Greek Cup: Changes in the way the competition is conducted – How teams qualify for the Final 8

The EEC announced significant changes in the way the Greek Cup is conducted. – Who advances to the Final 8.

The EEC published the special announcement for the 2026 Greek Cup on Friday, July 18, and few realized that there are some significant organizational changes in the institution.

These changes concern the qualification of the 8 teams to the Final 8.

In contrast to what has been happening until now, with the first seven of the first round of the Stoiximan GBL qualifying, along with the winner of the UNICEF Trophy (the cup of the remaining national categories, i.e. Elite League, National League 1, National League 2) to the Final 8, from 2026 the situation changes.

Specifically, only the top four teams in the first round of the Stoiximan GBL will qualify directly for the Final 8, and the remaining four places will be decided through a play-in process.

The winner of the UNICEF Trophy maintains its chances of qualifying for the final phase of the event, but will have to play two qualifiers against teams from Stoiximan GBL. In the first phase, it must beat the Stoiximan GBL team, which will have the penultimate place (12th) at the end of the first round, at home.

8 teams participate in the play-ins and will fight for 4 tickets in knockout games. The 5th place team in the first round of the Stoiximan GBL will compete with the 12th place team (or the winner of the UNICEF Trophy if it qualifies), the 6th with the 11th, the 7th with the 10th and the 8th with the 9th. The home team will in all cases be the team that is in the highest position in the standings, unless the winner of the UNICEF Trophy has qualified, in which case they will play the home team against the 5th place.

The 8 tickets for the Final 8 will be awarded as follows

1.1st 1st Round Stoiximan GBL

2.2nd 1st Round Stoiximan GBL

3.3rd 1st Round Stoiximan GBL

4.4th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL

5.Winner 5th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL – 12th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL or UNICEF Trophy Holder

6.Winner 6th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL – 11th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL

7.Winner 7th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL – 10th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL

8.Winner 8th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL – 9th 1st Round Stoiximan GBL

Then, the pairs of the Final 8 will be determined through a draw without criteria.

Σημαντικές αλλαγές στον τρόπο διεξαγωγής του Κυπέλλου Ελλάδος ανακοίνωσε η ΕΟΚ. – Ποιοι περνούν στο Final 8.

Η ΕΟΚ δημοσιοποίησε την ειδική προκήρυξη για το Κύπελλο Ελλάδος 2026 την Παρασκευή 18 Ιουλίου και λίγοι συνειδητοποίησαν ότι υπάρχουν ορισμένες σημαντικές οργανωτικές αλλαγές στον θεσμό.

Οι αλλαγές αυτές αφορούν την πρόκριση των 8 ομάδων στο Final 8.

Σε αντίθεση λοιπόν με ό,τι συνέβαινε μέχρι σήμερα, με τους πρώτους επτά του πρώτου γύρου της Stoiximan GBL να προκρίνονται, μαζί με τον νικητή του UNICEF Trophy (του κυπέλλου των υπόλοιπων εθνικών κατηγοριών, δηλαδή Elite League, National League 1, National League 2) στο Final 8, από το 2026 η κατάσταση αλλάζει.

Συγκεκριμένα, απευθείας πρόκριση στο Final 8 θα έχουν μόνο οι τέσσερις πρώτες ομάδες του α’ γύρου της Stoiximan GBL και οι υπόλοιπες τέσσερις θέσεις θα κριθούν μέσω διαδικασίας play-in.

Ο νικητής του UNICEF Trophy διατηρεί τις πιθανότητές του για πρόκριση στην τελική φάση του θεσμού, αλλά θα πρέπει να κάνει δύο προκρίσεις κόντρα σε ομάδες της Stoiximan GBL. Σε πρώτη φάση να κερδίσει εντός έδρας την ομάδα της Stoiximan GBL, που θα έχει την προτελευταία θέση (12η) στο τέλος του πρώτου γύρου.

Στα play-in συμμετέχουν 8 ομάδες που θα παλέψουν για 4 εισιτήρια σε νοκ-άουτ παιχνίδια. Ο 5ος του πρώτου γύρου της Stoiximan GBL θα αγωνιστεί με τον 12ο (ή τον νικητή του UNICEF Trophy εφόσον προκριθεί), ο 6ος με τον 11ο, ο 7ος με τον 10ο και ο 8ος με τον 9ο. Γηπεδούχος θα είναι σε όλες τις περιπτώσεις η ομάδα που θα βρίσκεται στην ψηλότερη θέση της βαθμολογίας, εκτός εάν έχει προκριθεί ο νικητής του UNICEF Trophy, όπου θα παίξει γηπεδούχος με τον 5ο.

Τα 8 εισιτήρια για το Final 8 θα δοθούν με τον παρακάτω τρόπο

6.Νικητής 6ου Α΄Γύρου Stoiximan GBL – 11ου Α΄Γύρου Stoiximan GBL

7.Νικητής 7ου Α΄Γύρου Stoiximan GBL – 10ου Α΄Γύρου Stoiximan GBL

8.Νικητής 8ου Α΄Γύρου Stoiximan GBL – 9ου Α΄Γύρου Stoiximan GBL

Στη συνέχεια, τα ζευγάρια του Final 8 θα προκύψουν μέσω κλήρωσης άνευ κριτηρίων.
