F1 - Verstappen sees Aston Martin as a threat

The Dutch world champion acknowledged the fact that the competition is approaching and soon Red Bull may not be "playing" alone for victories.

At the Formula 1 race in Montreal, Aston Martin presented a very important package of upgrades for its car. The AMR23 got new sidepods and floor and its performance was greatly improved.

Spain's result looks like it was just a bad bracket for the Silverstone team. Fernando Alonso finished second in Canada and returned to the podium, not even letting Max Verstappen clear.

The Dutchman referred to the now existing threat from Aston Martin: “For my part I had a problem with the tire temperatures, as I have mentioned before. That didn't help us much. But I also know that with their Aston Martin upgrades they improved. It is reasonable. They certainly came close to us in terms of performance."

Despite the fact that Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were quite close to him, Verstappen mentioned the ways in which he had to manage his race.

"You always have to be on guard and check if the others are approaching you or not. What do I need to do to stay ahead, because the others had a good pace. In the first few laps on the hard tire I had a good pace but then I started to struggle. You don't have time to relax and the tires were too cold. One mistake can cost you a lot of time or send you into the wall," said the Red Bull Racing driver.

Ο Ολλανδός παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής αναγνώρισε το γεγονός πως ο ανταγωνισμός πλησιάζει και σύντομα η Red Bull μπορεί να μην «παίζει» μόνη της για νίκες.

Στον αγώνα της Formula 1 στο Μοντρεάλ, η Aston Martin παρουσίασε ένα πολύ σημαντικό πακέτο αναβαθμίσεων για το μονοθέσιό της. Η AMR23 απέκτησε νέα sidepods και δάπεδο και η απόδοσή της βελτιώθηκε σημαντικά.

Το αποτέλεσμα της Ισπανίας φαίνεται πως ήταν απλά μια κακή παρένθεση για την ομάδα του Σίλβερστον. Ο Φερνάντο Αλόνσο τερμάτισε στη δεύτερη θέση στον Καναδά και επέστρεψε στο βάθρο, χωρίς μάλιστα να αφήσει τον Μαξ Φερστάπεν να απομακρυνθεί.

Ο Ολλανδός αναφέρθηκε στην υπαρκτή πλέον απειλή της Aston Martin: «Από τη μεριά μου είχα πρόβλημα με τις θερμοκρασίες των ελαστικών, όπως έχω αναφέρει ξανά. Δεν μας βοήθησε ιδιαίτερα αυτό. Όμως ξέρω επίσης πως με τις αναβαθμίσεις τους στην Aston Martin βελτιώθηκαν. Είναι λογικό. Σίγουρα μας πλησίασαν σε απόδοση».

Παρά το γεγονός πως ήταν αρκετά κοντά του οι Φερνάντο Αλόνσο και Λιούις Χάμιλτον, ο Φερστάπεν ανέφερε τους τρόπους με τους οποίους έπρεπε να διαχειριστή τον αγώνα του.

«Πάντα πρέπει να είσαι σε επιφυλακή και να ελέγχεις αν σε πλησιάζουν οι υπόλοιποι ή όχι. Τι χρειάζεται να κάνω για να μείνω μπροστά, γιατί οι υπόλοιποι είχαν καλό ρυθμό. Στους πρώτους γύρους με τη σκληρή γόμα είχα καλό ρυθμό αλλά μετά άρχισα να δυσκολεύομαι. Δεν έχεις χρόνο να χαλαρώσεις και τα ελαστικά ήταν πολύ κρύα. Ένα λάθος μπορεί να σου κοστίσει πάρα πολύ χρόνο ή να σε στείλει στον τοίχο», ανέφερε ο οδηγός της Red Bull Racing.
