Zverev finishes the job

Although yesterday's interruption slowed his pace, Sasha Zverev managed to finish his work against Jiri Lechka today and advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

The match was stopped yesterday at 23:00 (local time) due to the schedule at the London slam, at the moment when the 29-year-old German was ahead with the score 6-4, 7-5, 3-3.

The two players returned to Centre Court today to continue their match and the Czech complicated things, as he grabbed the third set and made it difficult for the No.3 tennis player in the world.

And in the fourth set, however, there was a close battle, with the Roland Garros winner finally clearing the match in the tiebreak and sealing the date with Taylor Fritz.

Now, of course, things are getting much more difficult for Zverev, as he is called upon to put an end to a major negative streak: he has lost seven consecutive times to the American (three on grass) and, in fact, a few days ago he was defeated in the semifinals of Halle.

The winner of this match will play in the semifinals with Flavio Compoli or Arthur Ferri.

If this is Zverev, then he will rise to No. 2 in the world, displacing Carlos Alcaraz, who remains out of the fight.

Αν και η χθεσινή διακοπή τού έκοψε τον ρυθμό, ο Σάσα Ζβέρεφ κατάφερε να ολοκληρώσει σήμερα το έργο του κόντρα στον Γίρι Λεχέτσκα και να περάσει στα προημιτελικά του Wimbledon.

Ο αγώνας σταμάτησε χθες στις 23.00 (τοπική ώρα) λόγω του ωραρίου στο λονδρέζικο σλαμ, τη στιγμή που ο 29χρονος Γερμανός ήταν μπροστά στο σκορ με 6-4, 7-5, 3-3.

Οι δύο παίκτες επέστρεψαν σήμερα στο Centre Court για να συνεχίσουν την αναμέτρησή τους και ο Τσέχος περιέπλεξε τα πράγματα, καθώς άρπαξε το τρίτο σετ και έβαλε δύσκολα στον Νο.3 τενίστα στον κόσμο.

Και στο τέταρτο σετ έγινε, όμως, κλειστή μάχη, με τον νικητή του Roland Garros να καθαρίζει τελικά την αναμέτρηση στο τάι μπρέικ και να σφραγίζει το ραντεβού με τον Τέιλορ Φριτζ.

Τώρα, βέβαια, τα πράγματα γίνονται πολύ πιο δύσκολο για τον Ζβέρεφ, καθώς καλείται να βάλει τέλος σε ένα μεγάλο αρνητικό σερί: έχει χάσει επτά διαδοχικές φορές από τον Αμερικανό (τρεις στο γρασίδι) και, μάλιστα, πριν λίγες μέρες ηττήθηκε στα ημιτελικά του Χάλε.

Ο νικητής αυτού του αγώνα θα παίξει στα ημιτελικά με Φλάβιο Κομπόλι ή Άρθουρ Φέρι.

Αν αυτός είναι ο Ζβέρεφ, τότε θα ανεβεί στο Νο.2 του κόσμου, εκτοπίζοντας τον Κάρλος Αλκαράθ, που παραμένει εκτός μάχης.
