Gauff in semifinals with upset

Coco Gauff turned the match against Madison Keys around and advanced to the Roland Garros semifinals for the second consecutive year.

Although she had some ups and downs in her performance, the 21-year-old American (No.2) remained calm after losing the first set and defeated her compatriot (No.8) 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-1 in 2 hours and 11 minutes.

Coco will play in the semifinals of the tournament for the third time and will find the winner of the match between Lois Boisson and Mira Andreeva.

The young tennis player managed to turn the 1-4 of the first set into 5-4, but she gave up in the tiebreak that followed and fell behind in the score.

In the second set, the terms were reversed, with Keys taking back the two breaks she conceded to level at 4-4 from 4-1. Gauff, however, achieved another break (5-4) and then served successfully to equalize.

In the third set, however, she did not lose her lead with a double break (4-1) and triumphantly closed the match, scoring a break with zero at 5-1.

The head to head is now at 3-3 and the brakes have been put on Keys' streak, who was undefeated this year in slams (11-0), having won the Australian Open.

In total, Coco has reached the Grand Slam semifinals five times and will try to qualify for the Roland Garros final for the second time. She had played there in 2022, but had known defeat by Iga Swiatek.

Η Κόκο Γκοφ γύρισε το ματς με την Μάντισον Κις και πέρασε για δεύτερη διαδοχική χρονιά στα ημιτελικά του Roland Garros.

Αν και είχε κάποια σκαμπανεβάσματα στην απόδοσή της, η 21χρονη Αμερικανίδα (Νο.2) έμεινε ψύχραιμη μετά την απώλεια του πρώτου σετ και νίκησε τη συμπατριώτισσά της (Νο.8) με 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-1 σε 2 ώρες και 11 λεπτά. 

Η Κόκο θα παίξει για τρίτη φορά στα ημιτελικά της διοργάνωσης και θα βρει εκεί τη νικήτρια του αγώνα ανάμεσα στη Λοΐς Μπουασόν και τη Μίρα Αντρέεβα.

Η νεαρή τενίστρια κατάφερε να μετατρέψει το 1-4 του πρώτου σετ σε 5-4, όμως λύγισε στο τάι μπρέικ που ακολούθησε και έμεινε πίσω στο σκορ. 

Στο δεύτερο σετ οι όροι αντιστράφηκαν, με την Κις να παίρνει πίσω τα δύο μπρέικ που δέχτηκε να ισοφαρίζει σε 4-4 από 4-1. Η Γκοφ, ωστόσο πέτυχε ένα ακόμα μπρέικ (5-4) και στη συνέχεια σέρβιρε με επιτυχία για την ισοφάριση.

Στο τρίτο σετ, ωστόσο, δεν έχασε το προβάδισμά της με διπλό μπρέικ (4-1) και έκλεισε θριαμβευτικά τον αγώνα, σημειώνοντας μπρέικ με μηδέν στο 5-1. 

Το head to head είναι πλέον στο 3-3 και μπήκε και φρένο στο σερί της Κις, που ήταν αήττητη φέτος στα σλαμ (11-0), έχοντας κατακτήσει το Australian Open.

Συνολικά η Κόκο έχει φτάσει πέντε φορές σε ημιτελικά Grand Slam και θα προσπαθήσει να προκριθεί για δεύτερη φορά στον τελικό του Roland Garros. Είχε παίξει εκεί και το 2022, αλλά είχε γνωρίσει την ήττα από την Ίγκα Σβιόντεκ.
