Maria Sakkari completed a fantastic fortnight in the USA where she beat Serena Williams in the Western and Southern Open while reaching the "16" of the US Open for the first time in her career.
It is the second time in her career that she reaches the 4th round in Grand Slam after she had succeeded in the Australian Open 2020 and now she is focusing on the Rome Open and of course Roland Garros.
The points were 106-99 for Serena Williams. The effortless mistakes were 43-38 with the Greek having more but the winners were 35-30 for Maria.
Sakkari reached 1/6 break point and Williams had 3/8.
One break was enough ...
In the first set, Serena Williams will lead 2-1. Maria Sakkari will have a triple break point in the 5th game but the American will erase it for 3-2.
Serena after 2 lost break points will make the break 4-2 and will close the set with 6-3 in its serve.

Maria Sakkari will lead 2-1 and 4-3 in the 2nd set. The 5-4 is for the Greek tennis player and the American will erase 2 sets of points in the 12th game to lead the set to the tie break.
The Greek will make a mini break (2-0) and will reach 4-0 but Serena will take the mini break back (4-1) and with an ace will make it 4-2. Maria will reach a double set point (6-4) but the American will delete it! Sakkari will also have a 5th set of points and will prevail with 7-6 (6)!

The 3rd set will open with a break (1-0) of Sakkari and with its service it will reach 2-0 and Serena with a break will equalize at 2-2! The American will be ahead after an hour in the game (3-2) but with a love service game Maria will equalize at 3-3.

Η 38χρονη Σερένα Ουίλιαμς προκρίθηκε για 17η φορά σε 20 σεζόν στους "8" και θα παίξει με την νικήτρια του αγώνα της Κορνέ με την Πιράνκοβα.
Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη ολοκλήρωσε ένα φαναστικό δεκαπενθήμερο στις ΗΠΑ όπου κέρδισε την Σερένα Ουίλιαμς στο Western and Southern Open ενώ έφτασε για πρώτη φορά στην καριέρα της στους "16" του US Open.

Η Σερένα μετά από 2 χαμένα μπρέικ πόιντ θα κάνει με μπρέικ το 4-2 και θα κλείσει το σετ με 6-3 στο σερβίς της.

Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη θα προηγηθεί με 2-1 και 4-3 στο 2ο σετ. Το 5-4 είναι για την Ελληνίδα τενίστρια και η Αμερικανίδα θα σβήσει 2 σετ πόιντ στο 12ο γκέιμ για να οδηγήσει το σετ στο τάι μπρέικ.
Η Ελληνίδα θα κάνει μίνι μπρέικ (2-0) και θα φτάσει στο 4-0 αλλά η Σερένα θα πάρει το μίνι μπρέικ πίσω (4-1) και με άσο θα κάνει το 4-2. H Μαρία θα φτάσει σε διπλό σετ πόιντ (6-4) αλλά η Αμερικανίδα θα το σβήσει! Η Σάκκαρη θα έχει και 5ο σετ πόιντ και θα επικρατήσει με 7-6 (6)!

Το 3ο σετ θα ανοίξει με μπρέικ (1-0) της Σάκκαρη και με το σερβίς της θα φτάσει στο 2-0 και η Σερένα με μπρέικ θα ισοφαρίσει σε 2-2! Η Αμερικανίδα θα προηγηθεί μετά από ώρα στο παιχνίδι (3-2) αλλά με love service game η Μαρία θα ισοφαρίσει σε 3-3.
Η Σερένα Ουίλιαμς με μπρέικ θα προηγηθεί με 5-3 και με το 2ο ματς πόιντ θα επικρατήσει με 6-3.
