Arina Sambalenka won her first grand slam title by winning 2-1 sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) against Elena Rybakina.

Arina Sabalenka is the new "queen" of the Australian Open!

In a final that broke hearts in the third set, she beat Elena Rybakina 2-1 sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) and for the first time in her career, won a grand slam.

The game was not exciting at first, as the serve played such a dominant role from both players that few rallies were played. There, Sabalenka received two... prohibitive breaks (one from 40-0 and another with her own double fault).

But the Belarusian improved her returns and equalized, with the game having more impressive rallies as time went on. Sabalenka in the third set found the crucial break point at 3-3 and thus opened the way for her first grand slam title.

The impressive element is that Sabalenka, for the seventh consecutive match in a slam who is behind in the score, manages to turn it around. This time it was in the final... She closed the game after 2 hours and 28 minutes with 17 aces (9 Rybakina), 51 winners (31 Rybakina) and 28 unforced errors (25 her opponent).

This was the 12th title in the career of the 24-year-old Belarusian.

Unnecessary mistakes by Sabalenka and 1-0 by Rybakina

The two finalists started with a game won by their aces. In the third game of the set, Champalenka took a 40-0 lead on her serve and ... managed to lose it to a return winner and a lucky point by Rybakina, to be followed by service errors and a forehand by the Belarusian.

Without surprises, they closed the next two games after both held their serve, with Rybakina reaching 4-2 without allowing Sabalenka to return a single serve.

Although the Belarusian was stressed in the next game, she managed to keep it and reduce it to 4-3. In the next game, Sambalenka found herself with a triple break point from her opponent's mistakes and closed it with a straight pass to tie the game at 4-4.

But in the next game she committed a crime... She made several mistakes bringing Rybakina to a double break point, which she took advantage of thanks to the Belarusian's double fault.

The holder of last year's Wimbledon closed the set with a love game on her own serve.

Sabalenka dominates, the final in the third set

At the start of the second set Rybakina found herself with double break points, with Sabalenka surviving on her serve once again. In the next two games, both held, with the Belarusian taking out two aces at 40-40 and keeping the lead 2-1.

Sabalenka found her first break point in the match, in the next game, with Rybakina erasing it, but also giving her a second, which she did not let go unexploited.

Having "air" two games, Sabalenka tried to take advantage of the momentum, but with another double fault she gave her opponent a break point. He managed to erase it and go up 4-1, gaining a serious lead to take the second set.

Sabalenka immediately reached a double break point, but the tennis player from Kazakhstan turned the situation around and after escaping a third break point, she reduced to 4-2. The Belarusian reached a double set point, but Rybakina easily erased it and finally reduced to 5-3.

Sabalenka, however, with two aces at 30-30, made it 1-1.

The third set

The first half of the third set went by with very close games as both held their serve, even if they were faced with break points. In the fifth game, Rybakina erased a very crucial point and kept the lead 3-2.

3-3 came easily and then Sabalenka found two break points. The serve kept Rybakina in the game, but on the third chance Sabalenka found, she took a 4-3 lead.

The Belarusian was stymied by her opponent's returns, but with a big serve she reached 5-3. Rybakina now served to survive the match and cut to 5-4.

Sabalenka lost two match points on her serve (one with a double fault and one with an unforced error), she found herself with a break point on her back. She survived, lost a third match point, but in the fourth she reached the biggest success of her career so far...

Η Αρίνα Σαμπαλένκα κατέκτησε τον πρώτο της τίτλο σε grand slam επικρατώντας με 2-1 σετ (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) της Ελενα Ριμπάκινα.

Σε έναν τελικό που στο τρίτο σετ έσπασαν καρδιές, κέρδισε την Ελενα Ριμπάκινα με 2-1 σετ (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) και για πρώτη φορά στην καριέρα της, κατέκτησε grand slam.

Το παιχνίδι στην αρχή δεν ενθουσίασε, καθώς το σερβίς έπαιξε τόσο κυριαρχικό ρόλο και από τις δύο παίκτριες, με αποτέλεσμα να παιχτούν ελάχιστα ράλι. Εκεί η Σαμπαλένκα δέχτηκε δύο... απαγορευτικά break (ένα από 40-0 και άλλο ένα με δικό της διπλό λάθος).

Η Λευκορωσίδα όμως βελτίωσε τις επιστροφές της και ισοφάρισε, με το παιχνίδι όσο περνάει η ώρα να έχει και πιο εντυπωσιακά ράλι. Η Σαμπαλένκα στο τρίτο σετ βρήκε το κρίσιμο break point στο 3-3 και έτσι άνοιξε ο δρόμος για τον πρώτο της τίτλο σε grand slam.

To εντυπωσιακό στοιχείο είναι πως η Σαμπαλένκα για έβδομο συνεχόμενο ματς σε σλαμ που βρίσκεται πίσω στο σκορ, καταφέρνει να το γυρίσει. Αυτή τη φορά ήταν σε τελικό... Εκλεισε το παιχνίδι μετά από 2 ώρες και 28 λεπτά με 17 άσους (9 η Ριμπάκινα), 51 winners (31 η Ριμπάκινα) και 28 αβίαστα λάθη (25 η αντίπαλός της).

Αυτός ήταν ο 12ος τίτλος στην καριέρα της 24χρονης Λευκορωσίδας.

Αχρείαστα λάθη η Σαμπαλένκα και 1-0 η Ριμπάκινα

Οι δύο φιναλίστ άρχισαν με ένα κερδισμένο game από τους άσους τους. Στο τρίτο game του σετ, η Σαμπαλένκα στο σερβίς της προηγήθηκε με 40-0 και … κατάφερε να το χάσει από μία επιστροφή winner και έναν τυχερό πόντο της Ριμπάκινα, για να ακολουθήσουν λάθη της Λευκορωσίδας στο σερβίς και με ένα φόρχαντ.

Χωρίς εκπλήξεις έκλεισαν τα επόμενα δύο game αφού αμφότερες κράτησαν το σερβίς τους, με την Ριμπάκινα να φτάνει στο 4-2 μην επιτρέποντας στην Σαμπαλένκα να επιστρέψει ούτε ένα σερβίς της.

Η Λευκορωσίδα αν και αγχώθηκε στο επόμενο game, κατάφερε να το κρατήσει και να μειώσει σε 4-3. Στο επόμενο game η Σαμπαλένκα βρέθηκε με τριπλό break point από τα λάθη της αντιπάλου της και το έκλεισε με πέρασμα στην ευθεία για να ισοφαρίσει σε 4-4.

Ομως στο επόμενο game εγκλημάτισε… Εκανε αρκετά λάθη φέρνοντας την Ριμπάκινα σε διπλό break point, το οποίο και εκμεταλλεύτηκε χάρη στο διπλό λάθος της Λευκορωσίδας.

Η κάτοχος του περσινού Wimbledon έκλεισε στο δικό της σερβίς το σετ με love game.

Κυρίαρχη η Σαμπαλένκα, σε τρίτο σετ ο τελικός

Στο ξεκίνημα του δεύτερου σετ η Ριμπάκινα βρέθηκε με διπλό break point, με την Σαμπαλένκα να επιβιώνει χάρη στο σερβίς της για άλλη μία φορά. Στα επόμενα δύο games αμφότερες τα κράτησαν, με την Λευκορωσίδα να βγάζει δύο άσους στο 40-40 και να κρατά το προβάδισμα με 2-1.

Η Σαμπαλένκα βρήκε το πρώτο της break point στο ματς, στο επόμενο game, με την Ριμπάκινα να το σβήνει, αλλά να της δίνει και δεύτερο, το οποίο δεν άφησε να πάει ανεκμετάλλευτο.

Εχοντας «αέρα» δύο games η Σαμπαλένκα προσπάθησε να εκμεταλλευτεί το μομέντουμ όμως με ένα ακόμη διπλό λάθος έδωσε break point στην αντίπαλό της. Κατάφερε να το σβήσει και να φτάσει στο 4-1, αποκτώντας σοβαρό προβάδισμα για την κατάκτηση του δεύτερου σετ.

Η Σαμπαλένκα έφτασε αμέσως μετά σε διπλό break point, όμως η τενίστρια από το Καζακστάν γύρισε την κατάσταση και αφού γλίτωσε και τρίτο break point, μείωσε σε 4-2. Η Λευκορωσίδα έφτασε σε διπλό set point, όμως η Ριμπάκινα το έσβησε εύκολα και τελικά μείωσε σε 5-3.

Η Σαμπαλένκα όμως με δύο άσους στο 30-30, έκανε το 1-1.

Το τρίτο σετ

Το πρώτο μισό στο τρίτο σετ κύλησε με πολύ κλειστά game καθώς αμφότερες κράτησαν το σερβίς τους, έστω κι αν βρέθηκαν αντιμέτωπες με break point. Στο πέμπτο game έσβησε ένα πολύ κρίσιμο η Ριμπάκινα και κράτησε το προβάδισμα με 3-2.

Το 3-3 ήρθε εύκολα και στη συνέχεια η Σαμπαλένκα βρήκε δύο break points. Το σερβίς κράτησε την Ριμπάκινα στο game, αλλά στην τρίτη ευκαιρία που βρήκε η Σαμπαλένκα, πήρε προβάδισμα με 4-3.

Η Λευκορωσίδα στριμώχτηκε από τις επιστροφές της αντιπάλου της, αλλά με ένα μεγάλο σερβίς έφτασε στο 5-3. Η Ριμπάκινα σέρβιρε πλέον για την επιβίωσή της στο ματς και μείωσε σε 5-4.

Η Σαμπαλένκα έχασε δύο ματς πόιντ στο σερβίς της (ένα με διπλό λάθος και ένα με αβίαστο λάθος), βρέθηκε με break point στη πλάτη. Επιβίωσε, έχασε και τρίτο match point, αλλά στο τέταρτο έφτασε στην μεγαλύτερη επιτυχία της μέχρι τώρα καριέρας της...
