PAOK - Panathinaikos 3-1 (vid)

At the crucial moment, PAOK turned a switch and with a 3-1 set went to the final and formed Panathinaikos which is now heading for a disastrous season.

PAOK booked a date with Olympiakos in the final of the Greek Cup, beating Panathinaikos 3-1 in sets (25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22), continuing the winning streak, after the two consecutive victories in championship over its current opponent. Very good performance from Van Den Dries and Skredau, who provided important solutions in the "Northern Doubleheader".

From the first set, the two teams showed the audience that the match would be for strong nerves. PAOK started with a quick lead of two points (3-1), but Panathinaikos turned the difference against them, reaching +2 (7-9).

The Thessalonians responded, tying the set at 9-9, with both opponents still close to the score. One tie followed another, with the "Northern Doubleheader" gaining a three point difference (20-17). The team of Dimitris Andreopoulos with Hernandez on serve equalized again (20-20), but again found themselves back on the scoreboard with Den Dries and Yorna making it 22-20.

PAOK found themselves with two opportunities in set ball position (24-22), with Panathinaikos reacting, sending the set to overtime (24-24). The set had another draw (25-25) with the "greens" making the necessary run and closing the set (25-27).

The second set had a similar start to the first set with PAOK again leading by two (3-1) and Panathinaikos quickly equalizing at 3-3. Josko Milenkoski's team went on a pineapple offensive streak, reaching +3 (7-4).

The difference of three points was widened by the Thessalonians, who gained a safety lead (16-9) which they managed until the end to tie the match (1-1) with a score of 25-17.

With PAOK having acquired a good rhythm and having greatly improved their block, the "black and white" found themselves in a leading position in the score (5-1). On the other hand, Panathinaikos reduced the score, with Milenkoski's players regaining their initial lead each time.

The Thessalonians jumped the gap to seven points (18-11), laying the groundwork for winning another set. The "greens" reduced to five (20-15), with the typical hosts maintaining this distance and closing the set with 25-20 for 2-1.

The very good block, as well as the unstable reception of Panathinaikos, gave PAOK the lead. The Thessalonians took a two-point lead (10-8), but the "greens" overturned the score (10-11).

By the middle of the set the "black and white" were behind with the score at 14-16. At that point they went on an offensive run, tied the game and took a three-point lead (21-18). The difference remained as it is with PAOK closing the set (25-22) and the match with a 3-1 set.

Την κρίσιμη στιγμή ο ΠΑΟΚ γύρισε διακόπτη και με 3-1 σετ πήγε τελικό και αποτελείωσε τον Παναθηναϊκό που πλέον οδεύει σε μια καταστροφική σεζόν.

Ο ΠΑΟΚ έκλεισε ραντεβού με τον Ολυμπιακό στον τελικό του Κυπέλλου Ελλάδας, επικρατώντας του Παναθηναϊκού με 3-1 σετ (25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22), συνεχίζοντας το σερί νικών, μετά τις δύο συνεχόμενες νίκες στο πρωτάθλημα επί του σημερινού του αντιπάλου. Πάρα πολύ καλή εμφάνιση από τον Βαν Ντεν Ντρις και τον Σκρεντάου, οι οποίοι έδωσαν σημαντικές λύσεις στον «Δικέφαλο του Βορρά».

Από το πρώτο σετ, οι δύο ομάδες έδειξαν στο κοινό πως η αναμέτρηση θα ήταν για γερά νεύρα. Ο ΠΑΟΚ ξεκίνησε με ένα γρήγορο προβάδισμα δύο πόντων (3-1), όμως ο Παναθηναϊκός ανέτρεψε την εις βάρος του διαφορά, φτάνοντας στο +2 (7-9).

Οι Θεσσαλονικείς απάντησαν, φέρνοντας στο σετ στα ίσα (9-9), και τους δύο αντιπάλους να συνεχίζουν κοντά στο σκορ. Η μία ισοπαλία διαδεχόταν την άλλη, με τον «Δικέφαλο του Βορρά» να αποκτά διαφορά τριών πόντων (20-17). Η ομάδα του Δημήτρη Ανδρεόπουλου με τον Ερνάντες στο σερβίς ισοφάρισε ξανά (20-20), όμως ξανά βρέθηκαν πίσω στο σκορ με τους Ντεν Ντρις και Γιόρνα να κάνουν το 22-20.

Ο ΠΑΟΚ βρέθηκε με δύο ευκαιρίες σε θέση set ball (24-22), με τον Παναθηναϊκό να βγάζει αντίδραση, στέλνοντας το σετ στην παράταση (24-24). Το σετ είχε ακόμη μία ισοπαλία (25-25) με τους «πράσινους» να κάνουν το απαραίτητο σερί και να κλείνουν το σετ (25-27).

Παρόμοια εκκίνηση με το πρώτο σετ είχε και το δεύτερο με τον ΠΑΟΚ να βρίσκεται ξανά μπροστά με δύο (3-1) και τον Παναθηναϊκό να ισοφαρίζει γρήγορα σε 3-3. Η ομάδα του Γιόσκο Μιλενκόσκι πραγματοποίησε ανανά επιθετικό σερί, φτάνοντας στο +3 (7-4).

Η διαφορά των τριών πόντων διευρύνθηκε από τους Θεσσαλονικείς, οι οποίοι απέκτησαν προβάδισμα ασφαλείας (16-9 το οποίο διαχειρίστηκαν έως το τέλος για να φέρουν στα ίσα το ματς (1-1) με σκορ 25-17.

Με τον ΠΑΟΚ να έχει αποκτήσει καλό ρυθμό και να έχει βελτιώσει πολύ το μπλοκ του, οι «ασπρόμαυροι» βρέθηκαν σε θέση οδηγού στο σκορ (5-1). Από την άλλη ο Παναθηναϊκός μείωνε στο σκορ, με τους παίκτες του Μιλενκόσκι ν' ανακτούν κάθε φορά το αρχικό προβάδισμά τους.

Οι Θεσσαλονικείς εκτόξευσαν τη διαφορά στους επτά πόντους (18-11), βάζοντας τις βάσεις για την κατάκτηση ενός ακόμη σετ. Οι «πράσινοι» μείωσαν στους πέντε (20-15), με τους τυπικά γηπεδούχους να διατηρούν αυτή την απόσταση και να κλείνουν με 25-20 το σετ για το 2-1.

Το πολύ καλό μπλοκ, καθώς και η ασταθής υποδοχή του Παναθηναϊκού έδωσαν προβάδισμα στον ΠΑΟΚ. Οι Θεσσαλονικείς πήραν δύο πόντους προβάδισμα (10-8), όμως οι «πράσινοι» ανέτρεψαν το σκορ (10-11). 

Μέχρι τα μέσα του σετ οι «ασπρόμαυροι» ήταν πίσω με το σκορ στο 14-16. Σε εκείνο το σημείο πραγματοποίησαν ένα επιθετικό σερί, ισοφάρισαν και πήραν απόσταση τριών πόντων (21-18). Η διαφορά παρέμεινε ως έχει με τον ΠΑΟΚ να κλείνει το σετ (25-22) και το ματς με 3-1 σετ.
