After a match lasting one hour and 45 minutes, Stefanos Tsitsipas got the victory over Roberto Carbayes Baena 7-5, 6-3 and qualified for the eight round of the Barcelona Open. With this victory, the Greek reached eight consecutive victories, after his huge run in the Monte Carlo tournament.

Full set and "gift" of Carbayes Baena at the end

Stefanos Tsitsipas started the match very strongly, as in the first service game of Karbayes Baena he found four break opportunities. The Spaniard stood his ground and held his serve for 1-1. In fact, the 31-year-old managed to break his opponent's serve first at the first break point that appeared to him in the set (3-2), but Tsitsipas responded immediately to bring the balance back to the set (3-3).

The two tennis players refused to give another break chance and came within one breath of the tie-break. The Greek No. 7 in the world in the 12th game found himself with a triple break point. Karbayes Baena erased the first, but then with a double fault gave the first set uncut to the Greek tennis player with 7-5.

Efficiency on break points made the difference

The second set started with Carbayes Baena trying to get a reaction, after losing the first set. The Spaniard immediately reached four break points, but Tsitsipas with very correct choices erased them and managed to hold his serve for 1-0 in the set.

The two tennis players then held his serve with Stefanos Tsitsipas going to change sides with the lead (3-2). At that point, the Greek made his own... attack and after two lost break points he "broke" his opponent's serve for 4-2. The 25-year-old, in fact, made the hold in the 7th game for 5-2, effectively dealing with another break point from the Spaniard.

All Carbayes Baena managed to do was to reduce to 5-3 and in the 9th game to lose the set with 6-3 and at the same time the qualification to the quarter-finals of the tournament. In the eight round of the Barcelona Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas will face the Argentinian Facundo Dias Acosta, who earlier prevailed over Fabian Marozan 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Μετά από έναν αγώνα διάρκειας μίας ώρα και 45 λεπτών ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς πήρε τη νίκη επί του Ρομπέρτο Καρμπάγιες Μπαένα με 7-5, 6-3 και προκρίθηκε στην οκτάδα του Barcelona Open. Με αυτή τη νίκη ο Έλληνας έφτασε τις οκτώ σερί νίκες, μετά την τεράστια πορεία του στο τουρνουά του Μόντε Κάρλο.

Γεμάτο σετ και «δώρο» του Καρμπάγιες Μπαένα στο τέλος

Ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς ξεκίνησε πολύ δυναμικά την αναμέτρηση, καθώς στο πρώτο service game του Καρμπάγιες Μπαένα βρήκε τέσσερις ευκαιρίες για break. Ο Ισπανός στάθηκε στο ύψος του και κράτησε το σερβίς του για το 1-1. Μάλιστα, ο 31χρονος κατάφερε να... σπάσει πρώτος το σερβίς του αντιπάλου του στο πρώτο break point που του εμφανίστηκε στο σετ (3-2), αλλά ο Τσιτσιπάς απάντησε άμεσα για να φέρει τις ισορροπίες ξανά στο σετ (3-3).

Οι δύο τενίστες αρνήθηκαν να δώσουν άλλη ευκαιρία για break και έφτασαν μία ανάσα από το tie-break. O Έλληνας Νο.7 του κόσμου στο 12ο game βρέθηκε με τριπλό break point. Ο Καρμπάγιες Μπαένα έσβησε το πρώτο, αλλά στη συνέχεια με διπλό λάθος προσέφερε άκοπα το πρώτο σετ στον Έλληνα τενίστα με 7-5.

Η αποτελεσματικότητα στα break points έκανε τη διαφορά

Το δεύτερο σετ ξεκίνησε με τον Καρμπάγιες Μπαένα να προσπαθεί να βγάλει αντίδραση, μετά το πρώτο χαμένο σετ. Ο Ισπανός έφτασε άμεσα σε τέσσερα break points, όμως ο Τσιτσιπάς με πολύ σωστές επιλογές τα έσβησε και κατάφερε να κρατήσει το σερβίς του για το 1-0 στο σετ.

Οι δύο τενίστες κράτησαν το σέρβις του στη συνέχεια με τον Στέφανο Τσιτσιπά να πηγαίνει στην αλλαγή πλευράς με το προβάδισμα (3-2). Σε εκείνο το σημείο, ο Έλληνας πραγματοποίησε τη δική του... επίθεση και μετά από δύο χαμένα break points «έσπασε» το σερβίς του αντιπάλου του για το 4-2. Ο 25χρονος, μάλιστα, έκανε το hold στο 7ο game για το 5-2, αντιμετωπίζοντας άρτια ακόμη ένα break point του Ισπανού.

Ο Καρμπάγιες Μπαένα το μόνο που κατάφερε να κάνει ήταν να μειώσει σε 5-3 και στο 9ο game να χάσει το σετ με 6-3 και συνάμα την πρόκριση στην προημιτελικά του τουρνουά. Στην οκτάδα του Barcelona Open ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς θ' αντιμετωπίσει τον Αργεντινό Φακούντο Ντίας Ακόστα, ο οποίος επικράτησε νωρίτερα του Φαμπιάν Μαροζάν με 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
