Panathinaikos threw away the 2-0 against Valencia, let them beat them twice on their home court and will go to Spain for Game 5, aiming to qualify for the 2026 Final Four the hard way.

Panathinaikos and Valencia will settle their differences in Game 5. The Greens won two games at Roig Arena, the Oranges responded with two wins at Telekom Center Athens, prevailing 89-86 in Game 4 and thus the series will return to Spain, with the last ticket to the EuroLeague Final Four 2026 remaining unclaimed.

Ergin Ataman's team found itself losing by as much as 15 points in the first half, made a great comeback in the third period, went ahead but never managed to become the boss and finally bowed to Pedro Martinez's total. Matt Costello made 1/2 shots with 7.1" before the end, Nikos Rogavopoulos collected the rebound, but Nigel Hayes-Davies failed to make the tying three-pointer for overtime, shooting just after the center.

The statistics that stood out

Panathinaikos had 6/15 two-pointers and 1/4 three-pointers in the penalty area, while conceding 10 points in the surprise attack. In the 20′, the greens had 2/11 three-pointers, but had found 12 second-chance points.

The match

Grad, Nunn, Osman, Hayes-Davis and Lesor started against Montero, Badio, Taylor, Costello and Sacco. The grand from the Dominican Republic came in hot and scored 10 points for 6-14 at 4’14”. Panathinaikos found some solutions and reduced the lead to 15-20 at 7’30”, but did not score again until the 10th minute and fell behind by 15-26.

Juancho and Toliopoulos came off the bench and scored 7 points, but three-pointers by Prandilla and Badio kept Valencia within double digits (22-34, 14’23”). Rivers hit a shot from behind 6.75m for 24-39. At 18’42” Juancho was charged with an offensive foul on Montero and “T” and reached the four-foul mark, to give way to Hayes-Davis. Osman scored two baskets and two goal-fouls in consecutive phases to reduce the lead to 37-44 (20′).

Taylor scored first in the second half, but a 12-2 run by Panathinaikos followed with dogged defenses, big shots by Nan and great baskets by Osman to overtake and make it 49-48 at 24′. Nan and Lesor wrote 53-52, but Thompson and Montero made three-pointers for 53-58 at 29’15’. With a three-pointer by Nan and a tip-in after an offensive rebound by Montero, the third period closed (56-60, 30′).

The cloverleaf tied the game (67-67) at 33’40”, but received a three-pointer with a board from Thompson and completed the five team fouls just before 35′, to see Taylor make 2/2 shots and make it 67-72. Osman and Rivers each made a pair of shots (69-74). Montero made four consecutive points, Nunn and Grant answered.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός πέταξε στα σκουπίδια το 2-0 κόντρα στη Βαλένθια, την άφησε να τον κερδίσει δύο φορές στο γήπεδό του και θα πάει στην Ισπανία για το Game 5, με στόχο να πάρει την πρόκριση στο Final Four 2026 με τον δύσκολο τρόπο.

Σε Game 5 θα λύσουν τις διαφορές τους Παναθηναϊκός και Βαλένθια. Οι πράσινοι πήραν δύο ματς στην Roig Arena, οι πορτοκαλί απάντησαν με δύο νίκες στο Telekom Center Athens, επικρατώντας με 89-86 στο Game 4 κι έτσι η σειρά θα γυρίσει στην Ισπανία, με το τελευταίο εισιτήριο του EuroLeague Final Four 2026 να παραμένει χωρίς κάτοχο.

Η ομάδα του Εργκίν Αταμάν βρέθηκε να χάνει μέχρι και με 15 πόντους στο πρώτο μέρος, έκανε μεγάλο come-back στην τρίτη περίοδο, πέρασε μπροστά αλλά δεν κατάφερε να γίνει ποτέ αφεντικό και τελικά λύγισε από το σύνολο του Πέδρο Μαρτίνεθ. Ο Ματ Κοστέλο έβαλε 1/2 βολές στα 7.1″ πριν το τέλος, ο Νίκος Ρογκαβόπουλος μάζεψε το ριμπάουντ, αλλά ο Νάιτζελ Χέιζ-Ντέιβις δεν κατάφερε να βάλει το τρίποντο ισοφάρισης για την παράταση, σουτάροντας λίγο μετά από το κέντρο.

Τα στατιστικά που ξεχώρισαν

Ο Παναθηναϊκός είχε 6/15 δίποντα κι 1/4 τρίποντα στο δεκάλπετο, ενώ δέχθηκε 10 πόντους στον αιφνιδιασμό. Στο 20′ οι πράσινοι είχαν 2/11 τρίποντα, όμως είχαν βρει 12 πόντους δεύτερης ευκαιρίας.

Ο αγώνας

Γκραντ, Ναν, Όσμαν, Χέιζ-Ντέιβις και Λεσόρ ξεκίνησαν απέναντι στους Μοντέρο, Μπαντιό, Τέιλορ, Κοστέλο και Σακό. Ο γκραντ από τη Δομινικανή Δημοκρατία μπήκε ζεστός και έβαλε 10 πόντους για το 6-14 στο 4’14”. Ο Παναθηναϊκός βρήκε κάποιες λύσεις και μείωσε σε 15-20 στο 7’30”, όμως δεν σκόραρε ξανά μέχρι το 10′ κι έμεινε πίσω με 15-26.

Χουάντσο και Τολιόπουλος ήρθαν από τον πάγκο κι έβαλαν 7 πόντους, όμως τα τρίποντα των Πραντίγια και Μπαντιό κράτησαν τη Βαλένθια σε διψήφια απόσταση (22-34, 14’23”). Ο Ρίβερς ευστόχησε πίσω από τα 6.75μ για το 24-39. Στο 18’42” ο Χουάντσο χρεώθηκε με επιθετικό φάουλ στον Μοντέρο και “Τ” κι έφτασε τα τέσσερα φάουλ, για να δώσει τη θέση του στον Χέιζ-Ντέιβις. Ο Όσμαν έβαλε δύο καλάθια και δύο γκολ-φάουλ σε διαδοχικές φάσεις για να μειώσει σε 37-44 (20′).

Ο Τέιλορ σκόραρε πρώτος στο β΄ μέρος, όμως ακολούθησε ένα επιμέρους 12-2 από τον Παναθηναϊκό με σκυλίσιες άμυνες, μεγάλα σουτ από Ναν και σπουδαία καλάθια από Όσμαν για το προσπέρασμα και το 49-48 στο 24′. Ναν και Λεσόρ έγραψαν το 53-52, αλλά Τόμπσον και Μοντέρο έβαλαν τρίποντα για 53-58 στο 29’15’. Με τρίποντο του Ναν και τιπ-ιν μετά από επιθετικό ριμπάουντ του Μοντέρο έκλεισε η τρίτη περίοδος (56-60, 30′).

Το τριφλύλλι έφερε το ματς στα ίσια (67-67) στο 33’40”, αλλά δέχθηκε ένα τρίποντο με ταμπλό από τον Τόμπσον και συμπλήρωσε τα πέντε ομαδικά φάουλ λίγο πριν το 35′, για να δει τον Τέιλορ να βάζει 2/2 βολές και να διαμορφώνει το 67-72. Όσμαν και Ρίβερς έβαλαν από ένα ζευγάρι βολών (69-74). Ο Μοντέρο έβαλε τέσσερις σερί πόντους, Ναν και Γκραντ απάντησαν.
