F1 - Canada: Norris fastest in FP3, derby expected in qualifying
McLaren Racing's Lando Norris was the fastest driver in the third and final session of Formula 1 free practice at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The action at the Canadian Grand Prix for the Formula 1 world championship continued with FP3. Drivers and teams had just one hour to make their final preparations in view of the battle for pole position.
As was the case in both sessions on Friday, today we also saw the appearance of the red flag.
Battle for four
The fastest driver in FP3 was McLaren Racing's Lando Norris. The Briton on the soft tires recorded a time of 1:11.799 but did not show the confidence he would have liked to have with the MCL39. In second place was Charles Leclerc of Scuderia Ferrari, with the Monegasque just 78 milliseconds behind the Briton.
Third was George Russell of Mercedes-AMG, who did not set a clean lap on the second set of soft tyres, but his gap to the leader was 0.151 seconds. Lewis Hamilton made two mistakes on his fastest lap but was just 0.251 seconds off the fastest time.
Max Verstappen was less than three tenths off the lead, which brings McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes very close ahead of the pole position battle.
Aston Martin leads the midfield
Fernando Alonso was in sixth place with an impressive lap for Aston Martin and overtook Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri. The top 10 was completed by the always consistent and fast Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon of Williams.
Piastri hits the "wall of champions"
With 20 minutes left in FP3, the red flag made its appearance and interrupted the flow of the proceedings. The reason was Oscar Piastri, who hit the wall of champions and damaged the rear right of his car.
And now qualifying
The action continues tonight at 23:00 with the qualifying tests that will decide the starting order for the race in Montreal.

Ο Λάντο Νόρις της McLaren Racing ήταν ο ταχύτερος οδηγός στην τρίτη και τελευταία περίοδο ελεύθερων δοκιμών της Formula 1 στο Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
H δράση στο Grand Prix Καναδά για το παγκόσμιο πρωτάθλημα της Formula 1 συνεχίστηκε με το FP3. Οδηγοί και ομάδες είχαν μόλις μία ώρα στη διάθεσή τους για να κάνουν τις τελικές τους προετοιμασίες ενόψει της μάχης για την pole position.
Όπως έγινε και στις δύο περιόδους της Παρασκευής έτσι και σήμερα είδαμε την εμφάνιση της κόκκινης σημαίας.
Μάχη για τέσσερις
Ταχύτερος οδηγός στο FP3 ήταν ο Λάντο Νόρις της McLaren Racing. O Βρετανός με τη μαλακή γόμα ελαστικών σημείωσε το 1:11,799 όμως δεν έδειξε τη σιγουριά που θα ήθελε να είχε με την MCL39. Στη 2η θέση ήταν ο Σαρλ Λεκλέρ της Scuderia Ferrari, με τον Μονεγάσκο να είναι μόλις 78 χιλιοστά του δευτερολέπτου μακριά από τον Βρετανό.
Τρίτος ήταν ο Τζορτζ Ράσελ της Mercedes-AMG, o οποίος δεν έκανε καθαρό γύρο με το δεύτερο σετ μαλακής γόμας, όμως η διαφορά του από την κορυφή ήταν 0,151 δλ. Ο Λιούις Χάμιλτον έκανε δύο λάθη στον ταχύτερο γύρο του όμως ήταν μόλις 0,251 δλ μακριά από τον ταχύτερο χρόνο.
Ο Μαξ Φερστάπεν ήταν κάτω από τρία δέκατα μακριά από την κορυφή, κάτι που φέρνει τις McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull και Mercedes πολύ κοντά πριν τη μάχη της pole position.
Η Aston Martin ηγείται του midfield
O Φερναντο Αλόνσο ήταν στην 6η θέση με έναν εντυπωσιακό γύρο για την Aston Martin και ξεπέρασε τους Κίμι Αντονέλι και Όσκαρ Πιάστρι. Την πρώτη 10άδα συμπλήρωσαν οι πάντα σταθεροί και γρήγοροι Κάρλος Σάινθ και Άλεξ Άλμπον της Williams.
Ο Πιάστρι χτύπησε στον «τοίχο των πρωταθλητών»
Με τη συμπλήρωση 20 λεπτών στο FP3 η κόκκινη σημαία έκανε την εμφάνισή της και διέκοψε τη ροή της διαδικασίας. Ο λόγος ήταν ο Όσκαρ Πιάστρι, ο οποίος χτύπησε στον τοίχο των πρωταθλητών και πλήγωσε πίσω δεξιά το μονοθέσιό του.
Και τώρα κατατακτήριες
Η δράση συνεχίζεται απόψε στις 23:00 με τις κατατακτήριες δοκιμές που θα κρίνουν τη σειρά εκκίνησης του αγώνα στο Μοντρεάλ.
