Στους "16" του Miami Open προκρίθηκε για πρώτη φορά στην καριέρα της η Μαρία Σάκκαρη.
Η Ελληνίδα τενίστρια (Νο25) απέκλεισε με 6-0, 6-1 την άπειρη Ρωσίδα Λουντμίλα Σαμσόνοβα (Νο126) και θα παίξει για μια θέση στα προημιτελικά με την νικήτρια του αγώνα της Καρολίνας Πλίσκοβα με την Τζέσικα Πεγκούλα.
Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη δεν άφησε κανένα περιθώριο αντίδρασης στην Σαμσόνοβα και έχει μιας πρώτης τάξεως ευκαιρία να επιστρέψει στα προημιτελικά ενός τουρνουά WTA 1000.
