Mubadala: Champion in Abu Dhabi is Tsitsipas (vid)
Stefanos Tsitsipas won his 3rd match at the Mubadala Tennis World Championship exhibition tournament held in Abu Dhabi by beating defending champion Andrey Rublev 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the final.
With this victory, the Greek tennis player got an uncharacteristic revenge against Rublev for his loss at the ATP Finals in Turin about a month ago, in the group stage, a defeat that denied the world No. 4 a place in the semifinals of the event.
Tsitsipas, who in 2019 had lost (in his debut) the title to Rafa Nadal, started the final impressively by winning the first 4 games of the match having 100% won points on the 1st service (8/8) taking advantage of 2 out of 3 break opportunities.
With his returns at an excellent 50%, but also his service remaining at high levels, Tsitsipas made the set his own in just over half an hour.
The only moment when Rublev threatened Tsitsipas' service, in the 1st set, was in the 6th game in which he reached two break-points with the Greek tennis player however erasing them and with a difficult hold to reach 5-1.
A 1st set which Tsitsipas completed with 65% in the past first serves, winning 77% of the points (17/22), but also with 42% in the 2nd (5/12), while at the same time he had 2/3 break- points.
In the 2nd leg of the final, Rublev started to feel more...comfortable from the service position, starting the set with two love games (2-2), while on the other hand, Tsitsipas started to face problems from the Russian's returns.
Rublev continued to find easy points on his serve, with 63% of 1st serve points won in the 1st set reaching 92% with Tsitsipas' returns dropping from 46% to 13%!
The Russian reached 5-4 with the Greek tennis player serving to stay in the set, which he failed to do by making two tragic consecutive errors at the net which cost him the set and brought Rublev to 1-1 and the final at decider.
In the 3rd set, Tsitsipas will start with an impressive break, coming back from 15/40, making it 1-0, while with an easy hold he then took the 2nd game and at the same time a significant lead for the victory (2-0).
The...cherry for the title came in the very next game with Tsitsipas who reminded of the 1st set, reaching a new break (3-0) and immediately after with another easy hold he made it 4-0, despite the fact that up to that point in the set, the No. 4 in the world did not easily find the first serve (40%), essentially playing with the 2nd in which he had not lost a point (100%).
Rublev, as in the 1st set, lost in the 5th game (4-1), but this was not enough to change the balance in the decider with Tsitsipas easily closing the game, winning the title in Abu Dhabi for the 1st time in his career in his 2nd participation in the event.

Ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς κέρδισε και στο 3ο παιχνίδι του στο τουρνουά επίδειξης Mubadala Tennis World Championship που διεξήχθη στο Άμπου Ντάμπι επικρατώντας στον τελικό του κατόχου του τίτλου Αντρέι Ρούμπλεφ με 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Με τη νίκη αυτή ο Έλληνας τενίστας πήρε μια άτυπη ρεβάνς από τον Ρούμπλεφ για την ήττα του στα ATP Finals στο Τορίνο πριν από περίπου ένα μήνα, στη φάση των ομίλων μια ήττα που στέρησε από τον Νο4 του κόσμου την πρόκριση στα ημιτελικά της διοργάνωσης.
Ο Τσιτσιπάς, ο οποίος το 2019 είχε χάσει (στο ντεμπούτο του) τον τίτλο από τον Ράφα Ναδάλ ξεκίνησε εντυπωσιακά τον τελικό κατακτώντας τα πρώτα 4 games του αγώνα έχοντας 100% κερδισμένους πόντους στο 1ο service (8/8) εκμεταλλευόμενος τις 2 από τις 3 ευκαιρίες για break.
Με τις επιστροφές του να είναι στο εξαιρετικό 50%, αλλά και το service του να παραμένει σε υψηλά επίπεδα ο Τστιτσιπάς έκανε δικό του το set σε κάτι περισσότερο από μισή ώρα.
Η μοναδική στιγμή που ο Ρούμπλεφ απείλησε το service του Τσιτσιπά, στο 1o set, ήταν στο 6ο game στο οποίο έφτασε σε δύο break-points με τον Έλληνα τενίστα ωστόσο να τα σβήνει και μ’ ένα δύσκολο hold να φτάνει στο 5-1.
Ένα 1ο set το οποίο ο Τσιτσιπάς το ολοκλήρωσε με 65% στα περασμένα πρώτα service, κερδίζοντας το 77% των πόντων (17/22), αλλά και με 42% στο 2ο (5/12), ενώ παράλληλα είχε 2/3 break-points.
Στο 2ο σκέλος του τελικού ο Ρούμπλεφ άρχισε να αισθάνεται πιο…βολικά από τη θέση του service ξεκινώντας το set με δύο love games (2-2), ενώ από την άλλη ο Τσιτσιπάς είχε αρχίσει να αντιμετωπίζει προβλήματα από τις επιστροφές του Ρώσου.
Ρούμπλεφ συνέχισε να βρίσκει εύκολους πόντους από το service του, με το 63% των κερδισμένων πόντων στο 1ο service στο 1ο set να έχει φτάσει στο 92% με τις επιστροφές του Τσιτσιπά από το 46% να έχει πέσει στο 13%!
Ο Ρώσος έφτασε στο 5-4 με τον Έλληνα τενίστα να σερβίρει για να μείνει στο set, κάτι που όμως δεν κατάφερε κάνοντας δύο τραγικά συνεχόμενα λάθη πάνω στο φιλέ γεγονός που του κόστισαν το set και έφεραν τον Ρούμπλεφ στο 1-1 και τον τελικό στο decider.
Στο 3ο set ο Τσιτσιπάς θα ξεκινήσει με έναν εντυπωσιακό break επιστρέφοντας μάλιστα από το 15/40, κάνοντας το 1-0, ενώ με ένα εύκολο hold στη συνέχεια πήρε και το 2ο game και παράλληλα σημαντικό προβάδισμα για τη νίκη (2-0).
Το…κερασάκι για τον τίτλο μπήκε στο αμέσως επόμενο game με τον Τσιτσιπά που θύμισε 1ο set, να φτάνει σε νέο break (3-0) και αμέσως μετά με νέο εύκολο hold έκανε το 4-0, παρά το γεγονός ότι μέχρι εκείνο το σημείο στο set ο Νο4 του κόσμου δεν έβρισκε εύκολα πρώτο service (40%) παίζοντας ουσιαστικά με το 2ο στο οποίο δεν είχε χάσει πόντο (100%).
Ο Ρούμπλεφ, όπως και στο 1ο set μείωσε στο 5ο game (4-1) όμως αυτό δεν ήταν αρκετό για να μπορέσει να αλλάξει τις ισορροπίες στο decider με τον Τσιτσιπά να κλείνει το εύκολα το παιχνίδι κατακτώντας τον τίτλο στο Άμπου Ντάμπι για 1η φορά στην καριέρα του στη 2η συμμετοχή του στη διοργάνωση.
