In the game, Maria had one more winner (24-23), as well as 30 effortlessly against Wang's 41.

For the first time in her career, she plays in 4 consecutive quarterfinals, while she counts 9 victories in the last 10 games.

With a lot of stress and... five set points, Sakkari 1-0

At the start of the match, Sakkari had to fend off a break point against Wang, who entered with a desire to press, attempting dynamic returns on Maria's serve.

Wang held her serve and leveled at 1-1 and from 40-15 down she found herself with two opportunities in her hands to break Sakkari. The Greek tennis player, however, was patient in the following rallies, led her opponent into mistakes and took the lead in the score (2-1).

Wang with an easy game made it 2-2, but Sakkari, for the first time in the match, easily held her serve, for 3-2. Nothing changed in the next two games, with Maria in her favor 4-3, finding a break point, which Wang emphatically extinguished with a winner.

On the second chance, however, she succeeded, after forcing her opponent to slice from a difficult position and make the mistake. Sakkari went to serve to close the set and had two chances (40-15), but that's where everything went wrong. At 40-30, she had the entire diagonal open, but she missed an easy hit and two more mistakes followed that brought irritation and at the same time the unexpected break for the Chinese woman that reduced it to 5-4.

On the Chinese serve, Maria found two more set points (15-40). At 30-40 she made another mistake she should have avoided as she stepped up to the net and pointed at it while Wang was effectively out of phase. Finally she found a 5th chance and Wang made the unforced error for Maria to close the set at 6-4 after 57 minutes.

Lack of concentration, nerves and the match in the third set

Sakkari started serving first and led 30-0, but Wang took four in a row and broke with... good morning.

Maria had two chances to get the break back, but a miss and a terrible serve from Wang denied her the chance. The third game was quite soul-destroying and lasted almost 10 minutes. Maria squandered an advantage, found herself with a break point behind at one point, but avoided a potential 0-3 and with two excellent first serves and a winner, she reduced to 2-1.

In the next game, she wasted several opportunities at 40-40 to find herself in break point, either with missed returns, or with a misplaced volley and went to serve with 1-3 on her back. Her backhand didn't work and Wang seized the opportunity to make it 4-1, going to serve. The Chinese made it 5-1, despite Sakkari's love game, she closed the set in the same way.

Sakkari cleaned up and left for the quarterfinals

In the third set, both held their serve in the first change, with Maria, however, in her favor 1-0, losing two break opportunities on her opponent's serve. However, she had a 2-1 lead and on Wang's serve she found three opportunities to break!

She lost the first two and in the third the Chinese made an effortless error to make it 3-1 for Sakkari, who then took the serve and reached 4-1 with a love game. Wang dropped to 4-2, but with big first serves Sakkari made it 5-2.

On the Chinese serve she reached double match point, with Wang barely finding the line on one of the two and staying in the game. It was reduced to 5-3, with Sakkari losing two more match points on her serve and Wang suddenly finding herself with a break point! The her serve, however, got her out of the deadlock and sent her to the "8" of the competition.

Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη επικράτησε με 2-1 σετ της μαχητικής Γουάνγκ (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) και αύριο παίζει στον προημιτελικό με την Κόκο Γκοφ, σε ματς που πρέπει να κερδίσει για να μείνει ζωντανή στο κυνήγι του WTA Finals.

Εστω και με αρκετό άγχος, η Μαρία Σάκκαρη πήρε το εισιτήριο για τα προημιτελικά στο Πεκίνο.

Η Ελληνίδα τενίστρια επικράτησε με 2-1 της εξαιρετικής Ζίνιου Γουάνγκ από τη Κίνα (6-4, 2-6, 6-3 σε 2 ώρες και 31 λεπτά) και αύριο (6/10) πάει να παίξει στα προημιτελικά με την Κόκο Γκοφ, σε ένα παιχνίδι με τον χαρακτήρα «τελικού» για την Μαρία, αφού με πρόκριση στα ημιτελικά θα έχει μπει για τα καλά στο κόλπο για την πρόκριση στο WTA Finals, ενώ με ήττα, θα χρειαστεί ένα μεγάλο θαύμα για να περάσει μέσω του επόμενου και τελευταίου τουρνουά στη σεζόν, στην πόλη Ζενγκζού.

Σήμερα το παιχνίδι είχε δύο πρόσωπα για την Σάκκαρη. Ενα που έδειξε την εμπιστοσύνη που έχει στα χτυπήματά της και ένα που έχασε εντελώς την αυτοσυγκέντρωσή της, με αποτέλεσμα να μπει σε περιπέτειες. Τελικά μέσα από το τρίτο σετ, έκλεισε θέση αύριο στα προημιτελικά. Αυτός θα είναι ο 4ος συνεχόμενος προημιτελικός για την Σάκκαρη, μετά τον οδυνηρό αποκλεισμό στο US Open.

Στο παιχνίδι η Μαρία είχε έναν winner παραπάνω (24-23), καθώς και 30 αβίαστα έναντι 41 της Γουάνγκ.

Για πρώτη φορά στην καριέρα της παίζει 4 σερί προημιτελικούς, ενώ μετρά 9 νίκες στα τελευταία 10 παιχνίδια.

Με πολύ άγχος και... πέντε set points το 1-0 η Σάκκαρη

Στο ξεκίνημα του ματς, η Σάκκαρη χρειάστηκε να σβήσει break point απέναντι στην Γουάνγκ που μπήκε με διάθεση να πιέσει, επιχειρώντας δυναμικές επιστροφές στο σερβίς της Μαρίας.

Η Γουάνγκ κράτησε το σερβίς της και ισοφάρισε σε 1-1 και από 40-15 κάτω βρέθηκε με δύο ευκαιρίες στα χέρια της, να κάνει το break στην Σάκκαρη. Η Ελληνιδα τενίστρια ωστόσο είχε υπομονή στα επόμενα ράλι, οδήγησε σε λάθη την αντίπαλό της και πήρε κεφάλι στο σκορ (2-1).

Η Γουάνγκ με ένα εύκολο game έκανε το 2-2, αλλά η Σάκκαρη για πρώτη φορά στο ματς κράτησε εύκολα το σερβίς της, για το 3-2. Δεν άλλαξε κάτι στα επόμενα δύο games, με την Μαρία στο υπέρ της 4-3, να βρίσκει break point, το οποίο έσβησε εμφατικά με winner η Γουάνγκ.

Στην δεύτερη ευκαιρία όμως τα κατάφερε, αφού ανάγκασε την αντίπαλό της να πάει σε slice από δύσκολη θέση και να κάνει το λάθος. Η Σάκκαρη πήγε να σερβίρει για να κλείσει το σετ και είχε δύο ευκαιρίες (40-15), αλλά εκεί όλα πήγαν στραβά. Στο 40-30 είχε ανοιχτή όλη τη διαγώνιο, αλλά αστόχησε σε εύκολο χτύπημα και ακολούθησαν άλλα δύο λάθη που έφεραν εκνευρισμό και την ίδια στιγμή το αναπάντεχο break για την Κινέζα που μείωσε σε 5-4.

Στο σερβίς της Κινέζας η Μαρία βρήκε άλλα δύο set point (15-40). Στο 30-40 έκανε άλλο ένα λάθος που θα έπρεπε να αποφύγει καθώς είχε ανέβει στο φιλέ και σημάδεψε πάνω του, ενώ η Γουάνγκ ήταν ουσιαστικά εκτός φάσης. Τελικά βρήκε και 5η ευκαιρία και η Γουάνγκ έκανε το αβίαστο λάθος για να κλείσει το σετ η Μαρία στο 6-4, έπειτα από 57 λεπτά.

Ελλειψη συγκέντρωσης, νεύρα και το ματς σε τρίτο σετ

Η Σάκκαρη ξεκίνησε να σερβίρει πρώτη και προηγήθηκε 30-0, όμως η Γουάνγκ πήρε τέσσερις συνεχόμενους και έκανε το break με το… καλημέρα.

Η Μαρία βρήκε δύο ευκαιρίες να πάρει πίσω το break, αλλά μία αστοχία της και ένα τρομερό σερβίς της Γουάνγκ, της στέρησαν την ευκαιρία. Το τρίτο game ήταν αρκετά ψυχοφθόρο και κράτησε σχεδόν 10 λεπτά. Η Μαρία σπαταλούσε αβαντάζ, βρέθηκε με break point πίσω κάποια στιγμή, αλλά γλίτωσε ένα πιθανό 0-3 και με δύο εξαιρετικά πρώτα σερβίς και έναν winner, μείωσε σε 2-1.

Στο επόμενο game σπατάλησε αρκετές ευκαιρίες στο 40-40 να βρεθεί σε break point, είτε με χαμένες επιστροφές, είτε με άστοχα βολέ και πήγε να σερβίρει με το 1-3 στην πλάτη της. Το μπάκχαντ της δεν δούλεψε και η Γουάνγκ άδραξε την ευκαιρία και έφτασε στο 4-1, πηγαίνοντας να σερβίρει. Εκανε το 5-1 η Κινέζα, που παρά το love game της Σάκκαρη, έκλεισε με τον ίδιο τρόπο το σετ.

Καθάρισε η Σάκκαρη και έφυγε για τα προημιτελικά

Στο τρίτο σετ, αμφότερες κράτησαν το σερβίς τους στο πρώτο change, με την Μαρία πάντως στο υπέρ της 1-0, να χάνει δύο ευκαιρίες για break στο σερβίς της αντιπάλου της. Είχε το προβάδισμα ωστόσο με 2-1 και στο σερβίς της Γουάνγκ βρήκε τρεις ευκαιρίες για break!

Εχασε τις πρώτες δύο και στην τρίτη η Κινέζα έκανε αβίαστο λάθος για να έρθει το 3-1 για την Σάκκαρη, που στη συνέχεια πήρε το σερβίς και με love game έφτασε στο 4-1. Η Γουάνγκ μείωσε σε 4-2, αλλά με μεγάλα πρώτα σερβίς η Σάκκαρη έφτασε στο 5-2.

Στο σερβίς της Κινέζας έφτασε σε διπλό match point, με την Γουάνγκ να βρίσκει οριακά γραμμή στο ένα από τα δύο και να μένει στο παιχνίδι. Μείωσε σε 5-3, με την Σάκκαρη να χάνει άλλα δύο match point στο σερβίς της και να βρίσκεται ξαφνικά με break point η Γουάνγκ! Το σερβίς της την έβγαλε όμως από το αδιέξοδο και την έστειλε στις «8» της διοργάνωσης.
