The race

The next five minutes were however disastrous for the greens, who threw away one possession after another, while Olympiacos started to step on the gas. With Isaiah Kanan and Sasha Vezenkov finishing the phases, Giorgos Bartzokas' team scored ten unanswered points and took the lead (9-12 at 7'), which it held until the end of the first period.

Dejan Radonic was obliged to open the rotation early, to give minutes of participation to Giorgos Kalaitzakis in the "4" in order not to wear out his main players. The b unit of the shamrock performed exceptionally well, with the international guard not troubled by the presence of Alec Peters. And if Olympiacos found itself at +6 (24-30 at 17'), it saw Paris Lee score two consecutive three-pointers and immediately collect the difference. However, the first half ended with the red and whites in the driver's seat, after Shaquille McKissic made one of the three-pointers given to him by the green defense (34-37).

The picture of the third period was very different, since the defense of Olympiakos dramatically increased its performance. The changes with Mustafa Fal coming out high in the perimeter short-circuited the greens, who could not find solutions near the basket. Thus, they indulged in continuous perimeter shots, which made life much simpler for the red-whites.

That's why, as soon as Olympiacos made a bunch of shots, it opened the gap to double digits (34-44 at 23'). No matter how many changes Dejan Radonic made, he couldn't find a solution since Giorgos Bartzokas' players performed exceptionally well. Even if they didn't get a score from Sasha Vezenkov. Thomas Walkup with Mustafa Fal did the job and created the +13 (43-56) of the 30th minute, which seemed too big for the clover to cover - based on image and percentages.

In the final period, what we saw was not indicative of the top two teams in the country, as the pace of the game dropped and missed shots became the norm. However, this did not trouble Olympiakos at all, who maintained absolute control of the situation. The red and whites easily remained in front with double-digit differences, reaching the victory - title in the Super Cup 2022 by aegean islands.

Ο αγώνας

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ξεκίνησε τον τελικό με μπόλικο ενθουσιασμό και transition, φτάνοντας γρήγορα στο +7 (9-2 στο 3'). Τα επόμενα πέντε λεπτά ήταν όμως καταστροφικά για τους πράσινους, οι οποίοι πετούσαν στα σκουπίδια τη μία κατοχή μετά την άλλη, την ώρα που ο Ολυμπιακός άρχισε να πατάει το γκάζι. Με τον Αϊζέια Κάναν και τον Σάσα Βεζένκοβ να τελειώνουν τις φάσεις, η ομάδα του Γιώργου Μπαρτζώκα πέτυχε δέκα αναπάντητους πόντους και πήρε το προβάδισμα (9-12 στο 7'), το οποίο κράτησε μέχρι το τέλος της πρώτης περιόδου.

Ο Ντέγιαν Ράντονιτς ήταν υποχρεωμένος να ανοίξει νωρίς το rotation, να δώσει λεπτά συμμετοχής στον Γιώργο Καλαϊτζάκη στο "4" για να μην φθείρει τους βασικούς του. Η b unit του τριφυλλιού απέδωσε πάντως εξαιρετικά, με τον διεθνή γκαρντ να μην προβληματίζεται από την παρουσία του Άλεκ Πίτερς. Κι αν ο Ολυμπιακός βρέθηκε στο +6 (24-30 στο 17'), είδε τον Πάρις Λι να πετυχαίνει δύο διαδοχικά τρίποντα και να μαζεύει άμεσα τη διαφορά. Το πρώτο μέρος έκλεισε πάντως με τους ερυθρόλευκους σε θέση οδηγού, αφού ο Σακίλ ΜακΚίσικ έβαλε ένα από τα τρίποντα που του έδωσε η πράσινη άμυνα (34-37).

Η εικόνα της τρίτης περιόδου ήταν πολύ διαφορετική, αφού η άμυνα του Ολυμπιακού ανέβασε κατακόρυφα την απόδοσή της. Οι αλλαγές με τον Μουστάφα Φαλ να βγαίνει ψηλά στην περιφέρεια βραχυκύκλωσαν τους πράσινους, που δεν μπορούσαν να βρουν λύσεις κοντά στο καλάθι. Έτσι, επιδόθηκαν σε συνεχόμενα περιφερειακά σουτ, που έκαναν πολύ πιο απλή τη ζωή των ερυθρολεύκων.

Γι αυτό κιόλας, μόλις ο Ολυμπιακός έβαλε μαζεμένα σουτ άνοιξε τη διαφορά σε διψήφια επίπεδα (34-44 στο 23'). Όσες αλλαγές κι έκανε ο Ντέγιαν Ράντονιτς, λύση δεν έβρισκε αφού οι παίκτες του Γιώργου Μπαρτζώκα απέδιδαν εξαιρετικά. Κι ας μην έπαιρναν σκορ από τον Σάσα Βεζένκοβ. Ο Τόμας Γουόκαπ με τον Μουστάφα Φαλ έκαναν τη δουλειά και δημιούργησαν το +13 (43-56) του 30ού λεπτού, που έμοιαζε πολύ μεγάλο για να καταφέρει -βάσει εικόνας και ποσοστών- να το καλύψει το τριφύλλι.

Στην τελευταία περίοδο, αυτό που είδαμε δεν παρέπεμπε σε τίποτα στις δύο κορυφαίες ομάδες της χώρας, αφού ο ρυθμός του αγώνα έπεσε κατακόρυφα και τα άστοχα σουτ αποτέλεσαν τον κανόνα. Τούτο όμως, ουδόλως προβλημάτισε τον Ολυμπιακό, ο οποίος διατηρούσε τον απόλυτο έλεγχο της κατάστασης. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι παρέμειναν άνευ δυσκολίας μπροστά με διψήφιες διαφορές, φτάνοντας στη νίκη - τίτλο στο Super Cup 2022 by aegean islands.
