F1 - Abu Dhabi: Verstappen takes pole and hopes for a "miracle"

Max Verstappen was the protagonist in the battle for pole position at Yas Marina and tomorrow his goal is to win the title along with victory.

The qualifying sessions for the Abu Dhabi GP, the last Formula 1 race in 2025, were exciting and offered intense drama. The one who celebrated pole position was Max Verstappen, who made an excellent performance and with a 1:22.207 made it the 8th time this year that he will start the race from a strong position.

Next to him will be McLaren Racing's Lando Norris, with the Briton not having the speed for pole. But he knows very well that with a place on the podium he will become world champion. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, who is also in the title battle, will start the race in third place.

Q1

The first part of the qualifying session started with the drivers taking to the track. With the gaps being very small in free practice, the battle for qualification to Q2 was expected to be very close.

Verstappen was the first title contender to make a timed attempt and was ahead of Norris. The one who had the fastest lap after the first passes was Russell, while Leclerc was in the exclusion zone. The differences were very small with the first 17 being separated by just half a second.

However, at the end we saw big changes in the classification with Piastre setting the fastest time. The following were eliminated from Q1: Hamilton, Albon, Hulkenberg, Gasly and Colapinto.

Q2

The 15-minute session started with Verstappen taking the lead on the track, while the two McLarens were in the garage. The Dutchman, like Norris-Piastri, had used a set of soft tires.

Russell was faster after the first few laps again, with Verstappen and the two McLarens behind him. Alonso and Bortoletto were impressive, while Leclerc was close to the danger zone. The battle with the clock was intense at the end of the process, with the drivers looking for even the slightest gain.

The reshuffles were large, with the top 10 separated by just 0.304 seconds. The following were eliminated from the race: Berman, Sainz, Lawson, Antonelli and Stroll.

Q3

The battle for the last pole position began with the drivers taking to the track for their first attempts. Verstappen, with the help of Tsonota who offered him a slipstream on the back straight, wrote 1:22.295 and left the rest chasing him.

The McLaren drivers had a used set and were in positions 2-3 with Piastri ahead of Norris, but far from Verstappen. Russell had a mistake on his lap and was 5th.

But everything was decided in the end, with the McLaren drivers coming out on the track first and Verstappen being last. Norris and Piastri were unable to beat the Dutchman, with the Briton taking 2nd place.

However, Verstappen, who was following, improved his time and took an extremely important pole for tomorrow's final. Norris will start 2nd and Piastri 3rd.

Followed by: Russell, Leclerc, Alonso, Bortoletto, Ocon, Hajar and Tsunoda.

Ο Μαξ Φερστάπεν ήταν ο πρωταγωνιστής στη μάχη της pole position της Γιας Μαρίνα και αύριο στόχος του είναι μαζί με τη νίκη ο τίτλος.

Οι κατατακτήριες δοκιμές του GP Άμπου Ντάμπι, του τελευταίου αγώνα της Formula 1 στο 2025 ήταν συναρπαστικές και προσέφεραν έντονο δράμα. Αυτός που πανηγύρισε την pole position ήταν ο Μαξ Φερστάπεν, ο οποίος έκανε μια εξαιρετική επίδοση και με το 1:22,207 έκανε για 8η φορά φέτος θα ξεκινήσει από θέση ισχύος τον αγώνα.

Δίπλα του θα έχει τον Λάντο Νόρις της McLaren Racing, με τον Βρετανό να μην έχει την ταχύτητα για την pole. Όμως γνωρίζει πολύ καλά πως με μια θέση στο βάθρο θα γίνει παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής. Τρίτος θα ξεκινήσει τον αγώνα ο teammate του, Όσκαρ Πιάστρι, ο οποίος είναι επίσης στη μάχη του τίτλου.

Q1

Το πρώτο σκέλος των κατατακτήριων δοκιμών ξεκίνησε με τους οδηγούς να βγαίνουν στην πίστα. Με τις διαφορές να είναι πολύ μικρές στις ελεύθερες δοκιμές, η μάχη για την πρόκριση στο Q2 θα αναμενόταν πολύ κλειστή.

O Φερστάπεν ήταν ο πρώτος διεκδικητής τίτλου που έκανε χρονομετρημένη προσπάθεια και ήταν μπροστά από τον Νόρις. Αυτός που είχε τον ταχύτερο γύρο μετά τα πρώτα περάσματα ήταν ο Ράσελ, ενώ ο Λεκλέρ ήταν στη ζώνη αποκλεισμού. Οι διαφορές ήταν πολύ μικρές με τους πρώτους 17 να τους χωρίζει μόλις μισό δευτερόλεπτο.

Στο τέλος όμως είδαμε μεγάλες αλλαγές στην κατάταξη με τον Πιάστρι να κάνει τον ταχύτερο χρόνο. Από το Q1 αποκλείστηκαν οι: Χάμιλτον, Άλμπον, Χούλκενμπεργκ, Γκασλί και Κολαπίντο.

Q2

Το 15λεπτο ξεκίνησε με τον Φερστάπεν να βγαίνει πρώτος στην πίστα, ενώ οι δύο McLaren ήταν στο γκαράζ. O Ολλανδός όπως και οι Νόρις-Πιάστρι είχαν χρησιμοποιημένο σετ μαλακής γόμας ελαστικών.

Ταχύτερος μετα τα πρώτα περάσματα ήταν ο Ράσελ και πάλι, με τον Φερστάπεν και τις δύο McLaren πίσω του. Εντυπωσιακοί ήταν οι Αλόνσο και Μπορτολέτο, ενώ ο Λεκλέρ ήταν κοντά στην επικίνδυνη ζώνη. Η μάχη με το χρονόμετρο ήταν έντονη στο τέλος της διαδικασίας με τους οδηγούς να ψάχνουν ακόμα και το παραμικρό κέρδος.

Οι ανακατατάξεις ήταν μεγάλες, με τους πρώτους 10 να τους χωρίζουν μόλις 0,304 δλ. Από τη συνέχεια αποκλείστηκαν οι: Μπέρμαν, Σάινθ, Λόσον, Αντονέλι και Στρολ.

Q3

Η μάχη για την τελευταία pole position ξεκίνησε με τους οδηγούς να βγαίνουν στην πίστα για τις πρώτες τους προσπάθειες. Ο Φερστάπεν έχοντας και τη βοήθεια του Τσονόντα που του προσέφερε slipstream στην πίσω ευθεία έγραψε το 1:22,295 και άφησε τους υπόλοιπους να τον κυνηγάνε.

Οι οδηγοί της McLaren είχαν χρησιμοποιημένο σετ και ήταν στις θέσεις 2-3 με τον Πιάστρι μπροστά από τον Νόρις, όμως πολύ μακριά από τον Φερστάπεν. Ο Ράσελ είχε λάθος στο γύρο του και ήταν 5ος.

Όλα όμως κρίθηκαν στο τέλος, με τους οδηγούς της McLaren να βγαίνουν πρώτοι στην πίστα και τον Φερστάπεν να είναι τελευταίος. Οι Νόρις και Πιάστρι δεν μπόρεσαν να νικήσουν τον Ολλανδό, με τον Βρετανό να παίρνει τη 2η θέση.

Ο Φερστάπεν όμως που ακολουθούσε, βελτίωσε το χρόνο του και πήρε μια άκρως σημαντική pole για τον αυριανό τελικό. Ο Νόρις θα ξεκινήσει 2ος και 3ος ο Πιάστρι.

Ακολούθησαν οι: Ράσελ, Λεκλέρ, Αλόνσο, Μπορτολέτο, Οκόν, Χατζάρ και Τσουνόντα.
