Costas Sloukas stepped on the gas from the 25th minute and then, Sasha Vezenkov with Tyler Dorsey finished all the phases in the last period and together they led Olympiakos to the home advantage in the EuroLeague playoffs. Giorgos Bartzokas's team took the victory over Villeurbanne at the Astroballe (94-80) and ensured that the qualification for the Final Four in Belgrade passes through SEF, after locking a place in the top four of the standings - it's left to play at home with Barcelona in a week.

The red and whites know that the most probable scenario is the one that brings them to the 4th position of the ranking (against Anantolou Efes apparently), but at the same time they are peeking higher, basically expecting Armani Milano to gather defeats.

The race

The way Olympiacos entered the game showed that everyone had realized what went wrong two nights earlier at Salle Gaston Medecin. But very quickly, the +8 (2-10 in 3 ') made wings. Despite the fact that Eli Okombo and Chris Jones missed (they had 1/6 shots in the first ten minutes), Villeurbanne found a way to react and trouble Giorgos Bartzokas's team. Who was he? Οι ερυθρόλευκοι ξέρουν πως το πιθανότερο σενάριο είναι αυτό που τους φέρνει στην 4η θέση της κατάταξης (απέναντι στην Αναντολού Εφές κατά τα φαινόμενα), παράλληλα όμως κρυφοκοιτάζουν ψηλότερα, προσδοκώντας κατά βάση σε μαζεμένες ήττες της Αρμάνι Μιλάνο.

Ο αγώνας

Ο τρόπος με τον οποίο μπήκε στο παιχνίδι ο Ολυμπιακός έδειξε πως άπαντες είχαν αντιληφθεί τι πήγε στραβά δύο βράδια νωρίτερα στη Salle Gaston Medecin. Πολύ γρήγορα όμως, το +8 (2-10 στο 3') έκανε φτερά. Παρά το γεγονός πως ο Έλι Οκόμπο και ο Κρις Τζόουνς ήταν άστοχοι (είχαν 1/6 σουτ στο πρώτο δεκάλεπτο), η Βιλερμπάν βρήκε τον τρόπο να αντιδράσει και να προβληματίσει την ομάδα του Γιώργου Μπαρτζώκα. Ποιος ήταν αυτός; Τα τρίποντα. Οι παίκτες του Τι Τζέι Πάρκερ είχαν 5/7 τρίποντα στην πρώτη περίοδο, με τον Ματιέ Στραζέλ να κάνει ζημιά (26-26 στο 10').

Με τον Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ και τον Κώστα Παπανικολάου να δίνουν τον ρυθμό στην επίθεση, αυτό που χρειαζόταν ήταν η βελτίωση της άμυνας. Όπως κι έγινε χάρη σε εκείνους που εμφανίστηκαν από τον πάγκο. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι ανέκαμψαν και έφτασαν μέχρι το +7 (35-42 στο 18') με τον Λιβιό Ζαν Σαρλ να δίνει 8 πόντους (με 3/3 δίποντα και 2/2 βολές) σε 7'18'' συμμετοχής, για να κλείσουν το πρώτο μέρος όντες στο +4 (43-47).

Το μπρα ντε φερ συνεχίστηκε για μεγάλο διάστημα στο τρίτο δεκάλεπτο. Βλέπετε, ακόμη κι όταν ο Ολυμπιακός επέστρεψε στο +7 (43-50 στο 22'), πολύ γρήγορα η Βιλερμπάν ανέκαμψε και έφτασε σε απόσταση βολής (51-52 στο 25') με τον Ματιέ Στραζέλ να κάνει ό,τι δεν μπορούσαν οι υπόλοιποι για τη γαλλική ομάδα. Με τη Βιλερμπάν να αποδεικνύεται εξαιρετικά ανταγωνιστική και σκληρή πνευματικά (παρά τις πολλές απουσίες και τον τραυματισμό του Μάρκος Νάιτ), ο Κώστας Σλούκας έκανε ένα βήμα μπροστά, την κατάλληλη στιγμή. Με 9 πόντος από το 26' μέχρι το 30' του αγώνα, ο αριστερόχειρας γκαρντ έδωσε αυτό που χρειαζόταν ο Γιώργος Μπαρτζώκας μέχρι το +5 (64-69) του 30ου λεπτού.

Όσο περνούσε η ώρα, ο Ολυμπιακός καταδείκνυε πως δεν θα μπει σε περαιτέρω συζήτηση. Η άμυνά του έγινε πολύ πιο αποτελεσματική, ο Τάιλερ Ντόρσεϊ με τον Σάσα Βεζένκοβ παρουσίασαν στο παρκέ του Astroballe το πληθωρικό επιθετικό ταλέντο τους και κάπως έτσι οδήγησαν την ελληνική ομάδα στο +11 (74-85) του 37ου λεπτού. Διαφορά που η Βιλερμπάν δεν είχε πλέον τις δυνάμεις και τις επιλογές να αμφισβητήσει.

Η νίκη κατέληξε σε ερυθρόλευκα χέρια, μαζί το πλεονέκτημα έδρας στα playoffs.
