F1 - Austria: McLaren takes the lead with Norris fastest in FP2

McLaren Racing's Lando Norris was the fastest driver in the second session of Formula 1 free practice on Friday at the Red Bull Ring.

The action at the Austrian Grand Prix, the 11th Formula 1 race of 2025, continued with FP2. Teams and drivers were given one hour to improve their cars for the rest of the three-day race.

Despite threatening clouds gathering over the Red Bull Ring, rain did not make an appearance.

McLaren in a position of strength

The fastest driver in FP2 of the Austrian GP was Lando Norris. The British McLaren driver on the soft tyres recorded a time of 1:04.580 and took 1st place in the process despite not taking part in FP1. Second in the standings was his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who was a tenth of a second slower than Norris.

Max Verstappen was in 3rd place, but his gap to the top was disappointing. The Dutchman was 0.318 off Norris, and even made a slower effort than the Briton. Lance Stroll of Aston Martin was impressive, taking 4th place with excellent pace.

Ferrari reacted in FP2

Charles Leclerc in the upgraded SF-25 took 5th place and was ahead of George Russell of Mercedes-AMG F1. Yuki Tsunoda was in 7th place, while Gabriel Bortoletto of Sauber was impressive once again with 8th place and an excellent lap.

The top 10 was completed by Fernando Alonso with Aston Martin and Lewis Hamilton with Ferrari. The British multiple champion had another problematic testing period, as he faced several issues with his engine.

The rest of the three-day session

The action continues on Saturday at 13:30 with the third and final free practice session of Formula 1 at the Austrian GP.

O Λάντο Νόρις της McLaren Racing ήταν ο ταχύτερος οδηγός στη δεύτερη περίοδο ελεύθερων δοκιμών της Formula 1 την Παρασκευή στο Red Bull Ring.

Η δράση στο Grand Prix Αυστρίας, τον 11ο αγώνα της Formula 1 στο 2025 συνεχίστηκε με το FP2. Ομάδες και οδηγοί είχαν στη διάθεσή τους μία ώρα ώστε να βελτιώσουν τα μονοθέσιά τους για τη συνέχεια του τριημέρου.

Παρά τα απειλητικά σύννεφα που είχαν μαζευτεί πάνω από το Red Bull Ring, η βροχή δεν έκανε την εμφάνισή της.

Η McLaren σε θέση ισχύος

Ταχύτερος οδηγός στο FP2 του GP Αυστρίας ήταν ο Λάντο Νόρις. Ο Βρετανός οδηγός της McLaren με τη μαλακή γόμα ελαστικών σημείωσε το 1:04,580 και πήρε την 1η θέση στη διαδικασία παρά το γεγονός πως δεν πήρε μέρος στο FP1. Δεύτερος στην κατάταξη ήταν ο teammate του, Όσκαρ Πιάστρι, ο οποίος ήταν ένα δέκατο του δευτερολέπτου πιο αργός από τον Νόρις.

Ο Μαξ Φερστάπεν βρέθηκε στην 3η θέση, όμως η διαφορά του από την κορυφή ήταν απογοητευτική. Ο Ολλανδός ήταν 0,318 μακριά από τον Νόρις, κάνοντας μάλιστα προσπάθεια πιο αργά από τον Βρετανό. Εντυπωσιακός ήταν ο Λανς Στρολ της Aston Martin, o οποίος κατέλαβε την 4η θέση έχοντας εξαιρετικό ρυθμό.

Η Ferrari αντέδρασε στο FP2

O Σαρλ Λεκλέρ με την αναβαθμισμένη SF-25 πήρε την 5η θέση και ήταν μπροστά από τον Τζορτζ Ράσελ της Mercedes-AMG F1. O Γιούκι Τσουνόντα ήταν στην 7η θέση, ενώ εντυπωσιακός για μία ακόμη φορά ήταν ο Γκάμπριελ Μπορτολέτο της Sauber με την 8η θέση κάνοντας εξαιρετικό γύρο.

Την πρώτη 10άδα συμπλήρωσαν οι Φερνάντο Αλόνσο με Aston Martin και Λιούις Χάμιλτον με Ferrari. O Βρετανός πολυπρωταθλητής είχε και πάλι προβληματική περίοδο δοκιμών, μιας και αντιμετώπισε αρκετά θέματα με τον κινητήρα του.

Η δράση συνεχίζεται το Σάββατο στις 13:30 με την τρίτη και τελευταία περίοδο ελεύθερων δοκιμών της Formula 1 στο GP Αυστρίας.
