Panathinaikos AKTOR won a huge 82-81 victory on Tuesday night (3/2) against Real Madrid for the 26th round of the EuroLeague. In a great match, which became a thriller in the final.

Huge because it needed it psychologically. Huge and in terms of points, since the greens have now beaten the Madrid team both home and away, so they will have them below in a possible tie.

Kostas Sloukas was once again the leader of the cloverleaf, scoring 22 points and giving the signal for the counterattack, while Jerian Grant scored the big winning basket 2″ before the final, following with 19 points. Juancho Hernangomez was also pivotal, who had scored a very big three-pointer with 12.5″ on the clock.

After this result, Panathinaikos rose to 16-10 (9-4 home and 7-6 away) and topped Real, which also has 16-10 (12-1 home and 4-9 away).

The statistics that stood out

Real had 6/13 three-pointers in the first period. In the same period, they got 9 points from 4 offensive rebounds and 7 points from 4 Panathinaikos mistakes. In the second period, the Madrid team had 0/5 three-pointers, but the green team closed the first half with 2/10 behind 6.75m.

At the end of the match, the points in the surprise were 4-5, the points from opponent's mistakes 17-14 and the second chance points 6-15, but this did not prevent Panathinaikos from emerging victorious in this tough battle.

Panathinaikos entered the match with Shorts, Grant, Osman, Juancho and Farid, but Hezonja and Abalde put Real in a leading position early on (8-14, 5′) to achieve the double-score (11-22) at 7’30”, after a three-pointer by the latter. The quarter ended with the green team at -10 (16-26), after a foul goal by Sloukas and the guests having 6/13 three-pointers.

In the first minutes of the second period, the productivity of both teams dropped. Sloukas began to provide solutions to the cloverleaf, which approached 32-37 at 1’47” before the break, after a pair of shots by Shorts. From that point until halftime, Scariolo's team ran 7-2 in individual games and the score was 36-44 (20′).

The greens entered the third period with a 10-0 run in 3’18” to overtake at 46-44 and put the world in the equation. Okiki and Len put a brake on this run (46-49, 24’15”). Sloukas, Osman and Grant were there to provide solutions. The 36-year-old Greek guard closed the third period with 10 points to reach 20 and write 60-61 (30′).

Juancho and Grant made back-to-back three-pointers for 66-61. An emphatic dunk by Farid and a basket by Grant made it 70-65 in the 34th minute. Campasso made a three-pointer, but Grant was there again to score (72-67).

Real Madrid handed the ball to Len and he scored 6 points to make it 73-73 at 37’30”. Farid scored for 75-73, but Campasso made it 75-75. The Ukrainian center of the visitors nailed it, made a free throw and made it 75-78 with 30.8″ on the clock.

Sloukas scored, Juancho stole the rebound and made a huge three-pointer for 80-78 with 12.5″ to go. Hezonia scored a goal-foul for 80-81 at 8.7″ and when everything looked bleak, Grant came to make the winning shot.

Ο Κώστας Σλούκας ήταν για μια ακόμα φορά ο ηγέτης του τριφυλλιού, βάζοντας 22 πόντους και δίνοντας το σύνθημα της αντεπίθεσης, ενώ ο Τζέριαν Γκραντ έβαλε το μεγάλο νικητήριο καλάθι στα 2″ πριν το φινάλε, ακολουθώντας με 19 πόντους. Κομβικός και ο Χουάντσο Ερνανγκόμεθ που είχε βάλει ένα πολύ μεγάλο τρίποντο με 12.5″ στο χρονόμετρο.

Μετά από αυτό το αποτέλεσμα ο Παναθηναϊκός ανέβηκε στο 16-10 (9-4 εντός και 7-6 εκτός έδρας) και καπέλωσε τη Ρεάλ, που έχει επίσης 16-10 (12-1 εντός και 4-9 εκτός έδρας).

Ο αγώνας

Ο Παναθηναϊκός μπήκε στο ματς με Σορτς, Γκραντ, Όσμαν, Χουάντσο και Φαρίντ, όμως ο Χεζόνια και Αμπάλδε έβαλαν από νωρίς τη Ρεάλ σε θέση οδηγού (8-14, 5′) για να προκύψει το double-score (11-22) στο 7’30”, έπειτα από τρίποντο του δεύτερου. Το δεκάλεπτο έκλεισε με τους πράσινους στο -10 (16-26), μετά από ένα γκολ-φάουλ του Σλούκα και τους φιλοξενούμενους να έχουν 6/13 τρίποντα.

Τα πρώτα λεπτά της δεύτερης περιόδου έπεσε η παραγωγικότητα των δύο ομάδων. Ο Σλούκας άρχισε να δίνει λύσεις στο τριφύλλι, που πλησίασε σε 32-37 στα 1’47” πριν την ανάπαυλα, μετά από ένα ζευγάρι βολών του Σορτς. Από εκείνο το σημείο μέχρι και το ημίχρονο, η ομάδα του Σκαριόλο έτρεξε επιμέρους 7-2 και το σκορ διαμορφώθηκε σε 36-44 (20′).

Οι πράσινοι μπήκαν στην τρίτη περίοδο με σερί 10-0 σε 3’18” για να προσπεράσουν με 46-44 και να βάλουν τον κόσμο στην εξίσωση. Οκίκι και Λεν έβαλαν φρένο σε αυτό το σερί (46-49, 24’15”). Σλούκας, Όσμαν και Γκραντ ήταν εκεί για να δώσουν λύσεις. Ο 36χρονος Έλληνας γκαρντ έκλεισε την τρίτη περίοδο με 10 πόντους για να φτάσει στους 20 και να γράψει το 60-61 (30′).

Χουάντσο και Γκραντ έβαλαν back-to-back τρίποντα για το 66-61. Ένα εμφατικό κάρφωμα του Φαρίντ κι ένα καλάθι του Γκραντ διαμόρφωνα το 70-65 στο 34′. Ο Καμπάσο έβαλε τρίποντο, αλλά ο Γκραντ ήταν ξανά εκεί για να σκοράρει (72-67).

Η Ρεάλ ακούμπησε την μπάλα στον Λεν κι εκείνος έβαλε 6 πόντους για να προκύψει το 73-73 στο 37’30”. Ο Φαρίντ σκόραρες για το 75-73, αλλά ο Καμπάσο έγραψε το 75-75. Ο Ουκρανός σέντερ των φιλοξενούμενων κάρφωσε, έβαλε και μια συμληρωματική βολή και έγραψε το 75-78 με 30.8″ στο χρονόμετρο.

Ο  Σλούκας σκόραρε, ο Χουάντσο έκλεψε στην επαναφορά και έβαλε τεράστιο τρίποντο για το 80-78 στα 12.5″ για το τέλος. Ο Χεζόνια πέτυχε γκολ-φάουλ για το 80-81 στα 8.7″ κι εκεί που όλα έμοιαζαν μαύρα, ήρθε ο Γκραντ να βάλει το νικητήριο σουτ.
