Για τρίτη σερί χρονιά και συνολικά 12η στην καριέρα του ο Ναδάλ κατέκτησε το Rolan Garros. Αυτή τη φορά αντίπαλός του ήταν ο Ντομινίκ Τιμ, ο οποίος τον κόντραρε κυρίως στα δύο πρώτα σετ. Από τη στιγμή που έγινε, όμως, το 2-1, ο Αυστριακός φάνηκε πως δεν μπορούσε να ακολουθήσει. Αντιθέτως, ο Ισπανός δεν είχε κανένα πρόβλημα να συνεχίσει στον ίδιο ρυθμό και τελικά να κατακτήσει το τουρνουά με 3-1 σετ.
Ο βασιλιάς του χώματος, διατήρησε με αυτό τον τρόπο και ένα εκπληκτικό σερί που έχει. Κάθε φορά που φτάνει στον τελικό του γαλλικού Όπεν, το κατακτά. Το έκανε και φέτος και έφτασε έτσι τα 18 Grand Slams. Υπολείπεται, πλέον, μόλις δύο του Ρότζερ Φέντερερ.
Στο πρώτο σετ το θέμα ήταν ποιος θα κάνει το break. Από τη στιγμή που ο Τιμ δεν μπόρεσε να υπερασπιστεί το σερβίς του, το έχασε. Ωστόσο, στο δεύτερο απέφυγε τα λάθη, πίεσε τον Ναδάλ και ισοφάρισε. Για τα υπόλοιπα δύο αρκεί να δει κανείς πως έληξαν με 6-1 αμφότερα. Αντιλαμβάνεται πως η διαφορά ήταν σημαντική όπως και ότι ο Ναδάλ εκμεταλλεύτηκε το μεγαλύτερο όπλο του στο χώμα. Αυτό είναι η αντοχή του.

Η αποθέωση στον επίσημο λογαριασμό της διοργάνωσης ήταν δεδομένη για τον Ναδάλ. Κανείς άλλος δεν έχει καταφέρει ό,τι εκείνος στο γαλλικό Όπεν άλλωστε. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί πως και πέρυσι είχαμε δει τους ίδιους πρωταγωνιστές στον τελικό. Ο Τιμ τότε είχε χάσει με 3-0 σετ (6-4, 6-3, 6-2).

Τέλος, να επισημανθεί πως ουδέποτε αθλητής είχε σε συγκεκριμένο Grand Slam τόσες επιτυχίες. Όχι μόνο σε επίπεδο ανδρών. Ακόμη και στις γυναίκες, η Μάργκαρετ Κορτ είχε κατακτήσει 11 φορές το Australian Open και η Μαρτίνα Ναβρατίλοβα 9 φορές το Wimbledon. Ο Ναδάλ με τις 12 στο Roland Garros ξεπέρασε τους πάντες.
