Alcaraz passes the new test (vid)
Jan-Lennard Struff gave Carlos Alcaraz a lot of trouble, but the young Spaniard found his way to the round of 16 at Wimbledon.
The No.2 tennis player overcame the obstacle of the 35-year-old German (No.125) with 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and continues his path to his third consecutive title in London! He now has 17 consecutive victories at the All England Club, while also running a 21-0 streak on the tour, having won trophies in Rome, Roland Garros and Queen's.
Now, however, he will find a fairly high obstacle in front of him, as he will face Andrei Rublev, No.14 in the world.
Carlitos easily took the first set and led with a break in the second (2-1), but Struff responded immediately (2-2) and with another break in the eighth game, brought the match to a draw.
Alcaraz quickly took the lead in the third set (2-0) and this break was enough to regain the lead in the match, however he had to extinguish a chance from his opponent (at 2-3) in the very close fourth.
Finally, after a marathon ninth game, where Struff had chances to go ahead 5-4, Carlos achieved the long-awaited break and then served successfully for the victory.

O Γιαν Λέναρντ Στρουφ ταλαιπώρησε αρκετά τον Κάρλος Αλκαράθ, όμως ο νεαρός Ισπανός βρήκε τον δρόμο προς τη φάση των «16» του Wimbledon.
O No.2 τενίστας ξεπέρασε το εμπόδιο του 35χρονου Γερμανού (Νο.125) με 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 και συνεχίζει την πορεία προς τον τρίτο διαδοχικό τίτλο του στο Λονδίνο! Έχει τώρα 17 συνεχόμενες νίκες στο All England Club, ενώ τρέχει και ένα σερί 21-0 στο tour, έχοντας κατακτήσει τα τρόπαια σε Ρώμη, Roland Garros και Queen's.
Τώρα, πάντως, θα βρει μπροστά του ένα αρκετά υψηλό εμπόδιο, καθώς θα τεθεί αντιμέτωπος με τον Αντρέι Ρούμπλεφ, Νο.14 στον κόσμο.
Ο Καρλίτος πήρε εύκολα το πρώτο σετ και προηγήθηκε με μπρέικ στο δεύτερο (2-1), αλλά ο Στρουφ απάντησε άμεσα (2-2) και με ένα ακόμα μπρέικ στο όγδοο γκέιμ, έφερε το ματς στα ίσα.
Ο Αλκαράθ πήρε γρήγορα κεφάλι στο τρίτο σετ (2-0) και το μπρέικ αυτό ήταν αρκετό για να ξαναπάρει το προβάδισμα στον αγώνα, ωστόσο χρειάστηκε να σβήσει μια ευκαιρία του αντιπάλου του (στο 2-3) στο πολύ κλειστό τέταρτο.
Τελικά, μετά από ένα μαραθώνιο ένατο γκέιμ, όπου ο Στρουφ είχε ευκαιρίες να περάσει μπροστά με 5-4, ο Κάρλος πέτυχε το πολυπόθητο μπρέικ και σέρβιρε στη συνέχεια με επιτυχία για τη νίκη.
