With the right Medvedev and Siner - The Italian made it to the ATP Finals
The two finalists from Beijing started well in Shanghai (ATP 1000).
Final loser Daniil Medvedev (No.3) beat Chile's Cristian Garin (No.98) 6-3, 6-3 to reach 60 wins this season, trailing Carlos Alcarat who tops the list with 61.
The next opponent of the 27-year-old Russian, who was the last winner of the event in 2019, is American Seb Korda.
The champion Shiner (No.4), for his part, got a relatively difficult qualification against the American Marcos Giron (No.80) with 7-6(7), 6-2 in his debut at the Chinese Masters.
The 22-year-old Italian, in fact, came back from 1-4 in the first set and from 3-6 in the tiebreak and made it 1-0 in 69 minutes, erasing a total of four set points. Then things became simpler and thus he appeared consistent in the appointment with Sebastian Baez in the phase of "32".
Shiner reached 50 wins this season and officially booked a place for the ATP Finals, where Djokovic, Alkarath and Medvedev have already passed. Rublev and Tsitsipas are, for now, next on the list.
Tommy Paul also got the ticket for the third round, keeping the hopes of qualifying in Turin alive. The 26-year-old American, No.12 in the world, eliminated Sebastian Ofner 6-3, 6-0 and awaits the winner of the Fish-Davidovic match.

Καλά ξεκίνησαν την πορεία τους στη Σανγκάη (ATP 1000) οι δύο φιναλίστ του Πεκίνου.
Ο ηττημένος του τελικού Ντανίλ Μεντβέντεφ (Νο.3) επικράτησε του Χιλιανού Κριστιάν Γκαρίν (Νο.98) με 6-3, 6-3 και έφτασε τις 60 νίκες τη φετινή σεζόν, ακολουθώντας τον Κάρλος Αλκαράθ που είναι πρώτος στη λίστα με 61.
Ο επόμενος αντίπαλος του 27χρονου Ρώσου, που ήταν ο τελευταίος νικητής της διοργάνωσης το 2019, είναι ο Αμερικανός Σεμπ Κόρντα.
Ο πρωταθλητής Σίνερ (Νο.4), από την πλευρά του, πήρε σχετικά δύσκολη πρόκριση σε βάρος του Αμερικανού Μάρκος Γκιρόν (Νο.80) με 7-6(7), 6-2 στο ντεμπούτο του στο κινεζικό Masters.
Ο 22χρονος Ιταλός, μάλιστα, επέστρεψε από το 1-4 στο πρώτο σετ και από το 3-6 στο τάι μπρέικ και έκανε το 1-0 σε 69 λεπτά, σβήνοντας συνολικά τέσσερα σετ πόιντ. Στη συνέχεια τα πράγματα έγιναν πιο απλά και έτσι φάνηκε συνεπής στο ραντεβού με τον Σεμπαστιάν Μπάες στη φάση των «32».
O Σίνερ έφτασε τις 50 νίκες τη φετινή σεζόν και έκλεισε επίσημα θέση για το ATP Finals, όπου έχουν ήδη περάσει οι Τζόκοβιτς, Αλκαράθ και Μεντβέντεφ. Ρούμπλεφ και Τσιτσιπάς είναι, για την ώρα, οι επόμενοι στη λίστα.
Το εισιτήριο για τον τρίτο γύρο πήρε και ο Τόμι Πολ, διατηρώντας τις ελπίδες πρόκρισης στο Τορίνο. O 26χρονος Αμερικανός, Νο.12 στον κόσμο, απέκλεισε με 6-3, 6-0 τον Σεμπάστιαν Όφνερ και περιμένει τον νικητή του αγώνα Φις-Νταβίντοβιτς.
