Stefanos Tsitsipas initially looked to dominate, then found himself at a disadvantage, but defeated Francisco Cerundolo 2-1 in sets to advance to the round of 16 at the 500-man tournament in Basel.

Stefanos Tsitsipas made his life difficult against Francisco Cerundolo before eventually prevailing 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-6(4) after a two-hour and 33-minute duel to advance to the second round of the 500 tournament in Basel.

There and on the way to the quarter-finals, the Greek player will face Botik van de Jadsup on Thursday (24/6). The Dutchman in his own game with the score in his favor 3-6, 6-4, 4-0, saw Alexander Bublik quit.

Tsitsipas led 6-3 and 4-2, but Cerundolo turned the game around, took it to the 3rd set, there with a break the Argentine led 6-5 and had the chance to end the game. However, Tsitsipas answered with his own break, and by dominating the tie break, secured the qualification.

Explosive start and 1-0

Tsitsipas started the match impressively, having substance in his game, in eight minutes he took the first three games, achieving a break at the first opportunity for 2-0 and having won the first 12 points out of 15 in the game.

The 26-year-old Greek player had a double break point in the 4th game (15-40), but Serundolo avoided it with four points in a row, for 3-1.

Tsitsipas answered with the second consecutive love game for 4-1 and then reached 5-2, having in the four service games individual 12-3 points.

Serundolo reduced to 5-3, but Tsitsipas with the 3rd love game won the set 6-3, in 30 minutes.

Starting with a break, he threw away the chances and 1-1

The three effortless errors from Serundolo gave Tsitsipas a triple break point, he didn't miss the opportunity for 1-0 and with the 4th love game in the match he quickly reached 2-0.

Tsitsipas had three chances to break, but failed to make it 3-0, to take a huge lead, giving hope to his opponent. Then he took the psychologically crucial 4th game, for 3-1 and having the solutions after 30-30 in the 6th game, he reached 4-2.

The Argentinian was looking for the first break to stay in the match, he found two in the 8th game and after the effortless mistakes from Tsitsipas he reached his goal (4-4), to overtake with a love game (5-4).

Serundolo continued to put pressure on Tsitsipas, at 6-5, but the set went to a tie break. Tsitsipas led 2-0 and 3-1, but Serundolo with six points in a row took the process and the set 7-6(3).

He had the last word and the qualification

Tsitsipas started the 3rd set with a love game and finding a rhythm on the serve again, he made it 2-1. Serundolo with three aces in a row tied the game at 2-2, with Tsitsipas closing the 5th game with an ace (3-2) and the Argentine responding with a love game (3-3).

In the 7th game, Serundolo found himself with a double break point (15-40) and with an advantage, but Tsitsipas had the solutions and got out of the difficult position (4-3).

Serundolo found a new break point in the 9th game, but again Tsitsipas showed character for 5-4. The Argentinian, in Tsitsipas' third consecutive service game, found a break point again, this time he succeeded, passing 6-5.

But Tsitsipas had a reaction, he found his own break point at 30-40 and the double fault from Serundolo brought 6-6 and a new tie break. Serundolo held the serve and led 4-2, but Tsitsipas won the next five points to take the set 7-6(4) and advance.

Ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς αρχικά έδειχνε να κυριαρχεί, μετά βρέθηκε σε μειονεκτική θέση, όμως νίκησε τον Φρανσίσκο Σερούντολο με 2-1 σετ και προκρίθηκε στη φάση των «16» στο 500άρι τουρνουά στη Βασιλεία.

Ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς έκανε τη ζωή του δύσκολη απέναντι στον Φρανσίσκο Σερούντολο μέχρι τελικά να επικρατήσει με 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-6(4), έπειτα από μονομαχία δύο ωρών και 33 λεπτών για να περάσει στον 2ο γύρο στο 500άρι τουρνουά στη Βασιλεία.

Εκεί και στον δρόμο για προημιτελικά ο Ελληνας παίκτης την Πέμπτη (24/6) θα αντιμετωπίσει τον Μπότικ φαν ντε Ζάντσουπ. Ο Ολλανδός στο δικό του παιχνίδι με το σκορ να είναι στο υπέρ του 3-6, 6-4, 4-0, είδε τον Αλεξάντερ Μπούμπλικ να εγκαταλείπει.

Ο Τσιτσιπάς προηγήθηκε με 6-3 και 4-2, όμως ο Σερούντολο γύρισε το παιχνίδι, το οδήγησε στο 3ο σετ, εκεί με break ο Αργεντινός προηγήθηκε με 6-5 και είχε την ευκαιρία να τελειώσει το παιχνίδι. Ομως ο Τσιτσιπάς απάντησε με δικό του break, και κυριαρχώντας στο tie break, εξασφάλισε την πρόκριση.

Εκρηκτικό ξεκίνημα και 1-0

Ο Τσιτσιπάς άρχισε εντυπωσιακά τον αγώνα, έχοντας ουσία στο παιχνίδι του σε οκτώ λεπτά πήρε τα τρία πρώτα game, πετυχαίνοντας break στην πρώτη ευκαιρία για το 2-0 κι έχοντας κατακτήσει τους πρώτους 12 πόντους από τους 15 στο παιχνίδι.

Ο Σερούντολο μείωσε σε 5-3, όμως ο Τσιτσιπάς με το 3o love game κατέκτησε το σετ με 6-3, σε 30 λεπτά.

Ξεκίνημα με break, πέταξε τις ευκαιρίες και 1-1

Τα τρία αβίαστα λάθη από τον Σερούντολο, έδωσαν τριπλό break point στον Τσιτσιπά, δεν άφησε την ευκαιρία για το 1-0 και με το 4ο love game στον αγώνα έφθασε γρήγορα στο 2-0.

Ο Τσιτσιπάς είχε τρεις ευκαιρίες για break, αλλά δεν πέτυχε το 3-0, για να πάρει τεράστιο προβάδισμα, δίνοντας ελπίδα στον αντίπαλό του. Ακολούθως πήρε το κρίσιμο ψυχολογικά 4ο game, για το 3-1 και έχοντας τις λύσεις μετά το 30-30 στο 6ο game, έφθασε στο 4-2.

Ο Αργεντινός έψαχνε το πρώτο break για να διατηρηθεί στον αγώνα, βρήκε δύο στο 8o game και μετά τα αβίαστα λάθη από τον Τσιτσιπά έφθασε στον στόχο του (4-4), για να προσπεράσει με love game (5-4).

Ο Σερούντολο συνέχισε να βάζει πίεση στον Τσιτσιπά, με το 6-5, όμως το σετ οδηγήθηκε στο tie break. Ο Τσιτσιπάς προηγήθηκε 2-0 και 3-1, αλλά ο Σερούντολο με έξι στη σειρά πόντους πήρε τη διαδικασία και το σετ με 7-6(3).

Είχε την τελευταία λέξη και την πρόκριση

Ο Τσιτσιπάς άρχισε με love game το 3ο σετ και βρίσκοντας ξανά ρυθμό στο σερβίς, έκανε το 2-1. Ο Σερούντολο με τρεις στη σειρά άσους, ισοφάρισε σε 2-2, με τον Τσιτσιπά να κλείνει με άσο το 5o game (3-2) και τον Αργεντινό να απαντά με love game (3-3).

Ο Σερούντολο στο 7ο game, βρέθηκε με διπλό break point (15-40) και με αβαντάζ, όμως o Tσιτσιπάς είχε τις λύσεις και βγήκε από τη δύσκολη θέση (4-3).

Ο Σερούντολο βρήκε νέο break point στο 9ο game, όμως και πάλι ο Τσιτσιπάς έδειξε χαρακτήρα για το 5-4. Ο Αργεντινός σε τρίτο διαδοχικό service game του Τσιτσιπά, βρήκε ξανά break point, αυτή τη φορά το πέτυχε, προσπερνώντας με 6-5.

Ομως ο Τσιτσιπάς είχε αντίδραση, βρήκε το δικό του break point στο 30-40 και το διπλό λάθος από τον Σερούντολο, έφερε το 6-6 και νέο tie break. Ο Σερούντολο έχοντας το σερβίς προηγήθηκε 4-2, όμως ο Τσιτσιπάς πήρε τους πέντε επόμενους πόντους, για να πάρει το σετ με 7-6(4) και την πρόκριση.
