F1 - China: Antonelli takes pole and makes history
Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes-AMG was the fastest driver in the battle for pole position at the Chinese GP and became the youngest poleman in Formula 1 history.
The qualifying sessions for the Chinese Grand Prix proved to be subversive and gave us the second poleman of 2026. Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes-AMG with a 1:32.064 caused a surprise and took pole position in Shanghai and tomorrow he has the first say for the victory. The Italian even became the youngest poleman in Formula 1 history by taking the record from Sebastian Vettel.
George Russell will start second tomorrow, who due to a mechanical problem set just one lap in Q3, which significantly affected him. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton will start third, having overtaken Leclerc, with the Ferrari drivers "locking" the second row of the starting grid.

Valtteri Bottas was first on the track in the 18-minute process, from which the 6 slowest drivers would be eliminated. Red Bull chose to start their drivers on the medium tire, while Ferrari on used tire rubber.
The Mercedes drivers immediately rose to the top of the standings, with Hamilton in 3rd after his first attempt on the soft tire. The one who spoiled the... party was Leclerc who temporarily took the lead in the process.
The favorites for elimination were the same as in the qualifying sprints and this was confirmed. Sainz, Albon, Alonso, Bottas, Stroll and Perez were eliminated from Q1.

The Mercedes drivers were first on the track in the second test period. Along with those from Ferrari and McLaren, they had used a set of soft tires. Russell recorded a 1:32.523 and was 1st, with Hamilton and Leclerc following.
Towards the end of the procedure, Antonelli with a fresh set moved up to 1st place, while Russell did not make any time. Behind, the battle for qualification was fierce with three drivers in positions 10 to 12 separated by 5 milliseconds.
The following were eliminated from Q2: Hulkenberg, Colapindo, Ocon, Lawson, Lindblad and Bortoletto.

The battle for the second pole position began with the leader of the standings George Russell having a problem and stopping on the track. The Briton managed to start the car and returned to the pits.
His teammate, Antonelli recorded the fastest time at the start with 1:32.322 with the Ferraris following. However, McLaren "stole" the show with Piastre and Norris in 2nd and 3rd places. But everything was decided in the end.

For the final attempt, all the drivers took to the track, with Russell finally setting a time. Antonelli improved the fastest performance to 1:32.064 and had Hamilton in 2nd place, who overtook Leclerc. However, at the last moment, Russell made a timed attempt and was ranked 2nd behind his teammate.
Hamilton remained 3rd and was followed by Leclerc, Piastri, Norris, Gasly, Verstappen, Hajar and Berman.

O Κίμι Αντονέλι της Mercedes-AMG ήταν ο ταχύτερος οδηγός στη μάχη της pole position του GP Κίνας και έγινε ο νεότερος poleman στην ιστορία της Formula 1.
Οι κατατακτήριες δοκιμές του Grand Prix Κίνας αποδείχθηκαν ανατρεπτικές και μας χάρισαν τον δεύτερο poleman του 2026. Ο Κίμι Αντονέλι της Mercedes-AMG με το 1:32,064 έκανε την έκπληξη και πήρε την pole position στη Σαγκάη και αύριο έχει τον πρώτο λόγο για τη νίκη. Ο Ιταλός έγινε μάλιστα ο νεότερος poleman στην ιστορία της Formula 1 παίρνοντας το ρεκόρ από τον Σεμπάστιαν Φέτελ.
Δεύτερος θα ξεκινήσει αύριο ο Τζορτζ Ράσελ, ο οποίος λόγω μηχανικού προβλήματος έθεσε μόλις ένα γύρο στο Q3, κάτι το οποίο τον επηρέασε σημαντικά. Τρίτος θα ξεκινήσει ο Λιούις Χάμιλτον της Ferrari, o οποίος ξεπέρασε τον Λεκλέρ, με τους οδηγούς της Ferrari να «κλειδώνουν» τη δεύτερη σειρά της εκκίνησης.

O Βάλτερι Μπότας βγήκε πρώτος στην πίστα στη διαδικασία των 18 λεπτών, από την οποία θα αποκλείονταν οι 6 πιο αργοί οδηγοί. Στη Red Bull επέλεξαν να βγάλουν τους οδηγούς τους με τη μεσαία γόμα, ενώ στη Ferrari με χρησιμοποιημένη γόμα ελαστικών.
Οι οδηγοί της Mercedes ανέβηκαν αμέσως στην κορυφή της κατάταξης, με τον Χάμιλτον να είναι 3ος μετά την πρώτη του προσπάθεια στη μαλακή γόμα. Αυτός που της χάλασε το… πάρτι ήταν ο Λεκλέρ που πήρε προσωρινά την πρωτοπορία στη διαδικασία.
Τα φαβορί για αποκλεισμό ήταν τα ίδια με τις κατατακτήριες σπριντ και αυτό επιβεβαιώθηκε. Από το Q1 αποκλείστηκαν οι Σάινθ, Άλμπον, Αλόνσο, Μπότας, Στρολ και Πέρεζ.

Πρώτοι στην πίστα στη δεύτερη περίοδο δοκιμών ήταν οι οδηγοί της Mercedes. Μαζί με αυτούς της Ferrari και της McLaren είχαν χρησιμοποιημένο σετ μαλακής γόμας. Ο Ράσελ έγραψε το 1:32,523 και ήταν 1ος, με τους Χάμιλτον και Λεκλέρ να ακολουθούν.
Προς το τέλος της διαδικασίας ο Αντονέλι με φρέσκο σετ ανέβηκε στην 1η θέση, ενώ ο Ράσελ δεν έκανε χρόνο. Πίσω η μάχη για την πρόκριση ήταν μεγάλη με τρεις οδηγούς στις θέσεις 10 έως 12 να χωρίζονται για 5 χιλιοστά του δευτερολέπτου.
Από το Q2 αποκλείστηκαν οι: Χούλκενμπεργκ, Κολαπίντο, Οκόν, Λόσον, Λίντμπλαντ και Μπορτολέτο.

Η μάχη για τη δεύτερη pole position ξεκίνησε με τον πρωτοπόρο της βαθμολογίας Τζορτζ Ράσελ να αντιμετωπίζει πρόβλημα και να σταματά στην πίστα. Ο Βρετανός κατάφερε να ξεκινήσει το μονοθέσιο και επέστρεψε στα pits.
O teammate του, Αντονέλι έγραψε τον ταχύτερο χρόνο στο ξεκίνημα με το 1:32,322 με τις Ferrari να ακολουθούν. Ωστόσο η McLaren «έκλεψε» την παράσταση με τους Πιάστρι και Νόρις στις θέσεις 2 και 3. Όλα όμως κρίθηκαν στο τέλος.

Για την τελική προσπάθεια βγήκαν στην πίστα όλοι οι οδηγοί, με τον Ράσελ να κάνει εν τέλει χρόνο. Ο Αντονέλι βελτίωσε την ταχύτερη επίδοση στο 1:32,064 και είχε 2ο τον Χάμιλτον που ξεπέρασε τον Λεκλέρ. Όμως την τελευταία στιγμή ο Ράσελ έκανε χρονομετρημένη προσπάθεια και κατετάγη στη 2η θέση πίσω από τον teammate του.
Ο Χάμιλτον παρέμεινε 3ος και πίσω του ακολούθησαν οι Λεκλέρ, Πιάστρι, Νόρις, Γκασλί, Φερστάπεν, Χατζάρ και Μπέρμαν.

Η δράση συνεχίζεται το πρωί της Κυριακής στις 09:00 ώρα Ελλάδος με το Grand Prix στη Σαγκάη.
