Sakkari - Kotsiuk 1-2: Early elimination at Wimbledon as well
Sakkari started the match against Ukraine's Marta Kostiuk perfectly, but after the second interruption due to rain she appeared unrecognizable to lose 6-0, 5-7, 2-6 and with it the elimination from the 1st round in Wimbledon
After Roland Garros, Maria Sakkari was also eliminated in the 1st round at Wimbledon. In a match interrupted twice by rain, Sakkari was defeated by Ukraine's Marta Kostiuk 6-0, 5-7, 2-6 to face elimination.
Sakkari's nine unforced errors in the 1st set, ended the game with 47(!) and that was the key factor that changed the game.

Start with bagel set and break 50 minutes
Sakkari entered the match strongly, having 5/5 on the 1st serve she won the opening game. Immediately after, she led 15-40 and on the 2nd chance and after the double fault from Kostiuk, she made the break for 2-0.
The first difficult moment for Sakkari came in the 3rd game. With two consecutive errors, Kostiuk took the lead with 0-40, but the Greek player with five points in a row made it 3-0.
And it didn't stop there. In the 4th game Sakkari found new break opportunities, she succeeded with the first for 4-0. The Greek player reached 5-0 without any particular difficulties.
In the 6th game, Sakkari reached 30-40 and at set point, Kostiuk extinguished it, so that the rain started and the players left for the locker room. After about 50 minutes, the players returned with sun to court 2, for the continuation of the match. Sakkari created two advantages in the 2nd as well, with the 6th winner they reached 6-0 in 25 minutes.
This was the 2nd bagel set for Sakkari in the season. She was up 6-0 against Shelby Rogers in the 3rd set at Indian Wells in March.
Second stoppage, 25 unforced errors and 1-1
Sakkari started the 2nd set with a lone game, with Kostiuk stopping her streak in the 8th game overall, tying the game at 1-1. Sakkari took a 2-1 lead, to catch a new blow and there was a new stoppage of about 30 minutes.
With the resumption of the match, Kostiuk appeared more determined, tied at 2-2 and then, achieving her first break in the match, went ahead with 3-2. Faced with the danger of changing the shape of the match, Sakkari reacted, responding with her 4th break.
In a marathon 7th game, Sakkari "erased" four break points, but she did not avoid it in the 5th chance of the Ukrainian, who regained the lead 4-3 and by serving easily reached 5-3.
Sakkari, comfortably holding her serve, reduced it to 5-4, looking for the 5th break to stay in the set and succeeded with Kostiuk losing the baseline at 15-40 and making it 5-5.
But Sakkari made many mistakes in the 2nd set, Kostiuk took advantage of it, achieving a new break for the new lead with 6-5. The Ukrainian serving reached a double set point and won it 7-5.
Disappointment also brought exclusion
The 3rd set started with the players holding their serve for 1-1, but Kostiuk had a better mentality. With individual 8-1 in the points, she achieved the break for 2-1 and with a love game she made it 3-1. Sakkari found herself in an even more difficult position, with Kostiuk escaping with a new break with 4-1.
In the 6th game, Sakkari had two opportunities to achieve a break, but she threw them away with effortless mistakes, causing frustration. Kostiuk got out of danger, took a 5-1 lead and, relieved of the stress, finished the set 6-2 and secured the qualification.

Μετά το Roland Garros η Μαρία Σάκκαρη γνώρισε τον αποκλεισμό και στον 1ο γύρο στο Wimbledon. Σε ένα παιχνίδι που διεκόπη δύο φορές εξ αιτίας της βροχής, η Σάκκκαρη ηττήθηκε από την Ουκρανή, Μάρτα Κόστιουκ με 6-0, 5-7, 2-6 γνωρίζοντας τον αποκλεισμό.
Η Σάκκαρη των εννέα αβίαστων λαθών στο 1ο σετ, τελείωσε το παιχνίδι με 47(!) και αυτός ήταν ο βασικός παράγοντας που άλλαξε το παιχνίδι.

Ξεκίνημα με bagel set και διακοπή 50 λεπτών
Η Σάκκαρη μπήκε δυναμικά στον αγώνα, έχοντας 5/5 στο 1ο σερβίς κατέκτησε το εναρκτήριο γκέιμ. Αμέσως μετά προηγήθηκε με 15-40 και στη 2η ευκαιρία και μετά το διπλό λάθος από την Κόστιουκ, έκανε το break για το 2-0.
Η πρώτη δύσκολη στιγμή για τη Σάκκαρη ήρθε στο 3ο γκέιμ. Με δύο διαδοχικά λάθη της η Κόστιουκ προηγήθηκε με 0-40, όμως η Ελληνίδα παίκτρια με πέντε σερί πόντους έκανε το 3-0.
Και δεν σταμάτησε εκεί. Στο 4ο γκέιμ η Σάκκαρη βρήκε νέες ευκαιρίες για break, το πέτυχε με την πρώτη για το 4-0. Η Ελληνίδα παίκτρια χωρίς ιδιαίτερες δυσκολίες έφθασε στο 5-0.
Στο 6ο game η Σάκκαρη έφθασε στο 30-40 και σε set point, η Κόστιουκ το έσβησε, για να αρχίσει η βροχή και οι παίκτριες να φύγουν για τα αποδυτήρια. Έπειτα από 50 περίπου λεπτά οι παίκτριες επέστρεψαν με ήλιο στο κορτ 2, για τη συνέχεια του αγώνα. Η Σάκκαρη δημιούργησε δύο αβαντάζ και στο 2ο, με τον 6ο winner έφθασε στο 6-0 σε 25 αγωνιστικά λεπτά.
Αυτό ήταν το 2ο bagel set για τη Σάκκαρη μέσα στη σεζόν. Είχε προηγηθεί το 6-0 κόντρα στη Σέλμπι Ρότζερς στο 3ο σετ στο Indian Wells τον Μάρτιο.
Δεύτερη διακοπή, 25 αβίαστα λάθη και 1-1
Η Σάκκαρη άρχισε με loνe game το 2ο σετ, με την Κόστιουκ να σταματά το σερί της στο 8ο συνολικά γκέιμ, ισοφαρίζοντας σε 1-1. Η Σάκκαρη προηγήθηκε 2-1, για να πιάσει νέα μπόρα και να υπάρξει νέα διακοπή 30 περίπου λεπτών.
Με τη νέα επανέναρξη του αγώνα η Κόστιουκ εμφανίστηκε πιο αποφασισμένη, ισοφάρισε σε 2-2 και έπειτα πετυχαίνοντας το πρώτο της break στον αγώνα προσπέρασε με 3-2. Μπροστά στον κίνδυνο να αλλάξει η μορφή του αγώνα, η Σάκκαρη έβγαλε αντίδραση, απαντώντας με το 4ο δικό της break.
Σε ένα μαραθώνιο 7ο γκέιμ η Σάκκαρη «έσβησε» τέσσερα break points, όμως δεν το απέφυγε στην 5η ευκαιρία της Ουκρανής, η οποία ανέκτησε το προβάδισμα 4-3 και σερβίροντας έφθασε με ευκολία στο 5-3.
Η Σάκκαρη διατηρώντας με άνεση το σερβίς της μείωσε σε 5-4, αναζητώντας το 5ο break για να μείνει στο σετ και το πέτυχε με την Κόστιουκ να χάνει τη βασική γραμμή στο 15-40 και να γίνεται το 5-5.
Όμως η Σάκκαρη στο 2ο σετ έκανε πολλά λάθη, η Κόστιουκ το εκμεταλλεύτηκε, πετυχαίνοντας νέο break για το νέο προβάδισμα με 6-5. Η Ουκρανή σερβίροντας έφθασε σε διπλό set point και το κατέκτησε με 7-5.
Η απογοήτευση έφερε και τον αποκλεισμό
Το 3ο σετ άρχισε με τις παίκτριες να διατηρούν το σερβίς τους για το 1-1, όμως η Κόστιουκ είχε καλύτερη ψυχολογία. Με επιμέρους 8-1 στους πόντους πέτυχε το break για το 2-1 και με love game έκανε το 3-1.Η Σάκκαρη βρέθηκε σε ακόμα πιο δύσκολη θέση, με την Κόστιουκ με νέο break να ξεφεύγει με 4-1.
Στο 6ο game η Σάκκαρη είχε τις δύο ευκαιρίες για να πετύχει break, όμως τις πέταξε με αβίαστα λάθη, βγάζοντας απογοήτευση. Η Κόστιουκ βγήκε από τον κίνδυνο, προηγήθηκε με 5-1 και απελευθερωμένη από το άγχος τελείωσε το σετ με 6-2 και εξασφαλίζοντας την πρόκριση.
