Siner - Tsitsipas 2-0: Without break points and... ideas, Stefanos started with the left (vid)
Stefanos Tsitsipas fell to an outstanding Yannick Shiner and lost 6-4, 6-4 in his first ATP Finals group stage match.
Stefanos Tsitsipas had no solutions against Yannick Siner's excellent serve and lost 2-0 sets (6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 25 minutes) in the premiere of the ATP Finals.
The Italian had an amazing day on the first serve, something the Greek tennis player did not have, with Tsitsipas not using his own "weapons" enough and playing on the baseline, a game that suits Shiner perfectly.
At the same time, Stefanos did not find a single (!) break point in the match, so Shiner took the first step to qualify for the semi-finals.
Now things are very difficult for Tsitsipas, since he will have to beat Rooney and probably Djokovic as well...
Stefanos on a fast court had only 61% first serve and only 16 winners compared to 21 of the Italian who also had 9 aces.
A break was all the difference in favor of Shiner in the first set
Stefanos started the match with a love game, as did Shiner, to make it 2-1 for Tsitsipas with an ace, which was confirmed by the challenge he made in a bad decision by a linesman.
Shiner's first serve easily tied the game at 2-2, as Tsitsipas had no returns. The Italian reached the first break point of the match from Tsitsipas' effortlessness and succeeded, after Tsitsipas' backhand then stayed in the net.
Both held serve easily, with Stefanos serving to stay in the match at 3-5, which he did with a stunning corner kick.
However, he had to find a break after Sinner served for the set. He managed to erase the Italian's set point, but not the second one since his return stayed in the net.
Tsitsipas closed the set with less than 60% first serve, 9 winners and 8 effortless, compared to 13 winners and 10 effortless of his opponent.
Damage in the first game of the second set and defeat for Tsitsipas
In the first game of the second set, Tsitsipas served excellently on the first serve, but Shiner's returns were... medicine. He had three chances to end the game, but not only did Stefanos fail to do so, he also received a break with an easy mistake of his own.
With a terrible lob and love game, the Italian made it 2-0 and reached a triple break point from consecutive mistakes by the Greek tennis player, who if he accepted a second break, he would not have come back. But he woke up, found first serve and two aces, to reduce to 2-1 and take a deep breath.
Nothing changed in the next two games, with Stefanos unable to find a break point in the match. At 4-2 he reduced with a love game in which he had two aces, but he desperately needed to find a break point in the match.
It was down to 5-4, but Sinner closed out the game with another excellent service game.

Ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς έπεσε πάνω σε έναν εξαιρετικό Γιάνικ Σίνερ και ηττήθηκε με 6-4, 6-4 στον πρώτο του αγώνα για την φάση των ομίλων του ATP Finals.
O Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς δεν είχε λύσεις απέναντι στο εξαιρετικό σερβίς του Γιάνικ Σίνερ και έχασε με 2-0 σετ (6-4, 6-4 σε μία ώρα και 25 λεπτά) στην πρεμιέρα του ATP Finals.
Ο Ιταλός ήταν σε εκπληκτική μέρα στο πρώτο σερβίς, κάτι που δεν είχε ο Ελληνας τενίστας, με τον Τσιτσιπά να μην χρησιμοποιεί αρκετά τα δικά του «όπλα» και να παίζει στην baseline, παιχνίδι που ταιριάζει απόλυτα στον Σίνερ.
Την ίδια στιγμή, ο Στέφανος δεν βρήκε ούτε ένα (!) break point στο ματς κι έτσι ο Σίνερ έκανε το πρώτο βήμα για πρόκριση στα ημιτελικά.
Πλέον για τον Τσιτσιπά τα πράγματα είναι πολύ δύσκολα, αφού θα πρέπει να κερδίσει τον Ρούνε και πιθανότατα και τον Τζόκοβιτς...

Ενα break όλη η διαφορά υπέρ του Σίνερ στο πρώτο σετ
Με love game άρχισε το ματς ο Στέφανος, όπως και ο Σίνερ, για να γίνει το 2-1 για τον Τσιτσιπά με άσο, τον οποίο επιβεβαίωσε το challenge που έκανε σε κακή απόφαση του ενός επόπτη γραμμών.
Το πρώτο σερβίς του Σίνερ έφερε εύκολα το 2-2, αφού ο Τσιτσιπάς δεν είχε επιστροφές. Ο Ιταλός έφτασε στο πρώτο break point στο ματς από αβίαστο του Τσιτσιπά και το πέτυχε, αφού στη συνέχεια το backhand του Τσιτσιπά έμεινε στο φιλέ.
Αμφότεροι κράτησαν το σερβίς τους εύκολα, με τον Στέφανο να σερβίρει για να μείνει στο ματς, στο 3-5, κάτι που κατάφερε με ένα εκπληκτικό χτύπημα από γωνία.
Ωστόσο, έπρεπε να βρει break αφού σέρβιρε για το σετ ο Σίνερ. Κατάφερε να σβήσει set point του Ιταλού, όχι όμως και το δεύτερο αφού η επιστροφή του έμεινε στο φιλέ.
Ο Τσιτσιπάς έκλεισε το σετ με κάτω από 60% σε πρώτο σερβίς, 9 winners και 8 αβίαστα, έναντι 13 winners και 10 αβίαστων του αντιπάλου του.
Ζημιά στο πρώτο game του δεύτερου σετ και ήττα για Τσιτσιπά
Στο πρώτο game του δεύτερου σετ, ο Τσιτσιπάς σέρβιρε εξαιρετικά στο πρώτο σερβίς, όμως οι επιστροφές του Σίνερ ήταν… φαρμάκι. Τρεις ευκαιρίες είχε να τελειώσει το game, αλλά όχι μόνο δεν το κατάφερε ο Στέφανος, αλλά δέχτηκε και break με εύκολο λάθος δικό του.
Με τρομερή λόμπα και love game ο Ιταλός έκανε το 2-0 και έφτασε σε τριπλό break point από συνεχόμενα λάθη του Ελληνα τενίστα, ο οποίος αν δεχόταν δεύτερο break δεν θα είχε επιστροφή. Ξύπνησε όμως, βρήκε πρώτα σερβίς και δύο άσους, για να μειώσει σε 2-1 και να πάρει μια βαθιά ανάσα.
Δεν άλλαξε κάτι στα επόμενα δύο game, με τον Στέφανο να μην μπορεί να βρει στο ματς ένα break point. Στο 4-2 μείωσε με love game στο οποίο είχε δύο άσους, αλλά έπρεπε απεγνωσμένα να βρει break point στο ματς.
Μείωσε σε 5-4, αλλά ο Σίνερ τελείωσε το παιχνίδι με ένα ακόμη εξαιρετικό service game.
