Gorzow – Athinaicos 69-77: Great away win and qualification to the “32” of the EuroCup Women

Athinaicos ideally completed its obligations in the group stage of the EuroCup Women, prevailing away from Gorzow with 69-77 and qualifying to the “32” of the competition.

Athinaicos closed the group stage in the best possible way, recording an away win over the Polish Gorzow with 69-77.

Byron’s team, which had already secured its qualification to the next phase of the EuroCup Women, played with concentration, intensity and mature choices, sealing the first place in the tenth group.

The Greek team came into the game strong, “hitting” the Gorzoff zone with an excellent percentage of three-pointers (5/8 in the first quarter) and with Holly Winterburn guiding ideally, building an early ten-point lead.

Despite the temporary reaction of the home team, Athenian ended the first quarter ahead (22-27).

In the second quarter, Morgan Birch and Borislava Hristova took action, with Vaso Luka providing important defensive solutions with Byronana’s team opening the pace, increasing the difference to +14 and going into the locker room with a clear lead (35-51).

The picture did not change in the third quarter, where Athinaikos took an 18-point lead, while Gorzov struggled to react and also lost Ovousou to an injury.

However, the game became interesting again in the finale, the relaxation of the Greek team gave Gorzov the opportunity to run an impressive 14-0, reducing from 47-65 to 60-65 and putting pressure on.

Stella Kaltsidou's timeout and Keys' crucial basket stopped the streak, and with a small 6-0 Athinaikos restored order, "locking" the match.

With composure in the last minutes, the Greek team maintained the lead and reached the final 69-77, completing the group stage with a victory and securing a high position in the ranking ahead of the "32".

Ο Αθηναϊκός ολοκλήρωσε ιδανικά τις υποχρεώσεις του στη φάση των ομίλων του EuroCup Women, επικρατώντας εκτός έδρας της Γκόρζοφ με 69-77 και προκρινόμενος στους “32” της διοργάνωσης.

Με τον καλύτερο δυνατό τρόπο έκλεισε τη φάση των ομίλων ο Αθηναϊκός, καταγράφοντας μία εκτός έδρας νίκη επί της πολωνικής Γκόρζοφ με 69-77.

Η ομάδα του Βύρωνα, που είχε ήδη εξασφαλίσει την πρόκρισή της στην επόμενη φάση του EuroCup Women, έπαιξε με συγκέντρωση, ένταση και ώριμες επιλογές, σφραγίζοντας την πρωτιά στο δέκατο όμιλο.

Η ελληνική ομάδα μπήκε δυνατά στο παιχνίδι, “χτυπώντας” τη ζώνη της Γκορζόφ με εξαιρετικό ποσοστό στα τρίποντα (5/8 στο πρώτο δεκάλεπτο) και με την Χόλι Γουίντερμπερν να καθοδηγεί ιδανικά, χτίζοντας από νωρίς διαφορά δέκα πόντων.

Παρά την προσωρινή αντίδραση των γηπεδούχων, ο Αθηναϊκός έκλεισε το πρώτο δεκάλεπτο μπροστά (22-27).

Στο δεύτερο δεκάλεπτο, Μόργκαν Μπερτς και Μπορισλάβα Χρίστοβα ανέλαβαν δράση, με τη Βάσω Λούκα να δίνει σημαντικές αμυντικές λύσεις με την ομάδα του Βύρωνανα ανοίγει το ρυθμό, ανεβάζοντας τη διαφορά στο +14 και πήγε στα αποδυτήρια με σαφές προβάδισμα (35-51).

Η εικόνα δεν άλλαξε στο τρίτο δεκάλεπτο, όπου ο Αθηναϊκός πήρε προβάδισμα 18 πόντων, ενώ η Γκορζόφ δυσκολευόταν να αντιδράσει και έχασε και την Οβούσου με τραυματισμό.

Το παιχνίδι όμως πήρε ξανά ενδιαφέρον στο φινάλε, η χαλάρωση της ελληνικής ομάδας έδωσε στην Γκορζόφ την ευκαιρία να τρέξει ένα εντυπωσιακό 14-0, μειώνοντας από το 47-65 σε 60-65 και βάζοντας πίεση.

Το τάιμ άουτ της Στέλλας Καλτσίδου και το κρίσιμο καλάθι της Κις σταμάτησαν το σερί, και με ένα μικρό 6-0 ο Αθηναϊκός αποκατέστησε την τάξη, “κλειδώνοντας” το ματς.

Με ψυχραιμία στα τελευταία λεπτά, η ελληνική ομάδα διατήρησε το προβάδισμα και έφτασε στο τελικό 69-77, ολοκληρώνοντας με νίκη τη φάση των ομίλων και εξασφαλίζοντας υψηλή θέση στο ranking ενόψει των “32”.
