Panionios announced the acquisition of Markel Starks for the next season.

The announcement in detail:

"KAE PANIONIOS announces the signing of an agreement with the American athlete, Markel Starks.

Markel Starks was born on February 21, 1991 and is 1.85 meters tall. His resume includes a long stint in European courts since the summer of 2014 and after that when he graduated from Georgetown. In his 4-year college career, he averaged 9.9 points- 2.4 assists with 36% three-point shooting and 81% shooting.

In his last season (2013-2014) in 33 games he averaged 17.3 points- 4.1 assists and was named to the Big East All-5. The previous season he was in the 3rd All-5.

In Europe he first played in the Italian A2 with FMC Ferentino (2014-2015) where he averaged 14.7 points- 4.1 assists.

The following season he started in Australia (Cairns) with 12.5 points- 2.4 assists and finished it in Italy with Vanoli Cremona (8.2 points- 1.9 assists).

In the 2016-2017 season, he began his journey in Germany and the Fraport Skyliners (11 points- 6 assists with 40% three-point shooting) and completed it in Greece and specifically in Korivos Amaliadas (13.6 points- 4.9 assists).

The following year (2017-2018) he played in Turkey and Yalova where he had an excellent championship: 22.2 points- 7.3 assists (leading passer of the championship) and 1.9 steals. Then he achieved all three of his career best scoring records with 40-35 and 33 points against Afyonkarahisar Belediye- Antalya and Samsunspor respectively.

That year he also set his career high in assists (16 against ITU).

In the 2018-2019 season he played with Zielona Gora in both the Polish championship and the VTB League where in 60 games he averaged 12.8 points- 5.3 assists.

The following year he moved to Russia and Saratov where he played for two years in the VTB League and had 12.7 points and 5.9 assists (he was named the most accurate player in shots in VTB with 95% in the first while the next (2020-2021) he had 11.3 points- 3.8 assists with 88% in shots).

The 2021-2022 season marked a turning point in his career as he began in Bosnia with Igokea (23 games - 11.5 points - 6 assists with 44% three-point shooting and 80% shooting) and completed it at Fenerbahce where he won the Turkish championship, also played in the Euroleague and had an average of 10.5 points - 4.5 assists).

He remained in Istanbul but moved to Darussafaka where in the 2022-2023 season in 45 games in the Turkish championship and BCL he had an average of 11.8 points - 4.1 assists with 44% three-point shooting and 84% shooting. That season he made his career-best three-pointers with 7 (in 10 attempts) in the match against Merkezefendi (he had a total of 27 points).

He began the 2023-2024 season in Spain and Andorra where he had 9 points in 15 games - 2.7 assists with 40% in three-pointers and 85% in shooting and completed it in Turkey and specifically in Petkimspor where he played 16 games in the domestic league and BCL with 12.1 points - 3.4 assists and also 38% in three-pointers and 94% in shooting.

In the 2024-2025 season he played in Buyukcekmece where in 28 games he had an average of 14.3 points - 5.7 assists with 42% in three-pointers and 95% in shooting. In the match against Galatasaray (24/5) he also had the best performance of his career in three-point shooting percentage with 6/6 (total 23 points while he also had 12 assists).

Ο Πανιώνιος ανακοίνωσε την απόκτηση του Μαρκέλ Σταρκς για την επόμενη σεζόν.

Αναλυτικά η ανακοίνωση:

«Η ΚΑΕ ΠΑΝΙΩΝΙΟΣ ανακοινώνει την επίτευξη συμφωνίας με τον Αμερικανό αθλητή, Markel Starks.

Ο Markel Starks γεννήθηκε στις 21 Φεβρουαρίου 1991 κι έχει ύψος 1,85 μέτρα. Στο βιογραφικό του έχει μακρά θητεία στα ευρωπαϊκά γήπεδα από το καλοκαίρι του 2014 και μετά όταν κι αποφοίτησε από το Georgetown. Σε 4 χρονικές κολεγιακής καριέρας είχε κατά μέσο όρο 9,9 πόντους- 2,4 ασίστ με 36% στα τρίποντα και 81% στις βολές.

Την τελευταία του χρονιά (2013-2014) σε 33 αγώνες είχε κατά μέσο όρο 17,3 πόντους- 4,1 ασίστ κι αναδείχθηκε μέλος της καλύτερης πεντάδας της περιφέρειας Big East. Την προηγούμενη σεζόν ήταν στην 3η καλύτερη πεντάδα.

Στην Ευρώπη αγωνίστηκε πρώτα στην Α2 Ιταλίας με την FMC Ferentino (2014-2015) όπου είχε κατά μέσο όρο14,7 πόντους- 4,1 ασίστ.

Την επόμενη χρονιά άρχισε στην Αυστραλία (Cairns) με 12,5 πόντους- 2,4 ασίστ και την ολοκλήρωσε στην Ιταλία με την Vanoli Cremona  (8,2 πόντοι- 1,9 ασίστ).

Την περίοδο 2016-2017 άρχισε τη διαδρομή του στην Γερμανία και τους Fraport Skyliners (11 πόντοι- 6 ασίστ με 40% στα τρίποντα) και την ολοκλήρωσε στην Ελλάδα και συγκεκριμένα στον Κόροιβο Αμαλιάδας (13,6 πόντοι-  4,9 ασίστ).

Την επόμενη χρονιά (2017-2018) αγωνίστηκε στην Τουρκία και την Yalova όπου έκανε εξαιρετικό πρωτάθλημα: 22,2 πόντοι- 7,3 ασίστ (κορυφαίος πασέρ του πρωταθλήματος) και 1,9 κλεψίματα. Τότε πέτυχε και τα τρία καλύτερα ρεκόρ στην καριέρα του στο σκοράρισμα με 40-35 και 33 πόντους κόντρα σε Afyonkarahisar Belediye- Antalya και Samsunspor αντίστοιχα.

Εκείνη τη χρονιά έκανε επίσης το ρεκόρ καριέρας του στις ασίστ (16 κόντρα στην ITU)

Την σεζόν 2018-2019 αγωνίστηκε με την Zielona Gora  τόσο στο πρωτάθλημα Πολωνίας όσο και στην VTB League όπου σε 60 αγώνες είχε κατά μέσο όρο12,8 πόντους- 5,3 ασίστ.

Την επόμενη χρονιά μετακινήθηκε στην Ρωσία και την Saratov όπου αγωνίστηκε για δύο χρόνια στην VTB League και είχε 12,7 πόντους και 5,9 ασίστ (αναδείχθηκε πιο εύστοχος παίκτης στις βολές στην VTB με 95%)  την πρώτη ενώ την επόμενη (2020-2021) είχε 11,3 πόντους- 3,8 ασίστ με 88% στις βολές).

Η σεζόν 2021-2022 σήμανε την αλλαγή σελίδας στην καριέρα του καθώς άρχισε στην Βοσνία με την Igokea (23 αγώνες- 11,5 πόντοι- 6 ασίστ με 44% στα τρίποντα και 80% στις βολές) και την ολοκλήρωσε στην Fenerbahce όπου κατέκτησε το πρωτάθλημα Τουρκίας, αγωνίστηκε και στην Euroleague και είχε κατά μέσο όρο 10,5 πόντους- 4,5 ασίστ).

Παρέμεινε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη αλλά μετακόμισε στην Darussafaka  όπου τη σεζόν 2022-2023 σε 45 αγώνες σε πρωτάθλημα Τουρκίας και BCL είχε κατά μέσο όρο 11,8 πόντους- 4,1 ασίστ με 44% στα τρίποντα και 84% στις βολές. Εκείνη τη σεζόν έκανε την κορυφαία επίδοση της καριέρας του στα εύστοχα τρίποντα με 7 (σε 10 προσπάθειες) στον αγώνα με την Merkezefendi (είχε συνολικά 27 πόντους).

Την περίοδο 2023-2024 άρχισε στην Ισπανία και την Andorra όπου είχε σε 15 αγώνες 9 πόντους- 2,7 ασίστ με 40% στα τρίποντα και 85% στις βολές και την ολοκλήρωσε στην Τουρκία και συγκεκριμένα στην Petkimspor όπου έδωσε 16 αγώνες σε εγχώριο πρωτάθλημα και BCL με 12,1 πόντους- 3,4 ασίστ και επίσης 38% στα τρίποντα και 94% στις βολές.

Την σεζόν 2024-2025 αγωνίστηκε στην Buyukcekmece όπου σε 28 αγώνες είχε κατά μέσο όρο 14,3 πόντους- 5,7 ασίστ με 42% στα τρίποντα και 95% στις βολές. Στον αγώνα κόντρα στην Galatasaray (24/5) έκανε και την κορυφαία επίδοση της καριέρας του σε ποσοστό ευστοχίας στα τρίποντα με 6/6 (συνολικά 23 πόντους ενώ είχε και 12 ασίστ).
