Real Madrid may have been squeezed by the competitive Virtus Bologna and the formidable Edwards (32 points), but they took the victory with 92-84 and maintained their place in the top four.

The Madrid team played with... fire but did not get burned. In the finale of the match, it took two big three-pointers from Hezonja and Campazzo to get their third consecutive victory in the Euroleague that keeps them in 4th place with a record now at 19-11. On the other hand, Virtus, who were playing without Hackett and Payola at the guards, fell to 13-17, remaining three wins away from the top ten.

The winners' top scorer was Mario Hezonja with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 turnovers, followed by Eddie Tavares with 14 points and Facundo Campazzo with 12 points, 4 assists. For Virtus, Carsen Edwards had a spectacular performance with 32 points (22 in the first half) and 5 assists, while Luca Vildoza added 15 points.

In the next matchday (31st), Real Madrid hosts Valencia (12/3) and Virtus also plays at home against Partizan on the same day (12/3).

Virtus surprised, Real responded

Virtus entered the match with more energy and efficiency, leading 8-11 with Edwards and Vildoza, while two close three-pointers from Alston and Edwards created a 10-17 lead. However, Real did not lose its composure, stayed on its game plan and, putting more pressure on the defense, managed to close the gap in the last three minutes of the period. With an offensive polyphony and Feliz taking the lead, the first quarter ended at 22-23.

Thanks to a 9-0 run and again with plurality in the front of the court, the home team escaped with a 31-23 lead, however Edwards responded with his own personal run for 31-30. Real Madrid, however, controlled the game and Yul, with his scoring and creation, helped to make it 39-30, along with Tavares' contribution, while Campazzo, with a buzzer beater three-pointer from the center, made it 46-40 at halftime, at the moment when Edwards had scored 22 of Virtus' 40 points.

Real Madrid cleaned up with Hezonja and Campazzo

Real Madrid returned to the match with the intention of cleaning it up, Hezonja and Tavares pushed in that direction for 56-45, but the guests showed reflexes, quickly reducing to 56-52 and even more to 60-57 with Diarra and Edwards. Real's... numbness continued, Vildoz with a three-pointer and Diarra with 1/2 shots tied the score at 61-61, before Deck with another buzzer beater three-pointer made it 64-61 in the third period. Virtus now believed it and Edwards - Vildoz with three-pointers put them ahead (64-67) and the two teams were now going hand in hand (75-75 at 35'). The game would be decided in the details, with Real taking a significant breather with two consecutive three-pointers by Hezonja and Campazzo (83-77), with Niang and Diouf making mistakes. Hezonja and Campazzo made their shots for 87-79 at 1'20'' before the final, Vildoza missed another three-pointer and in the development of the phase Feliz finished the game with a layup for 89-79 at 48''.

Μπορεί η Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης να ζορίστηκε από την ανταγωνιστική Βίρτους Μπολόνια και τον τρομερό Έντουαρντς (32π.), όμως πήρε τη νίκη με 92-84 και διατήρησε τη θέση της εντός τετράδας.

Οι Μαδριλένοι έπαιξαν με τη... φωτιά αλλά δεν κάηκαν. Στο φινάλε του αγώνα χρειάστηκαν δύο μεγάλα τρίποντα από Χεζόνια και Καμπάτσο για να έρθει η τρίτη σερί νίκη στη Euroleague που τους διατηρεί στην 4η θέση με ρεκόρ πλέον στο 19-11. Αντίθετα, η Βίρτους, που έπαιζε χωρίς τους Χάκετ και Παγιόλα στα γκαρντ, υποχώρησε στο 13-17 παραμένοντας τρεις νίκες μακριά από την δεκάδα.

Πρώτος σκόρερ των νικητών ήταν ο Μάριο Χεζόνια με 19 πόντους, 6 ριμπάουντ, 3 ασίστ, αλλά και 6 λάθη και τον ακολούθησε σε απόδοση ο Έντι Ταβάρες με 14 πόντους και ο Φακούντο Καμπάτσο με 12 πόντους, 4 ασίστ. Για τη Βίρτους έκανε εκπληκτική εμφάνιση ο Κάρσεν Έντουαρντς με 32 πόντους (οι 22 στο πρώτο ημίχρονο) και 5 ασίστ, ενώ 15 πόντους πρόσθεσε ο Λούκα Βιλντόζα.

Στην επόμενη αγωνιστική (31η) η Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης υποδέχεται τη Βαλένθια (12/3) και η Βίρτους την ίδια μέρα (12/3) παίζει επίσης εντός έδρας με την Παρτιζάν.

Αιφνιδίασε η Βίρτους, απάντησε η Ρεάλ

Με περισσότερη ενέργεια και αποτελεσματικότητα μπήκε στο ματς η Βίρτους, που με τους Έντουαρντς και Βιλντόζα προηγήθηκε 8-11, ενώ δύο κολλητά τρίποντα από Άλστον και Έντουαρντς δημιούργησαν το 10-17. Η Ρεάλ δεν έχασε όμως την ψυχραιμία της, έμεινε στο πλάνο της και βάζοντας περισσότερη πίεση στην άμυνα κατάφερε να μαζέψει τη διαφορά στο τελευταίο τρίλεπτο της περιόδου. Με επιθετική πολυφωνία και τον Φελίζ να βγαίνει μπροστά το πρώτο δεκάλεπτο έκλεισε στο 22-23.

Χάρη σε σερί 9-0 και ξανά με πλουραλισμό στο μπροστά μέρος του παρκέ, οι γηπεδούχοι ξέφυγαν με 31-23, ωστόσο ο Έντουαρντς απάντησε με δικό του προσωπικό σερί για το 31-30. Η Ρεάλ όμως έλεγχε το παιχνίδι και ο Γιουλ με σκορ και δημιουργία βοήθησε για το 39-30 μαζί με τη συνδρομή του Ταβάρες, ενώ ο Καμπάτσο με buzzer beater τρίποντο από το κέντρο έγραψε το 46-40 του ημιχρόνου, την στιγμή που ο Έντουαρντς είχε βάλει τους 22 πόντους από τους 40 πόντους της Βίρτους.

Καθάρισε η Ρεάλ με Χεζόνια και Καμπάτσο

Η Ρεάλ επέστρεψε στο ματς με διάθεση να το καθαρίσει, Χεζόνια και Ταβάρες έσπρωξαν προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση για το 56-45, όμως οι φιλοξενούμενοι έδειξαν αντανακλαστικά, μειώνοντας γρήγορα σε 56-52 και ακόμα περισσότερο σε 60-57 με τους Ντιαρά και Έντουαρντς. To... μούδιασμα της Ρεάλ είχε συνέχεια, Βιλντόζα με τρίποντο και Ντιαρά με 1/2 βολές ισοφάρισαν σε 61-61, προτού ο Ντεκ με νέο buzzer beater τρίποντο διαμορφώσει το 64-61 της τρίτης περιόδου.

Η Βίρτους πλέον το πίστευε και οι Έντουαρντς - Βιλντόζα με τρίποντα την έβαλαν μπροστά (64-67) και οι δύο ομάδες πήγαιναν πλέον χέρι-χέρι (75-75 στο 35'). Το παιχνίδι θα κρινόταν στις λεπτομέρειες, με τη Ρεάλ να παίρνει σημαντική ανάσα με τα δύο διαδοχικά τρίποντα των Χεζόνια και Καμπάτσο (83-77), με τους Νιανγκ και Ντιουφ να κάνουν λάθη. Χεζόνια και Καμπάτσο έβαλαν τις βολές τους για το 87-79 στο 1'20'' πριν το φινάλε, ο Βιλντόζα έχασε ακόμα ένα τρίποντο και στην εξέλιξη της φάσης ο Φελίζ τελείωσε το παιχνίδι με λέι απ για το 89-79 στα 48''.
