Stoiximan Super League: All matches in the championship will have semi-automatic offside in the new season

The Stoiximan Super League is being completely modernized following the standards of the top leagues worldwide, as from the new season all matches in the championship will be played with semi-automatic offside.

The semi-automatic offside passed the test in the playoffs (1-4) of last year's Stoiximan Super League and now all matches in the new season will have this technology.

The organizing authority of the Greek championship announced this on Wednesday morning (20/08), noting at the same time that of course there will be VAR in all games.

The Super League announcement in detail

“Following the unanimous decision of the Super League Board of Directors, VAR (Video Assistant Referee) and Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT) technology will be implemented in all matches of the Stoiximan Super League 2025-2026 Championship.”

The Super League and the Hellenic Football Federation are collaborating with Hawk-Eye Innovations, a Sony Group company, as the exclusive provider of VAR and SAOT technologies, for all matches in the Stoiximan Super League Championship and the Betsson Greek Cup.

The agreement follows the successful collaboration with Hawk-Eye Innovations in the Stoiximan Playoffs matches (places 1-4) as well as in the Betsson Greek Cup final of the 2024/25 season.

For the use of VAR and Semi-Automated Offside (SAOT) a specialist technologist equipment is installed in all the stadiums used by the Super League teams.

The SAOT uses 10 detection cameras to make accurate offside decisions by analyzing the position of each player on the pitch, from 29 points on the body and the trajectory of the ball, within seconds. Thus, it ensures the 3D visualization of the phases, providing a much more effective placement of the virtual offside line and reducing the decision-making time for the referee.

The provision of Hawk-Eye’s innovative technologies for VAR and semi-automatic offside detection in all regular and play-off matches of the Super League, as well as in the Betsson Greek Cup, strengthens the position of the Super League and EPO as innovators in European football, as it allows for accurate and faster decisions to be made on the pitch.

Super League Deputy President Katia Koxenoglou said:

“The Board of Directors of Super League Greece unanimously approved the implementation of VAR and Semi-Automatic Offside (SAOT) technologies in all matches of the Stoiximan Super League 2025-26, following their successful use during the playoffs of last season.

In order to upgrade the consistency and accuracy of referee decisions, the Super League has decided to collaborate with Hawk Eye Innovations, a leading football technology company with a proven track record in UEFA competitions and top football leagues, to further enhance the integrity and faster and more accurate referee decision-making process in all matches of the Stoiximan Super League 2025-26 Championship.”

H Stoiximan Super League εκσυγχρονίζεται πλήρως ακολουθώντας τα πρότυπα των κορυφαίων πρωταθλημάτων παγκοσμίως, καθώς από τη νέα σεζόν όλοι οι αγώνες του πρωταθλήματος θα διεξαχθούν με ημιαυτόματο οφσάιντ.

Το ημιαυτόματο οφσάιντ πέρασε το τεστ στα playoffs (1-4) της περσινής Stoiximan Super League και πλέον όλοι οι αγώνες της νέας σεζόν θα έχουν την εν λόγω τεχνολογία.

Η διοργανώτρια αρχή του ελληνικού πρωταθλήματος το ανακοίνωσε το πρωί της Τετάρτης (20/08), σημειώνοντας παράλληλα ότι φυσικά σε όλα τα παιχνίδια θα υπάρχει και VAR.

Αναλυτικά η ανακοίνωση της Super League

“Σε συνέχεια της ομόφωνης απόφασης του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της Super League, σε όλους τους αγώνες του Πρωταθλήματος Stoiximan Super League 2025-2026, θα εφαρμοστεί η τεχνολογία VAR (Video Assistant Referee) και Ημιαυτόματου Οφσάιντ (SAOT, Semi-Automated Offside Technology).

H Super League και η Ελληνική Ποδοσφαιρική Ομοσπονδία, συνεργάζονται με την Hawk-Eye Innovations, εταιρία του ομίλου Sony, ως αποκλειστικό πάροχο των τεχνολογιών VAR και SAOT, για όλους τους αγώνες στο Πρωτάθλημα Stoiximan Super League και το Κυπέλλο Ελλάδας Betsson.

Η συμφωνία έρχεται σε συνέχεια της επιτυχούς συνεργασίας με την Hawk-Eye Innovations στους αγώνες των Stoiximan Playoffs (θέσεις 1-4) καθώς και στον τελικό του Κυπέλλου Ελλάδας Betsson της σεζόν 2024/25.

Για τη χρήση του VAR και του Ημιαυτόματου Οφσάιντ (SAOT) ειδικός τεχνολογικός εξοπλισμός τοποθετείται σε όλα τα γήπεδα που χρησιμοποιούν οι ομάδες της Super League.

Το SAOT χρησιμοποιεί 10 κάμερες ανίχνευσης, για τηv ακριβή λήψη αποφάσεων οφσάιντ μέσω της ανάλυσης της θέσης κάθε παίκτη στον αγωνιστικό χώρο, από 29 σημεία στο σώμα και την τροχιά της μπάλας, μέσα σε δευτερόλεπτα.  Έτσι, εξασφαλίζει την τρισδιάστατη απεικόνιση των φάσεων, παρέχοντας πολύ πιο αποτελεσματική τοποθέτηση της εικονικής γραμμής οφσάιντ και μειώνοντας τον χρόνο λήψης απόφασης από το διαιτητή.

H παροχή των καινοτόμων τεχνολογιών της Hawk-Eye για το VAR και την ημιαυτόματη ανίχνευση οφσάιντ σε όλους τους αγώνες κανονικής διάρκειας και των πλέι οφ της Super League, καθώς και στο Κύπελλο Ελλάδας Betsson, ενισχύει τη θέση της Super League και της ΕΠΟ ως καινοτόμους στο ευρωπαϊκό ποδόσφαιρο, καθώς επιτρέπει τη λήψη ακριβών και ταχύτερων αποφάσεων στον αγωνιστικό χώρο.

«Το Διοικητικό Συμβούλιο της Super League Greece ενέκρινε ομόφωνα την εφαρμογή των τεχνολογιών VAR και Ημιαυτόματου Offside (SAOT), σε όλους τους αγώνες του Πρωταθλήματος Stoiximan Super League 2025-26, σε συνέχεια της επιτυχούς χρήσης τους, κατά τη διάρκεια των πλέι οφ της περασμένης σεζόν. 

Προκειμένου να αναβαθμιστεί η συνέπεια και η ακρίβεια των αποφάσεων των διαιτητών, η Super League αποφάσισε να συνεργαστεί με την Hawk Eye Innovations, μια εταιρεία ηγέτη στις τεχνολογίες ποδοσφαίρου, με αποδεδειγμένο ιστορικό σε διοργανώσεις της UEFA και κορυφαίες ποδοσφαιρικές λίγκες, για την περαιτέρω ενίσχυση της ακεραιότητας και της ταχύτερης και πιο ακριβούς διαδικασίας λήψης αποφάσεων των διαιτητών σε όλους τους αγώνες του Πρωταθλήματος Stoiximan Super League 2025-26».

«Η Hawk-Eye Innovations θα είναι ο αποκλειστικός πάροχος VAR για τους τους αγώνες του Πρωταθλήματος Stoiximan Super League 2025-26 καθώς και του Κυπέλλου Ελλάδας Betsson.
