Standard Liege – Charleroi: The derby will be held without fans after serious incidents
The derby between Standard Liege and Charleroi will be held without fans in the 2026/27 season, a decision that was made after the serious incidents of the last match.
The Belgian league has made a particularly strict decision, as the traditional derby between Standard Liege and Charleroi next season will be held without fans in the stands.
In more detail, according to what is reported by “Sporza”, this decision was made with the safety of the fans in mind, as well as the condemnation of behaviors that tarnish football and have no place on the stadiums. A measure that is of course a direct consequence of the serious incidents that occurred in the last “Choc Wallon”, the great Walloon derby, which was abandoned after the end of the match.
It is worth remembering that in their last match, Charleroi had won against Liege 2-0, a result that put an end to Standard’s European dream. However, unfortunately, the tension did not remain only on the pitch. The celebrations of the visitors caused reactions in the stands, while according to Belgian reports, three Charleroi players made gestures towards the home fans.

The situation got out of hand for good, however, when a Standard fan entered the pitch to remove a Charleroi flag. However, this ugly scene continued when hundreds of Standard fans invaded the pitch, causing scenes that went viral on the internet!
Thus, it was decided that the new season's matches will be played without spectators, and even in the 2027/28 season, only home fans will be allowed to attend.
