Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη ξεκίνησε με το δεξί στη Ρώμη, καθώς επικράτησε 2-1 της Κλόε Πακέ με ανατροπή. Η μάχη τους διήρκησε για 2 ώρες και 23 λεπτά στη Super Tennis Arena του Foto Italico.

Στο πρώτο σετ η Γαλλίδα (Νο. 133 της παγκόσμιας κατάταξης) επικράτησε 4-6, με την Ελλήνιδα τενίστρια να μην μπαίνει καλά στο ματς. Ενδεικτικό είναι ότι η Σάκκαρη έφτασε να χάνει 5-1 στο πρώτο σετ. Πάλεψε για την ανατροπή κατακτώντας τρία σερί game (4-5), ωστόσο στο τέλος έχασε με 6-4.

Ωστόσο στα δύο σετ που ακολούθησαν η Σάκκαρη ανέβασε κατακόρυφα στροφές και το καθάρισε με 6-3 και 6-2 αντίστοιχα. Επόμενη αντίπαλος θα είναι η νικήτρια του ζευγαριού, Μάγια Τσουαλίνσκα – Γιούλια Σταροντούμπτσεβα.
