Monaco - Olympiacos 92-72: Disappointing and defeated (video)
With the exception of the first ten minutes, Olympiakos was disappointing and fatally suffered a heavy defeat by Monaco (92-72). A result that adds stress and anxiety to the race for the home advantage in the playoffs.
Olympiakos was present for three seasons at Salle Gaston Medecin (the only exception being the first), resulting in a heavy defeat by Monaco (92-72) in the 31st game of the EuroLeague. The weak link

The statistic that stood out
The 27.5% with which Olympiakos finished from the three-pointer is fictitious. The red and whites improved their percentages when everything was judged, since about half of the last period they counted 5/24 from the periphery. At the same time, Monaco closed the night with 11/21 three-pointers - it was 8/10 in the first half.
The race
Olympiacos started the game in the right way. He pressed the Monaco pilots in the defense, gave balls to Mustafa Fal and somehow he took the lead from an early age. The difference was not safety, but based on the image, George Bartzokas's team seemed ready (mentally and physically) to do the job. The only black spot until the +3 (19-22) of the first period is the fact that the red and whites had given only one team foul - and this on an effort.
The picture of the second period, however, was diametrically opposed. Those who came off the bench were out of the mood, losing successive battles in defense and at the same time controlling the pace. Very quickly, Monaco scored ten unanswered points for +7 (29-22 in 12 '), which grew even more until the break. When Paris Lee, when Dwayne Bacon and when Mike James exposed the Greek defense, now giving Monaco the role of the favorite in the match. With 5/5 three-pointers and 3 steals in the tenth minute (against the 0/5 three-pointers and 5 errors of Olympiacos), Monaco reached +17 (48-31) at halftime. A lead that gave her - for good - the first reason for the victory.
After the halftime break, it seemed like something was changing for the team of George Bartzokas. The 12/18 three-pointers of Monaco against the 5/24 of Olympiakos said everything they needed for the image of the match, with the hosts not letting their foot off the accelerator even for a minute. Somehow they found themselves until +27 (88-61 in 37 '), raising the decibels vertically in the timeout of George Bartzokas.

Με εξαίρεση το πρώτο δεκάλεπτο, ο Ολυμπιακός ήταν απογοητευτικός και μοιραία γνώρισε βαριά ήττα από τη Μονακό (92-72). Αποτέλεσμα που προσθέτει άγχος και αγωνία στην κούρσα για το πλεονέκτημα έδρας στα playoffs.
Ο Ολυμπιακός ήταν ωσεί παρών για τρεις περιόδους στη Salle Gaston Medecin (μοναδική εξαίρεση η πρώτη), με αποτέλεσμα να γνωρίσει βαριά ήττα από τη Μονακό (92-72) στο πλαίσιο της 31ης αγωνιστικής της EuroLeague. Η αμυντική ασυνέπεια στο δεύτερο δεκάλεπτο σε συνδυασμό με τα απογοητευτικά ποσοστά στο τρίποντο έφεραν από νωρίς τους ερυθρόλευκους σε θέση να κυνηγούν μια ανατροπή επικών διαστάσεων.
Αυτή όμως δεν ήρθε, αφού ακόμη κι όταν η διαφορά έπεσε από το -17 στο -10 (στο 23'), η Μονακό αντέδρασε και "καθάρισε" με συνοπτικές διαδικασίες, υποχρεώνοντας τον Γιώργο Μπαρτζώκα και τους παίκτες του να σκέφτονται το παιχνίδι που έπεται, σε δύο βράδια, απέναντι στη Βιλερμπάν.
Ο MVP
Ο Μάικ Τζέιμς έκανε όση δουλειά χρειαζόταν για να πληγώσει ανεπανόρθωτα τον Ολυμπιακό. Βρήκε από νωρίς ρυθμό, έφθειρε τους αντιπάλους του με φάουλ και έδωσε το απαραίτητο θάρρος στους υπόλοιπους της Μονακό. Στα 28'48'' που έμεινε στο παρκέ, ο εκρηκτικός γκαρντ σημείωσε 25 πόντους (με 2/3 δίποντα, 5/7 τρίποντα και 6/7 βολές), προσθέτοντας στην στατιστική 3 ριμπάουντ, 4 ασίστ και 1 λάθος. Μέσα σε όλα, άφησε πίσω τον Δημήτρη Διαμαντίδη στην all-time list με τα εύστοχα τρίποντα στη σύγχρονη ιστορία της διοργάνωσης.
Ο αδύναμος κρίκος
Σε μια βραδιά όπου η συντριπτική πλειοψηφία των παικτών του Ολυμπιακού δεν απέδωσε τα δέοντα, ο Σακίλ ΜακΚίσικ ήταν εκτός ρυθμού και... εαυτού από νωρίς. Μόλις πέρασε στο παρκέ έκανε δύο μαζεμένα λάθη, ακολούθως χρεώθηκε με αντιαθλητικό φάουλ, ενώ -σαν να μην έφτανε αυτό- αποβλήθηκε στο τρίτο δεκάλεπτο, μετά από τεχνική ποινή. Κάπως έτσι, έμεινε στο παρκέ για μόλις 6'10'' δίχως να προσφέρει το παραμικρό.
Το στατιστικό που ξεχώρισε
Το 27.5% με το οποίο τελείωσε από το τρίποντο ο Ολυμπιακός είναι πλασματικό. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι βελτίωσαν τα ποσοστά τους όταν όλα είχαν κριθεί, δεδομένου ότι περίπου στα μισά της τελευταίας περιόδου μετρούσαν 5/24 από την περιφέρεια. Την ίδια ώρα, η Μονακό έκλεινε την βραδιά με 11/21 τρίποντα -είχε 8/10 στο πρώτο μέρος.
Ο αγώνας
Ο Ολυμπιακός ξεκίνησε το παιχνίδι με τον δέοντα τρόπο. Πίεσε στην άμυνα τους χειριστές της Μονακό, έδωσε μπάλες στον Μουσταφά Φαλ και κάπως έτσι πήρε από νωρίς το προβάδισμα. Η διαφορά δεν ήταν ασφαλείας, αλλά βάσει εικόνας η ομάδα του Γιώργου Μπαρτζώκα έδειχνε έτοιμη (πνευματικά και σωματικά) να κάνει τη δουλειά. Μοναδικό μελανό σημείο μέχρι το +3 (19-22) της πρώτης περιόδου το γεγονός πως οι ερυθρόλευκοι είχαν δώσει μόλις ένα ομαδικό φάουλ -κι αυτό πάνω σε προσπάθεια.
Η εικόνα της δεύτερης περιόδου όμως, ήταν εκ διαμέτρου αντίθετη. Όσοι ήρθαν από τον πάγκο ήταν εκτός κλίματος, έχασαν διαδοχικές μάχες στην άμυνα και μαζί τον έλεγχο του ρυθμού. Πολύ γρήγορα, η Μονακό πέτυχε δέκα αναπάντητους πόντους για το +7 (29-22 στο 12'), το οποίο μεγάλωσε ακόμη περισσότερο μέχρι την ανάπαυλα. Πότε ο Πάρις Λι, πότε ο Ντουέιν Μπέικον και πότε ο Μάικ Τζέιμς εξέθεταν την ελληνική άμυνα, δίνοντας πλέον στη Μονακό τον ρόλο του φαβορί στην αναμέτρηση. Με 5/5 τρίποντα και 3 κλεψίματα στο δεκάλεπτο (έναντι των 0/5 τριπόντων και των 5 λαθών του Ολυμπιακού), η Μονακό έφτασε μέχρι το +17 (48-31) στην ανάπαυλα. Προβάδισμα που της έδινε -για τα καλά- τον πρώτο λόγο για τη νίκη.
Μετά τη διακοπή του ημιχρόνου, φάνηκε σαν κάτι να αλλάζει για την ομάδα του Γιώργου Μπαρτζώκα. Η πίεση στην άμυνα αυξήθηκε κατακόρυφα, που έφερε μεν τη συμπλήρωση των ομαδικών μέσα σε δύο λεπτά, πλην όμως έδωσε ελπίδα. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι ξανάδωσαν μαζεμένες μπάλες στον Μουσταφά Φαλ, ο οποίος έκανε τη δουλειά (όπως πάντα) και βοήθησε σημαντικά ώστε να συμμαζευτεί κάπως η κατάσταση (50-40 στο 24').
Πάνω όμως, που φάνηκε κάτι να αλλάζει, η Μονακό πάτησε το γκάζι. Με συνοπτικές διαδικασίες και με όπλο την φθορά των αντίπαλων κοντών, οι γηπεδούχοι οδήγησαν τη διαφορά στο +19 (61-42 στο 27') μέσα σε τρία λεπτά, για να καταδείξουν πως δεν ήταν διατεθειμένοι να δώσουν πραγματικές πιθανότητες νίκης στον Ολυμπιακό.
Από εκεί και πέρα, το παιχνίδι απέκτησε διαδικαστικό χαρακτήρα, αφού οι ερυθρόλευκοι δεν είχαν την ενέργεια, τις λύσεις και τα ποσοστά για να κυνηγήσουν την ανατροπή. Τα 12/18 τρίποντα της Μονακό έναντι των 5/24 του Ολυμπιακού έλεγαν όσα χρειαζόταν για την εικόνα του αγώνα, με τους γηπεδούχους να μην αφήνουν το πόδι από το γκάζι ούτε λεπτό. Κάπως έτσι βρέθηκαν μέχρι το +27 (88-61 στο 37'), ανεβάζοντας κατακόρυφα τα ντεσιμπέλ στο τάιμ άουτ του Γιώργου Μπαρτζώκα.
