Sweeping, enjoyable, majestic Olympiacos, dismantled Monaco with 94-64 and made it 2-0 in the EuroLeague playoffs series. Great match from Sasha Vezenkov, under the gaze of Giannis Antetokounmpo – Novak Djokovic.
In Game 1 there were moments when it was amazing. In Game 2, Olympiacos was sweeping. They dismantled Monaco with 94-64, made it 2-0 in the EuroLeague playoffs series and have three opportunities ahead of them for the victory that will send them to the Final Four in Athens (22-24/5).
Piraeus had Sasha Vezenkov in amazing form (21 points in 20 minutes), they got a lot from Walkup, McKissic, Papanikolaou, Fournier, Hall, on a night when Tyler Dorsey and Nikola Milutinov were low, for their standards.
Giorgos Bartzokas did not have Tyson Ward at his disposal, he put Frank Nilikina in the twelve and the Frenchman also helped with his defenses. Tyreek Jones was the second in the center rotation, after the DNP in Game 1.
The image of Monaco, which again entered the match well, but could not hold on, was heartbreaking. In the second quarter, they were outscored (31-8), with Mike James ejected just before halftime and Daniel Theis leaving early with an injury to his already battered hand.
The series moves to Monte Carlo for Game 3 (5/5 at 20:45), with Olympiacos hoping to clear without incident. If Game 4 is needed, it will be next Thursday night (5/7 at 20:30), while if Game 5 is needed, it will be on May 12 or 13 at SEF.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Novak Djokovic were honored at the packed SEF, who enjoyed the evening. A truly beautiful evening, one of many that the Olympiacos fans have experienced this year at their home stadium.
The MVP
“Blossomgame will erase him,” many said. For now, in the first two games of the series, Sasha Vezenkov does not see the American. In Game 2 he scored 21 points in 20 minutes from 3/3 two-pointers and 5/8 three-pointers. He did not make a shot. He also had seven rebounds, two assists, 28 points in the evaluation system, in… half a game.
The match
With Walkup, Dorsey, Papanikolaou, Vezenkov, Milutinov, Olympiacos opened the match, which got two three-pointers from his ace for 8-2, but saw its center make two quick fouls. Vezenkov was throwing fire and led for 26-20 in the eighth minute and the truth is that the 28-23 of the period flattered Monaco. Which was, however, again very combative.
The second five worked well, with Fournier leading 35-25 and Nilikina providing a spectacle with his defenses. Joseph made shots for 41-27 in the 16th minute, Fournier and Peters shot the difference to 18 (47-29 in the 17th minute) and Monaco felt like they were drowning as their psychology had reached absolute zero. Olympiacos hammered them, James was sent off just before halftime and the 59-31 in the 20th minute said it all.
Papanikolaou and Vezenkov were hot from the perimeter, they made the shots for 68-45 in 26′, the Bulgarian reached 21 for 70-45 and the picture of the match did not change as Monaco had lost James and Tice. The Monegasques took the quarter with 13-22, they dropped the difference below 20, but they could not threaten Olympiacos.
The fourth period was procedural in nature. McKissic made a three-pointer for 82-59 in 36′, with Antetokounmpo – Djokovic enjoying the atmosphere, helping to make it even more dynamic and leaving full, as did the crowd who enjoyed another show from their team. The 2-0 was achieved, but it is not enough. Olympiacos will have three chances for the victory that will send them to the Final Four.

Σαρωτικός, απολαυστικός, αρχοντικός ο Ολυμπιακός, διέλυσε με 94-64 την Μονακό και έκανε το 2-0 στη σειρά των playoffs της EuroLeague. Μεγάλο ματς από τον Σάσα Βεζένκοβ, υπό το βλέμμα των Γιάννη Αντετοκούνμπο – Νόβακ Τζόκοβιτς.
Στο Game 1 υπήρξαν στιγμές που ήταν καταπληκτικός. Στο Game 2, o Ολυμπιακός ήταν σαρωτικός. Διέλυσε με 94-64 την Μονακό, έκανε το 2-0 στη σειρά των playoffs της EuroLeague και έχει μπροστά του τρεις ευκαιρίες για την νίκη που θα τον στείλει στο Final Four της Αθήνας (22-24/5).
Οι Πειραιώτες είχαν σε εκπληκτική κατάσταση τον Σάσα Βεζένκοβ (21 πόντοι σε 20 λεπτά), πήραν πολλά από Γουόκαπ, ΜακΚίσικ, Παπανικολάου, Φουρνιέ, Χολ, το βράδυ που ο Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ κι ο Νίκολα Μιλουτίνοβ έμειναν χαμηλά, για τα στάνταρ τους.
Ο Γιώργος Μπαρτζώκας δεν είχε τον Τάισον Γουορντ στη διάθεσή του, έβαλε τον Φρανκ Νιλικίνα στη δωδεκάδα και ο Γάλλος επίσης βοήθησε με τις άμυνές του. Ο Ταϊρίκ Τζόουνς ήταν ο δεύτερος στο ροτέισον των σέντερ, μετά από το DNP στο Game 1.
Αποκαρδιωτική η εικόνα της Μονακό, που και πάλι μπήκε καλά στο ματς, αλλά δεν άντεξε. Στο δεύτερο δεκάλεπτο διασύρθηκε (31-8), με τον Μάικ Τζέιμς να αποβάλλεται λίγο πριν από το ημίχρονο και τον Ντάνιελ Τάις να αποχωρεί νωρίς με τραυματισμό στο ήδη χτυπημένο χέρι του.
Η σειρά μεταφέρεται στο Μόντε Κάρλο για το Game 3 (5/5 στις 20:45), με τον Ολυμπιακό να ελπίζει ότι θα καθαρίσει χωρίς περιπέτειες. Αν χρειαστεί Game 4, θα γίνει το βράδυ της επόμενης Πέμπτης (7/5 στις 20:30), ενώ αν χρειαστεί Game 5, θα γίνει στις 12 ή στις 13 Μαΐου στο ΣΕΦ.
Αποθεώθηκαν στο κατάμεστο ΣΕΦ ο Γιάννης Αντετοκούνμπο κι ο Νόβακ Τζόκοβιτς, που απόλαυσαν τη βραδιά. Μια πραγματικά όμορφη βραδιά, από τις πολλές που έχει ζήσει φέτος ο κόσμος του Ολυμπιακού στην έδρα του.
Ο MVP
“Θα τον σβήσει ο Μπλόσομγκεϊμ” έλεγαν πολλοί. Προς το παρόν, στα δύο πρώτα ματς της σειράς, ο Σάσα Βεζένκοβ δεν βλέπει τον Αμερικανό. Στο Game 2 έβαλε 21 πόντους σε 20 λεπτά από 3/3 δίποντα και 5/8 τρίποντα. Δεν εκτέλεσε βολή. Είχε επίσης επτά ριμπάουντ, δύο ασίστ, 28 μονάδες στο σύστημα αξιολόγησης, σε… μισό ματς.
Ο αγώνας
Με Γουόκαπ, Ντόρσεϊ, Παπανικολάου, Βεζένκοβ, Μιλουτίνοβ άνοιξε το ματς ο Ολυμπιακός, που πήρε δύο τρίποντα από τον άσο του για το 8-2, αλλά είδε τον σέντερ του να κάνει δύο γρήγορα φάουλ. Ο Βεζένκοβ πετούσε φωτιές και ηγήθηκε για το 26-20 στο όγδοο λεπτό και η αλήθεια είναι ότι το 28-23 της περιόδου κολάκευε την Μονακό. Που ήταν, πάντως, ξανά πολύ μαχητική.
Η δεύτερη πεντάδα δούλεψε καλά, με τον Φουρνιέ να ηγείται για το 35-25 και με τον Νιλικίνα να χαρίζει θέαμα με τις άμυνές του. Ο Τζόσεφ έβαλε βολές για το 41-27 στο 16′, ο Φουρνιέ κι ο Πίτερς εκτόξευσαν τη διαφορά στους 18 (47-29 στο 17′) και η Μονακό ένιωσε να πνίγεται καθώς η ψυχολογία της είχε φτάσει στο απόλυτο μηδέν. Ο Ολυμπιακός την σφυροκόπησε, ο Τζέιμς αποβλήθηκε λίγο πριν βγει το ημίχρονο και το 59-31 στο 20′ τα έλεγε όλα.
Παπανικολάου και Βεζένκοβ ήταν ζεστοί από την περιφέρεια, έβαλαν τα σουτ για το 68-45 στο 26′ ο Βούλγαρος έφτασε τους 21 για το 70-45 και η εικόνα του αγώνα δεν άλλαξε καθώς η Μονακό είχε χάσει Τζέιμς και Τάις. Οι Μονεγάσκοι πήραν το δεκάλεπτο με 13-22, έριξαν τη διαφορά κάτω από τους 20, αλλά δεν μπορούσαν να απειλήσουν τον Ολυμπιακό.
Η τέταρτη περίοδος είχε διαδικαστικό χαρακτήρα. Ο ΜακΚίσικ έβαλε τρίποντο για το 82-59 στο 36′, με τους Αντετοκούνμπο – Τζόκοβιτς να απολαμβάνουν την ατμόσφαιρα, να βοηθούν για να γίνει ακόμα πιο δυναμική και να αποχωρούν γεμάτοι, όπως και ο κόσμος που απόλαυσε ακόμη ένα show από την ομάδα του. Το 2-0 έγινε, αλλά δεν είναι αρκετό. Ο Ολυμπιακός θα έχει τρεις ευκαιρίες για την νίκη που θα τον στείλει στο Final Four.
