Zalgiris – Valencia 86-77: Lithuanians continue to be unstoppable with decisive Lo and double-double from Wright (video)
Zalgiris achieved another great victory, this time against Valencia with 86-77 for the 9th round of the Euroleague. Double-double from Moses Wright and clutch Maondo Lo ended the match.
Zalgiris proved to be tougher than Valencia and prevailed with 86-77 in a real derby of the 9th round of the Euroleague.
The leading scorer for the home team was Moses Wright, who seemed to lack rhythm at first, but was decisive later on. He scored 11 points and collected 10 rebounds.
The Spaniards fought hard and stayed in the game until the end, but at the crucial moment, Maondo Lo came in with a three-pointer of his own in the last minute and effectively ended the game.
The match
The two teams started the game by getting a very good score in destroying their opponent's game, but quite mediocre in offense. The score moved low, with the first period ending with 18-17.
Zalgiris and Valencia continued to exchange short runs at the beginning of the second quarter, until the Lithuanians found solutions behind 6.75 m. with Tubelis and Slivas hitting consecutive three-pointers and making the score 35-26, shortly after halftime. The home team was more patient in attack, while the Spanish saw Thompson make 0 of 5 shots. Somewhere along the line, the visitors responded and, culminating in Montero's three-pointer and foul in the 19th minute, reduced the gap before the break.
The second half continued exactly like the first, with the two teams exchanging good defenses, improved attacks, and strong duels. The entire third quarter was spent with Zalgiris and Valencia trading shots. The only thing that separated them at the end of the third period was Maodo Lo's buzzer-beater three-pointer at the end of it.
In the fourth period, the home team managed to gain a lead of up to 7 points, which seemed big considering the nature of the match. Wright, who had no rhythm in the first half, entered the match, and despite the insistence of the Spaniards, the Lithuanians entered the last minute at +3 (78-75).
It was then the turn of Maondo Lo, to hit a great three-pointer and make it 81-75 that could not be overturned in the remaining time.

Η Ζάλγκιρις πέτυχε ακόμα μία σπουδαία νίκη, αυτή τη φορά απέναντι στη Βαλένθια με 86-77 για την 9η αγωνιστική της Euroleague. Νταμπλ-νταμπλ από τον Μόουζες Ράιτ και clutch Μάοντο Λο τελείωσαν την αναμέτρηση.
Η Ζάλγκιρις αποδείχθηκε πιο σκληρή από τη Βαλένθια και επικράτησε με 86-77 σε ένα πραγματικό ντέρμπι της 9η αγωνιστικής της Euroleague.
Κορυφαίος των γηπεδούχων ήταν ο νταμπλ-νταμπλ Μόουζες Ράιτ, ο οποίος φάνηκε στην αρχή να μην έχει ρυθμό, όμως ήταν καθοριστικός στη συνέχεια. Πέτυχε 11 πόντους και μάζεψε 10 ριμπάουντ.
Οι Ισπανοί πάλεψαν σκληρά και έμειναν μέσα στο παιχνίδι ως το τέλος, όμως την κρίσιμη στιγμή ήρθε ο Μάοντο Λο που με δικό του τρίποντο έκανε το 81-75 στο τελευταίο λεπτό και τελείωσε ουσιαστικά το παιχνίδι.
Ο αγώνας
Οι δύο ομάδες ξεκίνησαν το παιχνίδι παίρνοντας πολύ καλό βαθμό στην καταστροφή του παιχνιδιού του αντιπάλου τους, αλλά αρκετά μέτριο στην επίθεση. Το σκορ κινήθηκε χαμηλά, με την πρώτη περίοδο να ολοκληρώνεται με 18-17.
Ζάλγκιρις και Βαλένθια συνέχισαν να ανταλλάσσουν μικρά σερί στην αρχή του δευτέρου δεκαλέπτου, μέχρι που οι Λιθουανοί βρήκαν λύσεις πίσω από τα 6,75 μ. με τον Τουμπέλις και τον Σλιβα να πετυχαίνουν συνεχόμενα τρίποντα και να κάνουν το σκορ 35-26, λίγο μετά τα μισά της περιόδου. Οι γηπεδούχοι είχαν μεγαλύτερη υπομονή στην επίθεση, ενώ οι Ισπανοί έβλεπαν στον Τόμσον να έχει 0 στα 5 σουτ. Κάπου εκεί οι φιλοξενούμενοι αντέδρασαν και με κορύφωμα το τρίποντο και φάουλ του Μοντέρο στο 19′ μείωσαν τη διαφορά πριν την ανάπαυλα.
Το δεύτερο μέρος συνέχισε ακριβώς όπως και το πρώτο με τις δύο ομάδες να αλλάζουν καλές άμυνες, βελτιωμένες επιθέσεις και δυνατές μονομαχίες. Όλο το τρίτο δεκάλεπτο κύλησε με Ζάλγκιρις και Βαλένθια να ανταλλάζουν χτυπήματα. Το μόνο που τις χώριζε στη λήξη της τρίτης περιόδου, ήταν το buzzer-beater τρίποντο του Μάοντο Λο στην εκπνοή της.
Στην τέταρτη περίοδο οι γηπεδούχοι κατάφεραν να πάρουν αέρα μέχρι και 7 πόντων, που για τα δεδομένα της αναμέτρησης φαινόταν μεγάλη. Ο Ράιτ που στο πρώτο μέρος δεν είχε ρυθμό, μπήκε στο ματς, και παρά την επιμονή των Ισπανών οι Λιθουανοί μπήκαν στο τελευταίο λεπτό στο +3 (78-75).
Εκεί ήταν η σειρά του Μάοντο Λο, να ευστοχήσει σε μεγάλο τρίποντο και να κάνει το 81-75 που δεν μπορούσε να ανατραπεί στον υπολειπόμενο χρόνο.
