Παρά τα ψυχικά αποθέματα που βρήκε και γύρισε από το -3 ο Ολυμπιακός στο τέταρτο οκτάλεπτο (10-10), η Φερεντσβάρος τον νίκησε 14-13 στα πέναλτι και κατέκτησε το φετινό Champions League. 

Λύγισε σαν… πρωταθλητής Ευρώπης! 

Ένας συγκινητικός Ολυμπιακός στο τέταρτο οκτάλεπτο διόρθωσε τα λάθη που έκανε στα τρία προηγούμενα και επιστρέφοντας από το -3 (7-10) έστειλε τον τελικό στα πέναλτι (10-10), αλλά εκεί τα δοκάρια του κόστισαν την ήττα με 14-13 από τη Φερεντσβάρος, η οποία κατέκτησε το φετινό Champions League. 

Οι «ερυθρόλευκοι» πλήρωσαν τη μεγάλη αστοχία τους στον παίκτη παραπάνω και από την άλλη την αδυναμία να αντιμετωπίσουν τους Ούγγρους στην ίδια κατάσταση, με αποτέλεσμα να ήταν πίσω στο σκορ σε όλο το παιχνίδι.

Στην πρώτη επίθεση του παιχνιδιού έμεινε πίσω στο σκορ ο Ολυμπιακός. Ο Γενηδουνιάς ισοφάρισε (1-1), αλλά η ομάδα του Βλάχου ήταν νωθρή και τρομερά άστοχη, χάνοντας αρκετές ευκαιρίες στον παίκτη παραπάνω, με τους Ούγγρους από την άλλη να χτυπούν στην κόντρα και έτσι να κλείνουν το πρώτο οκτάλεπτο με το υπέρ τους 1-3. 

Με γκολ-πέναλτι του Γενηδουνιά, οι «ερυθρόλευκοι» μείωσαν (2-3), αλλά ξανά τα δοκάρια και η αστοχία, έδωσαν την ευκαιρία στη Φερεντσβάρος να πάει στα τρία τέρματα τη διαφορά (2-5), με δυνατά σουτ από την περιφέρεια, στα μισά του δεύτερου οκτάλεπτου. Εκεί, οι παίκτες του Βλάχου «έσφιξαν» αμυντικά, μπλόκαραν τους αντιπάλους τους και με συγκέντρωση στην επίθεση, πλησίασαν στο γκολ (4-5). Ωστόσο, στα τελευταία δύο λεπτά οι Ούγγροι εκμεταλλεύτηκαν τον παίκτη παραπάνω και ξέφυγαν ξανά στο +3 (4-7), το οποίο και διατήρησαν μέχρι το τέλος (5-8). 

Με εξαιρετικές άμυνες ξεκίνησε ο Ολυμπιακός στο τρίτο οκτάλεπτο και έτσι κατάφερε να μειώσει στο γκολ (7-8), στα πρώτα τρία λεπτά, ενώ στο μεταξύ οι Ούγγροι αστόχησαν και σε πέναλτι. Όμως, η συνέχεια δεν ήταν ανάλογη για τους «ερυθρόλευκους», καθώς «κόλλησαν» στην επίθεση και έτσι η Φερεντσβάρος το εκμεταλλεύτηκε, συντηρώντας το +3 (7-10), στο τέλος του τρίτου οκτάλεπτου, αφού χτύπησε για άλλη μία φορά στον παίκτη παραπάνω. 

Τρομερές άμυνες από τους παίκτες του Βλάχου σε όλο το τέταρτο οκτάλεπτο! Ο Ολυμπιακός είχε «μπλοκάρει» τη Φερεντσβάρος και με δύο γκολ του Γενηδουνιά και ένα του Φουντούλη, ισοφάρισε (10-10). Στα τελευταία λεπτά, οι Πειραιώτες είχαν την ευκαιρία να «κλέψουν» το παιχνίδι, αλλά δεν τα κατάφεραν και με τον Πάβιτς να κρατάει πίσω, ο τελικός οδηγήθηκε στα πέναλτι. 

Εκεί, τα δοκάρια των Γούνα, Μυλωνάκη και το άστοχο του Αργυρόπουλου στην τελευταία εκτέλεση, κόστισαν στον Ολυμπιακό την ήττα με το τελικό 13-14.
