Score, spectacle and substance from Panathinaikos, who scored 67 points in the second half and dismantled the Adelaide 36ers with 106-89 for a 2/2 draw in the 7th “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament.

By making a magical third period with 34 points, Panathinaikos turned the situation around against the Adelaide 36ers (39-47, 20′) at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, prevailing with an emphatic 106-89 and making it 2/2 in the 7th “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament.

Kendrick Nunn set the stage and looked unstoppable again, scoring 26 points. But he certainly wasn't the only one who stood out from Ergin Ataman's team. Jerian Grant had a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists. Rishon Holmes had 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Nikos Rogavopoulos had 14 points (4/6 three-pointers) and 8 rebounds.

Juancho Hernangomez also scored in double figures with 10 points, as did Dinos Mitoglou with 12. Kostas Sloukas, who scored 9’44”, was very positive in the organization part - and while he did not need to score - since he comes from a very crowded EuroBasket.

The clover caught fire after the break, scoring 67 points in the second half. The ball circulation was excellent, hence the 26 assists, while the greens did not waste many possessions, making only 7 mistakes.

The match

Panathinaikos started with Grant, Nan, Rogavopoulos, Juancho and Yurtseven. The 36ers led 7-15 at 5’40”, thanks to three three-pointers by Vasiljevic. Somewhere there, Ataman put Sloukas, Kalaitzakis, Holmes in the match and the greens started to pick up the pace, finally overtaking with 16-15 in the 9th minute, after a collaboration between the experienced Greek guard and the newly arrived American center.

The clover did not manage to remain in a leading position, however, with Cotton creating a huge problem and scoring 15 of his team's 28 points in the second period to make it 39-47 in the 20th minute.

Sloukas, Nan, Rogavopoulos, Houandzo and Holmes were the ones who started the second half, with Panathinaikos' attack now operating much more effectively. The 34-21 score in the third period is quite indicative of the situation, with the Greek and Spanish forwards providing valuable solutions with their long-range shots.

Panathinaikos was up +5 (73-68) at the start of the fourth quarter, while there they ran an 8-0 run to escape with 81-68 (32′). The greens had finally found their rhythm and seemed unstoppable on the court.

Κάνοντας μία μαγική τρίτη περίοδο με 34 πόντους, ο Παναθηναϊκός ανέτρεψε την κατάσταση απέναντι στους Αδελαΐδα 36ερς (39-47, 20′) στην Qudos Bank Arena του Σίδνεϊ, επικράτησε με το εμφατικό 106-89 και έκανε το 2/2 στο 7ο τουρνουά “Παύλος Γιαννακόπουλος”.

Ο Κέντρικ Ναν έβαλε τις βάσεις και έμοιαζε ξανά ασταμάτητος, προσφέροντας 26 πόντους.Όμως σίγουρα δεν ήταν ο μόνος που ξεχώρισε από την ομάδα του Εργκίν Αταμάν. Ο Τζέριαν Γκραντ πέτυχε double-double με 11 πόντους, 10 ασίστ. Ο Ρισόν Χολμς είχε 14 πόντους, 9 ριμπάουντ, ενώ ο Νίκος Ρογκαβόπουλος είχε 14 πόντους (4/6 τρίποντα) και 8 ριμπάουντ.

Διψήφιος και ο Χουάντσο Ερνανγκόμεθ με 10 πόντους, αλλά και ο Ντίνος Μήτογλου με 12. Πολύ θετικός στο κομμάτι της οργάνωσης -και ενώ δεν χρειάστηκε να σκοράρει- ο Κώστας Σλούκας, που πήρε 9’44”, αφού προέρχεται από ένα πολύ γεμάτο EuroBasket.

Το τριφύλλι πήρε φωτιά μετά την ανάπαυλα, σημειώνοντας 67 πόντους στο β’ μέρος. Η κυκλοφορία της μπάλας ήταν εξαιρετική, εξού και οι 26 ασίστ, ενώ οι πράσινοι δεν σπατάλησαν πολλές κατοχές, κάνοντας μόλις 7 λάθη.

Ο αγώνας

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ξεκίνησε με Γκραντ, Ναν, Ρογκαβόπουλο, Χουάντσο και Γιούρτσεβεν. Οι 36ερς προηγήθηκαν με 7-15 στο 5’40”, χάρη σε τρία τρίποντα του Βασίλιεβιτς. Κάπου εκεί, ο Αταμάν έβαλε στο ματς Σλούκα, Καλαϊτζάκη, Χολμς και οι πράσινοι ξεκίνησαν να ανεβάζουν ρυθμό, για να προσπεράσουν τελικά με 16-15 στο 9′, έπειτα από συνεργασία του πολύπειρου Έλληνα γκαρντ με τον νεοφερμένο Αμερικανό σέντερ.

Το τριφύλλι δεν κατάφερε να παραμείνει όμως σε θέση οδηγού, με τον Κότον να δημιουργεί τεράστιο πρόβλημα και να βάζει 15 από τους 28 πόντους της ομάδας του στη δεύτερη περίοδο για να διαμορφωθεί το 39-47 στο 20′.

Σλούκας, Ναν, Ρογκαβόπουλος, Χουάντσο και Χολμς ήταν εκείνοι που ξεκίνησαν στο β’ μέρος, με την επίθεση του Παναθηναϊκού να λειτουργεί πια πολύ πιο αποτελεσματικά. Το 34-21 της τρίτης περιόδου είναι αρκετά ενδεικτικό της κατάστασης, με τον Έλληνα και τον Ισπανό φόργουορντ να δίνουν πολύτιμες λύσεις με τα μακρινά τους σουτ.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ήταν στο +5 (73-68) στην έναρξη του τέταρτου δεκαλέπτου, ενώ εκεί έτρεξε ένα σερί 8-0 για να ξεφύγει με 81-68 (32′). Οι πράσινοι είχαν βρει για τα καλά τον ρυθμό τους και έδειχναν ασταμάτητοι πάνω στο παρκέ.
