Monaco had no particular problems against Basconia, which they won at home (78-68) to reach five victories in six matches in the EuroLeague. Even closer to the playoffs is the team of Sasa Obradovic.
With the speed gained from the triumph over Olympiakos, Monaco did what it had to do against Baskonia (78-68). Sasa Obradovic's players dominated after the first period (excluding the period from 26 'to 32') and took the fifth victory in six games, getting even closer to the big goal: qualifying for the EuroLeague playoffs.
All this on a night when Mike James missed (3/11 shots), but Will Thomas (16 points) and Alfa Diallo (10 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists) did the job - and more.
The race
The visitors were the ones who started the game better, on the one hand because they were consistent offensively and on the other hand because they had found a way to limit the action of Mike James. The +1 lead (18-19) at the end of the first period did not last long, of course, since Monaco gradually stepped on the gas. With Doda Hall reaching the double-double from halftime (10 points, 7 rebounds) and given Basconia's failure in the three-pointer (2/11), Sasa Obradovic's team reached its +10 (42-32) rest, showing ready to take the victory.
The start of the third period was even better for the hosts. Despite the fact that Mike James did not have the percentages one would expect, there was no problem. With Will Thomas finishing the phases close to the basket and Dwayne Bacon being - for the umpteenth time - consistent in the three-pointer, the difference reached +21 (57-36) in the 26th minute.
In the next six minutes, however, Basconia almost brought the ups and downs and caused a unique accident for Monaco. You see, despite the failure from the periphery, the guests made a great effort and reached -7 (65-58 in 32 '). That's it.
The parenthesis closed somewhere there, with the hosts pressing the accelerator again and leading the difference to safety levels again, reaching the victory that brings them even closer to the playoffs.

Η Μονακό δεν είχε ιδιαίτερα προβλήματα απέναντι στην Μπασκόνια, την οποία κέρδισε εντός έδρας (78-68) για να φτάσει τις πέντε νίκες σε έξι αγώνες στην EuroLeague. Ακόμη πιο κοντά στα playoffs η ομάδα του Σάσα Ομπράντοβιτς.
Με κεκτημένη ταχύτητα από τον θρίαμβο επί του Ολυμπιακού, η Μονακό έκανε αυτό που έπρεπε απέναντι στην Μπασκόνια (78-68). Οι παίκτες του Σάσα Ομπράντοβιτς κυριάρχησαν μετά από την πρώτη περίοδο (με εξαίρεση το διάστημα από το 26' μέχρι το 32') και πήραν την πέμπτη νίκη σε έξι αγώνες, πλησιάζοντας ακόμη περισσότερο στον μεγάλο στόχο: την πρόκριση στα playoffs της EuroLeague.
Όλα αυτά σε μια βραδιά που ο Μάικ Τζέιμς ήταν άστοχος (3/11 σουτ), αλλά ο Γουίλ Τόμας (16 πόντοι) και ο Άλφα Ντιάλο (10 πόντοι, 9 ριμπάουντ, 2 ασίστ) έκαναν τη δουλειά -και με το παραπάνω.
Ο αγώνας
Οι φιλοξενούμενοι ήταν αυτοί που ξεκίνησαν καλύτερα το παιχνίδι, αφενός γιατί ήταν συνεπείς επιθετικά αφετέρου επειδή είχαν βρει τον τρόπο να περιορίσουν την δράση του Μάικ Τζέιμς. Το προβάδισμα του +1 (18-19) στο τέλος της πρώτης περιόδου δεν κράτησε πολύ βέβαια, αφού σταδιακά η Μονακό πάτησε το γκάζι. Με τον Ντόντα Χολ να αγγίζει το νταμπλ νταμπλ από το ημίχρονο (10 πόντοι, 7 ριμπάουντ) και με δεδομένη την αστοχία της Μπασκόνια στο τρίποντο (2/11), η ομάδα του Σάσα Ομπράντοβιτς έφτασε μέχρι το +10 (42-32) της ανάπαυλας, δείχνοντας έτοιμη να πάρει τη νίκη.
Η εκκίνηση της τρίτης περιόδου ήταν ακόμη καλύτερη για τους γηπεδούχους. Παρά το γεγονός πως ο Μάικ Τζέιμς δεν είχε τα ποσοστά που θα περίμενε κανείς, δεν υπήρξε πρόβλημα. Με τον Γουίλ Τόμας να τελειώνει τις φάσεις κοντά στο καλάθι και τον Ντουέιν Μπέικον να είναι -για πολλοστή φορά- συνεπής στο τρίποντο, η διαφορά έφτασε στο +21 (57-36) στο 26ο λεπτό.
Στα επόμενα έξι λεπτά πάντως, η Μπασκόνια λίγο έλειψε να φέρει τα πάνω κάτω και να προκαλέσει ένα ανεπανάληπτο κάζο για τη Μονακό. Βλέπετε, παρά την αστοχία από την περιφέρεια, ο φιλοξενούμενοι έκαναν σπουδαία προσπάθεια και έφτασαν μέχρι το -7 (65-58 στο 32'). Αυτό ήταν.
Η παρένθεση έκλεισε κάπου εκεί, με τους γηπεδούχους να ξαναπατάνε το γκάζι και να οδηγούν εκ νέου τη διαφορά σε επίπεδα ασφαλείας, φτάνοντας στη νίκη που τους φέρνει ακόμη πιο κοντά στα playoffs.
