάτω από τα δοκάρια, με τους Φορτούνα και Μύγα στα άκρα της άμυνας και τους Τριαντάφυλλου και Χέρμανσον στα στόπερ. Κομπά και Μαρτίνες ήταν τα χάφ, με τους Λάμπρου, Χουάνπι και Τζόκα πίσω από τον προωθημένο Μακνί.

One... Dessers Show το πρώτο ημίχρονο

Το παιχνίδι ξεκίνησε με τον πλέον ιδανικό τρόπο για τους γηπεδούχους, οι οποίοι ευτύχησαν να ανοίξουν το σκορ στην πρώτη τους ουσιαστική ευκαιρία. Ο Τσιριβέγια πίεσε ψηλά στο 5ο λεπτό και οδήγησε τους Θεσσαλούς σε λάθος, με τον Ντέσερς να γίνεται ο αποδέκτης της μπάλας και με άψογο σουτ εκτός περιοχής να σημαδεύει τα δίχτυα του Σιαμπάνη, «γράφοντας» το 1-0 και πετυχαίνοντας το τρίτο του γκολ σε ισάριθμες συμμετοχές ως βασικός με το «Τριφύλλι».

Η πρώτη επίσκεψη του Βόλου στα καρέ του Λαφόν ήρθε στο 10’, με τον Χέρμανσον να δοκιμάζει ένα σουτ από αριστερά μέσα στην περιοχή μετά από εκτέλεση κόρνερ, αλλά την μπάλα να κοντράρει. Οι γηπεδούχοι ωστόσο αντέδρασαν, «προειδοποίησαν» στο 19’ με τον Ντέσερς να μην καταφέρνει να εκτελέσει από την σέντρα του Ζαρουρί και στο επόμενο λεπτό κέρδισαν πέναλτι, μετά από κάθετη του αρχηγού και έξυπνη κίνηση του Νιγηριανού φορ στην περιοχή. Ο Μπακασέτας ανέλαβε την εκτέλεση και δεν λάθεψε, δίνοντας σημαντικότατο προβάδισμα νίκης στην ομάδα του από πολύ νωρίς.

Ο Ντέσερς συνέχισε να κάνει… πλάκα στην αντίπαλη άμυνα και στο 28’ συνεργάστηκε ξανά με τον Μπακασέτα, όμως το σουτ που επιχείρησε με το δεξί από πλάγια θέση στην περιοχή έφυγε άουτ. Στο επόμενο λεπτό ο Νιγηριανός φορ έφυγε σε θέση τετ-α-τετ και σούταρε μόλις άουτ, σε μια φάση όπου ο επόπτης σήκωσε το σημαιάκι του και τον υπέδειξε σε θέση οφσάιντ. Ο έμπειρος φορ απείλησε και στο 31’ με κεφαλιά, η οποία όμως πέρασε πάνω από τα δοκάρια του Σιαμπάνη.

Στο 35’ ο Λαφόν βρέθηκε στο έδαφος μετά από μαρκάρισμα του Μακνί και χρειάστηκε να μπει στο γήπεδο το ιατρικό επιτελείο του «Τριφυλλιού», με τον Ιβοριανό πάντως να συνεχίζει κανονικά το ματς. Η πίεση του «Τριφυλλιού» συνεχίστηκε, με το σουτ του Μπακασέτα στο 38’ να κοντράρει και να φεύγει κόρνερ, και την άμυνα του Βόλου να απομακρύνει στο 40’ πριν η μπάλα περάσει την γραμμή μετά το γύρισμα του Καλάμπρια από αριστερά.

Μπήκε στο ματς από το πουθενά ο Βόλος

Κι ενώ ο Παναθηναϊκός είχε τον απόλυτο έλεγχο και το τρίτο γκολ έμοιαζε απλώς θέμα χρόνου, ο Βόλος κατάφερε να μειώσει στις καθυστερήσεις του ημιχρόνου, με το σουτ του Κόμπα από τα όρια της περιοχής που κόντραρε στον Σιώπη, άλλαξε λίγο πορεία και κατέληξε στα δίχτυα του Λαφόν. Αμέσως μετά το ματς πήρε... φωτιά, με τον Μακνί να προκαλεί διαρκώς με την συμπεριφορά του και να κάνει έξαλλους τους Πάλμερ-Μπράουν και Λαφόν. Στην συνέχεια μπήκε στο σκηνικό και ο Μύγας, με τον Φωτιά να βγάζει τελικά κάρτες στους τρεις προαναφερθέντες, πλην του αρχηγού του Βόλου. 

«Ήρωας» για τον Παναθηναϊκό ο Λαφόν

Και αφού κατάφερε από το… πουθενά να μπει ξανά στο ματς, ο Βόλος κέρδισε πέναλτι στο 48’ μετά από ακατανόητη ενέργεια του Κώτσιρα και πάτημα στον Λάμπρου, με τον Λαφόν ωστόσο να πέφτει στην σωστή γωνία και να σταματάει την επέμβαση του Έλληνα άσου! Το ματς είχε αποκτήσει πολύ γρήγορο ρυθμό, με τις δύο ομάδες να προσπαθούν να χτυπήσουν στο τρανζίσιον, δίχως ιδιαίτερη επιτυχία.

Στο 62' ανέβηκαν ξανά οι τόνοι, με πρωταγωνιστή τον Κόμπα αυτή την φορά, με το μομέντουμ αυτό πάντως να ευνοεί τον Βόλο, ο οποίος είχε καλύτερη εικόνα στην επανάληψη και πήγε το ματς στην δύναμη, προσπαθώντας να «καταστρέψει» το παιχνίδι του Παναθηναϊκού. Οι φιλοξενούμενοι μάλιστα πλησίασαν στην ισοφάριση στο 69', όμως το σουτ του Πίντσι εκτός περιοχής πέρασε λίγο άουτ.

Ο Φεράντο είχε φρεσκάρει την ομάδα του περνώντας σταδιακά στο παιχνίδι τους Τασιούρα, Πίντσι, Μπουζούκη και Ασεχνούν, με τον Βόλο να έχει «εγκλωβίσει» τον Παναθηναϊκό αλλά μην μπορεί να φτιάξει την μεγάλη ευκαιρία. Ο Μπενίτεθ από την πλευρά του έριξε στον αγωνιστικό χώρο Πάντοβιτς, Τζούρισιτς και Γεντβάι, με την αναμέτρηση να μπαίνει στο τελευταίο τέταρτο.

Ηρέμησε και το διαχειρίστηκε ο Παναθηναϊκός

Στο 78' μάλιστα ο Σέρβος μεσοεπιθετικός πλησίασε στο 3-1, αλλά το φαλτσαριστό σουτ που επιχείρησε από αριστερά μέσα στην περιοχή έφυγε άουτ. Ένα λεπτό μετά ο Γεντβάι (που πέρασε στο δεξί άκρο της άμυνας) έφυγε στην αντεπίθεση και μοίρασε στον Μπακασέτα, με το σουτ του «πράσινου» αρχηγού με το δεξί να κοντράρει και να φεύγει κόρνερ. Οι «πράσινοι» πάντως είχαν φέρει ξανά στα μέτρα τους το παιχνίδι, μοιάζοντας να ελέγχουν την κατάσταση στην τελική ευθεία.

Στο τελευταίο 10λεπτο της κανονικής διάρκειας αλλά και στα 5 λεπτά του έξτρα χρόνου δεν έγινε κάτι αξιοσημείωτο, με το «Τριφύλλι» να κρατάει τους τρεις πολύτιμους βαθμούς και την επιστροφή στις νίκες, μετά από 3 σερί ανεπιτυχή αποτελέσματα σε Ελλάδα (ΑΕΚ, ΑΕΛ) και Ευρώπη (Βικτόρια Πλζεν).
